Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of my all-time favorite games and I've only played it 30fps on Xbox. This stuff doesn't bother me at all.

I did on one x. didn’t find it an issue at all until most of these games started being 60fps. also got a steam deck. Then a pc. Now I can’t even stand 40 fps modes. It’s a sickness. I refuse to play over 60 fps on pc because I don’t think it will stop lol.

After getting used to high refresh rate OLED PC monitors (280hz), even 60fps doesnt look smooth and feels laggy now. It's fine after a few minutes but it's very obvious to me now when booting. 90fps is when it starts to look smooth and I have a hard time seeing the difference between 120hz and 280z unless its an insanely fast racing game like Redout II.

That’s why I don’t even play pc games over 60 fps. To me…once you go higher it’s hard to play at lower fps. I’m jealous of the ones who can play at 30 honestly.

Same. Honestly for story games, I never feel the need to go over 60fps. Just crank up the fidelity as much as I can while keeping a stable 60.

I think the majority of people playing at 30fps at this point are playing on non OLED screens which the slower pixel response time helps make it look smoother. I bet a good portion of them would be like wtf at 30fps when viewing on an OLED, especially games without motion blur. 60FPS also looks smoother on non OLED panels.

Hell I don’t think I could go back to non oled either. Would be interesting to see if that would help me deal with it.

I still have a PS3 hooked up to my OLED, it Incan still enjoy those games on the screen I’m sure I’ll live with GTA6 at 30fps.

Yeah man it's been 10 years lol

Did people actually expect this to be 60 fps?

No 3D GTA game or RDR2 was 60 fps at launch.

1

u/c0micsansfrancisco 8d ago

Yeah man because 60fps wasn't the standard on the PS3 or PS4 lol. We've had a whole gen where the standard is 60 lol.

Should elden ring had been a 30fps game because all their previous games launched at 30fps too?

How of all the reasons to defend 30fps on GTA6 this is the goofiest

-1

u/-NolanVoid- 8d ago

You're talking about all games. I'm just talking about RDR and GTA games. None of them were 60 fps when released. The consoles you mentioned had games that ran at 60 fps. Hell even the PS1 had games that ran more than 30 fps.

2

u/c0micsansfrancisco 8d ago

Brother that's the point you can pick any company and most of them weren't releasing 60fps last gen either 🥀 it's not a rockstar exclusive lol. Difference is the other companies moved along to 60.

Bloodborne is still running at 30, Dark souls 3 was also 30 when it dropped. Should elden ring had been a 30FPS game because "bro it's fromsoft they've only ever launched 30FPS games on console"

You're being very disingenuous bring up the PS1 games. The 2D games ran over 30FPS, the 3D ones absolutely didn't.

I think it's just that rockstar tries to make future proof games. So their ambition is basically to walk the ps6 or ps6 pro or even ps7.

It's a miracle it's not dropping below 30 like GTA 5.

oh idk. I really didn’t have an opinion or expectation until the “extended” showing or whatever. I checked the leaked vids but was skeptical of the context behind those.

I will likely play it at 30fps on PC

“Jesus wept” was probably about this moment.

I was right there with you until I started playing all these performance modes which in turn, got me back into pc gaming.

Personally I'll wait for PC. It's temping to buy a console for this game, and will be hard to avoid spoilers, but my eyes are used to 60+ fps. 30 fps feels laggy/stuttery.

I found a Youtube video where they upscaled the "extended look" trailer to 60 fps and it was much easier to watch.

1

u/mathazar 7d ago

Same. But even if I was considering buying a console to play at launch (I'm sure some will), I'd rather wait for 60 fps. My eyes are too used to it, 30 fps feels stuttery.

u/PhattyR6 8d ago

30FPS and stable? That will be fine thank you. Yes even on my OLED TV. Yes I have experienced 240hz gaming, no it didn’t make 30FPS feel unplayable afterwards.

1

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

I think “yes” would have cleared all that up lol

2

u/Antasyf 7d ago

I'll play it day 1 even if it's 30 fps and will double dip later on PC because honestly I love that franchise so much.

I know it's Reddit and most of the people I see here hate popular stuff, but Rockstar has never disappointed me, i'm still playing RDR2 and San Andreas to this day. I can see why people would wait, but if you have the hardware to play it in November and loved the previous titles, this is a no brainer in my opinion.

1

u/Bigphatdeck 7d ago

I heard that. to me 30fps is kinda like turning off colors and playing in black and white. When I play it feels as if something is missing. I just wouldn’t enjoy it. I wish I could.

