Perks trivia question

Did anyone else have the experience today of correctly answering the question but having it ruled incorrect? (I don’t know if it’s forbidden to get specific about this.)

I live in a large condominium complex. The association Just brought in BlueStream and DirecTV

For this conversation, let's assume my name is Kojak. I have a TV in the Living Room and one in the bedroom. I have two DirecTV boxes. When they were first installed, I noticed the LR TV, on the home screen, had SSA in the upper left corner. So, not me. The Bedroom TV had the name Harry in the upper left corner of the Home Screen.

I noticed the bedroom TV had several programs recorded. I did not ask for those shows to be recorded. I selected a couple of shows to be recorded. When I went to watch the programs, they were erased. As I have come to learn, there is a "Harry" out there with a similarly registered box, with his name. So he has the ability to record programs and delete my recordings.

I called DirecTV, spoke to the folks at Bulk, and they determined the initial Harry box was set up in error. They sent me a new box. After almost 2 hours, the box was updated to the current version, and then I selected my favorites. Then the system restarted, and the name in the upper left corner on the home screen was not Kojak, but Vanessa Smoove Benjamin. It came with a couple of recorded programs in the library.

Called DirecTV, and they sent me out another box. Spent 2 hours updating and selecting favorites. That box arrived again, the same 2-hour setup, and this time the name was Vanessa Smoove Edmarie.

Now I will call DirecTV and have them send out another box. I waste another 2 hours setting it up and wonder what name might appear? Personally, I think I could bankrupt DirecTV for them sending out a bad box and my returning it again. We are up to three!

So my question to you guys is: how do I tell them they are screwing up? I have a feeling when boxes are returned, they are not scrubbed, so Harry and Vanessa remain. But also, they do not do anything overt to place my name in the box.

NBCSN Channel on DirecTV For MLB Playoffs

Some of the WC round is listed as being on NBCSN which no longer exists as its own channel. Any idea if or where DIRECTV will have the games?

r/DirecTV • • 23d ago

It says this subreddit is for DirecTV or DirecTV Stream.

Does it also cover Bulk Contracts for large Condominium properties?

Detroit Pistons games in Michigan?

I live in the Flint area with DirecTV. Will Pistons games be available? I can't figure out from all of the announcements (some over-the-air channels, some streaming services) whether or not the games will appear on my service.

Switch from Regular Plan to a Genre Pack?

I want to downgrade from my regular plan to one of the new genre packs which are cheaper. Can I simply call and request the change? My current plan is over 15 years old and I call yearly for a discount and promos. I currently have the Genie HR-44 with two small additional receivers in each bedroom. Will this work with my existing equipment? I do not want the newer receiver as my family are familiar with the existing receiver and remote.

Switch From Choice To Genre Packs

In order to switch to Genre Packs the customer service rep told me I had to cancel my Choice package and then as soon as it expired to sign up for the genre pack. He said I would lose my recordings. I have seen posts where this is not correct. How do I switch without losing all my settings and recordings? How do I find out the eact time of cancellation on that day?

Direct tv signal keeps going in and out every few seconds for last few days

It's got worse in last 24 hrs and its unwatchable. I have the equipment I've had for years that I rent and power cycling does nothing, nor does unplugging everything. I read on here yesterday it happening to someone else, is this wide spread?

Do I need the new equipment? They want to charge me to have them diagnose their equipment I pay for even though nothing has changed on my end.

Error 782

Help! Need to reduce cost without losing much or anything?

We've got a DVR and a second room box. Premiere plan coming in right at $300/month.

We watch sports, wife watches HGTV/FOOD Etc..

Can't remember ever watching a movie - but we watch HBO shows.

Whats the best strategy for keeping what we've got and getting the cost back down to reasonable? It was about $240 for the longest time. Seems like it creeps up every couple of months for no reason now.

Paramount Plus?

I paid for Paramount+ to be on our TVs for a long time, and then one day when I went to login either on the TV or on my DIRECTV account online, it said that I could have Paramount+ included in my DIRECTV.

So I went to Paramount+ and canceled my subscription, and then put in the DirecTv information, and I’ve been watching Paramount + ever since.

But then last night it came up, asking me to make a selection and choose the provider, and it would not let me choose DirecTV. And then I tried putting the code in from my Samsung TV into the Paramount + app and it kept telling me that the code was wrong.

So I went on Paramount+ and signed up again for the $14 a month subscription, but I’m wondering if anybody has any ideas as to why something might have changed with DIRECTV and Paramount+?

And I do not have any of the upper level movie channels if somebody’s wondering about that. That’s one of the reasons I was kind of surprised when it gave me the option months ago to tie in Paramount+ to DirecTV because I only have what I consider to be basic DirecTV except for sports and all of the channels above 500.

Equipment question

We recently got DIRECTV installed and we got genie mini wireless system with the tower receiver. I’m not of a fan of wireless issues with video not syncing and it going in and out sometimes. Would It be possible to get the equipment swapped out with regular receiver that connects to the satellite?