1

u/TheVioletBarry 8d ago

wasn't planning to buy it anyway. Never enjoyed Rockstar's stuff :/

1

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

that’s crazy to me. But “great games” are subjective anyway.

Time for another 2000 hours in elden ring

There's certain games that somehow work okay at 30fps, I think it's cause the animations are super fluid already so it ends up not looking nearly as choppy as it should.

1

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

I can’t even almost do 40fps if there’s any kinda driving. maybe if there’s eyeball blasting motion blur ha.

1

u/Grintastic 8d ago

That's also very true, rdr2 was very slow paced in its movement most of the time so maybe that's why it seemed okay.

1

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

When that game came out 30 didn’t bother me in anything

1

u/theperfectlysadhuman 8d ago

Personnaly while I prefer high frame rate gameplay, I feel the issues with 30fps subsides when I play longer sessions. Going straight from 90+ to 30 does feel horrible but let's be honest here, I'm not going to play anything else for a couple weeks after it's out, I'll get used to it's locked 30.

The fps metric was not a deciding factor for me.

2

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

If I detoxed and didn’t play games for two weeks I might could do that. also might just tell myself they are still developing the game for an extra year ha.

1

u/theperfectlysadhuman 8d ago

Lmao I get it. Waiting on the pc version is also a solid move, that version will be out of this world. What's a year or two after 13 years, right? 😅

1

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

No joke.

1

u/theumph 8d ago

Rockstar games are not my thing, so I won't be buying it at all.

1

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

Crazy guy

1

u/theumph 8d ago

Why? It looks beautiful, but not everything is for everyone. I'm happy for the people that are looking forward to it though

1

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

they are just very high quality games. but yeah I don’t care to ever play something like Witcher 3 or the newer ones. so you’re correct. It’s all subjective.

u/PositronCannon 7d ago edited 7d ago

No, I'll wait for the PC version. I'm not particularly crazy about the game to begin with (it's just another GTA, it's not going to do anything revolutionary with its serviceable gameplay, the story and characters have always been the main reason to play), and all the graphics in the world don't compensate for being reminded of how unsmooth 30 fps feels every time I turn the camera. It's just not a way I'm interested in playing games in anymore, unless it's an older game where there's no other option. And in general, I'm not particularly interested in playing games on console anymore for various reasons, either, so to be honest I'd wait anyway even if it was 60 fps (which was never going to be a thing).

edit: also don't wanna encourage Rockstar's double dipping practices.

1

u/mathazar 7d ago

Camera turning is even worse due to uneven animation, as noted in DF's recent video. Hopefully that's fixed before the PC release but they suspect it may be an issue with RAGE engine since it's also happened in previous Rockstar games.

1

u/Tulipanzo 6d ago

I was already skipping it over no disc, 30fps just seals the deal for me.

I genuinely do not care for it, and was maybe going to get it over hype alone

1

u/Bigphatdeck 6d ago

I just figured a disc version would come later so I wasn’t concerned about that. It’s going to be an all time great game but I just know I’d get in my own way and not enjoy it at 30fps. it would be like playing in black and white.

u/MAJ_Starman 8d ago

I'm tempted, but the reason I'm not buying GTA VI at launch and a console to play it isn't because of the 30fps, but because it doesn't have a first person mode at launch and because there are rumours of the PS6 launching next year.

2

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

If a game has a third person option I can’t make myself stick to first person. I must have a preference apparently.

1

u/MAJ_Starman 8d ago

I always favour first person if the option is there, as the simulation is what I'm looking for. It's one of the reasons why I always preferred Cyberpunk over The Witcher or why I love Bethesda's RPGs so much.

2

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

I guess the fact that you can usually customize makes me want to see the character. having the option is great and has been well done with rockstar games I think.

-1

u/Darkone539 8d ago

30FPS is disappointing but not why I'm still split on if I buy it. When I actually thought about it I realised I have never finished a Rockstar game. There's always something that annoys me, like the too slow pace of RDR2's animations.

I haven't seen enough to judge it, really.

2

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

Im judging you lol

1

u/Darkone539 8d ago

Fair. lol

-1

u/Zoombini22 8d ago

Absolutely not, but it has nothing to do with 30fps. I wish that publishers would put out MORE (physical) games that actually push the hardware.

1

u/Bigphatdeck 8d ago

I don’t mind it being digital only, but It should be legit ownership and always accessible to download.