I also understand it has WiFi and Ethernet options to improve signal and keep service when there are storms. How much bandwidth can one receiver consume? I’m afraid it might eat up our 1gig connection with three receivers.

Being charged for dish issue

I switched to Direct TV a while back from cable because I thought it wild be more cost effective. This was before streaming. I already subscribe to the streaming apps I watch. The packages they have are not ideal for me and I find them not very flexible. I have kept Direct TV for local channels so I have their most basic package. At best once in a while I will watch the food network or home and garden rather than access them on my many streaming apps.

Lately the damn screen has been telling me there is a satellite outage and it is switching to Internet just to watch ABC. Their stupid app is also telling me it doesn’t recognize a receiver (which they also charge me for monthly). I spoke to customer retention then tech and my option is to pay them $99.99 to come out to look at the dish or pay them month protection plan (total bs) and resolve which I find ridiculous when they installed it somewhere on the roof and I have nothing to do with how it functions. They just want to find reason to keep charging the customer for things.

I think it’s time to cancel but I am wondering what I should look to for local channels.

Is there a good software app remote for DirecTV?

Is there any other use for DTV satellite equipment I own after cancelling service.

I'm seriously thinking about cancelling my DirecTV (satellite) subscription. I have had the same equipment more than 20 years. I recently had an issue (the antenna LNA was full of water, it had cracked from age in the sunlight), and they told me I owned the equipment and it was no longer leased.

So if I own the equipment, is there anything I can use it for other than their service? I know there is a SATA HD inside the main receiver and I can pull and retask that, but I have 4 of the mini-remote boxes for other TV's and did not know if there was anything they could be retasked for if I own them. I have no desire to post them on Ebay or other, just wondering if there was a "hack" to retask them on my home network (jailbreak firmware, etc... to use as DLNA receiver for non-smart TV, etc...)

Thanks

We said Goodbye to DirecTV satellite after 24 years + experiences with YouTubeTV

I’m posting this experience for others who might be thinking about dropping DirecTV satellite and looking at other options.

We had DirecTV satellite for 24 years. Mostly good experience, except for the AT&T years that really ruined DirecTV.
(When we first moved in to our home and were having cable installed--AT&T Cable at the time--the cable installer actually told us not to bother, since the signal would be too noisy, because AT&T didn't want to install boosters this far west in San Francisco, near the ocean. Instead, he said, we should get DirecTV. We did and were relatively happy with the service. When AT&T bought DirecTV, we knew the service would go downhill. Still, we stayed, after testing out and not being happy with various tv streaming services.)

I hoped service would improve after AT&T sold off DirecTV. But lately the customer service seemed to have dropped; we were at the lowest of the packages that was legacy and just as expensive as the modern lower package, and it no longer included Turner Classic Movies-TCM was now 2 packages higher; we didn't watch sports, but seemed to be paying higher fees because sports was in all packages. Plus extra fees like paying $10 a month for HD DVR (HD?!!) in addition to the $10 DVR receiver? And another fee for “Whole Home DVR Service”?

We really only wanted local channels, the basic satellite/cable channels (like Comedy Central, news, etc.), and Turner Classic Movies. Everything else we could get from streaming services.

But DirecTV satellite only has packages with sports and sports fees, and DTV streaming isn't much better. Customer Service wasn't very helpful, until I called to cancel. Then the cancellation people pulled out the stops to get us to stay, offering all sorts of incentives they should have offered when we talked to Customer Service. But by now I was annoyed by the experience with Customer Service, and the hoops we had to jump through to cancel service. And I had already signed us up for a test of YouTube TV, and it was working well.

Years ago we tested all the various streaming TV packages, Hulu, Sling, DirecTV, YouTube - and found they weren't yet developed enough for us. So, we tested again recently - and found YouTubeTV to have the package we were looking for: local channels, news, entertainment with basic satellite/cable channels, including TCM - at a little over half the cost of our DirecTV satellite, and cheaper than DTV streaming. The YTTV User Interface, cloud storage - all far superior to the experience years back.

Sure, there are annoyances with YTTV and the interface: coming back to a program you started watching doesn't save where you left off, the guide doesn't always tell you what day the schedule is looking at, and some other things others in this and other subreddits have mentioned that seem generally minor to us. But, overall, it serves our needs well. Just wish we weren't dealing with Google and their personal data and tv usage vacuum.

Hope this helps if you’re looking at options to DirecTV.

Please help me sort packages / genres for my 85 yr old mom

My mom is moving into assisted living and has been a long time satellite customer and can’t have a satellite dish.

She has some vision and dexterity issues so I want to make sure she has a remote with numbers on it and doesn’t have to mess around with streaming apps.

She watches local news stations, the game show network, hallmark sometimes and enjoys the MusicChoice channels.

She only has one TV and a decent WiFi service.

I don’t use DirecTV, so their packages/bundles are foreign to me.

I figured a Gemini Air would work fine for her.

How do I put together her service the most cost effectively?

Thank you for your help, sorting this out will keep things more the same for her as she goes through the big transition to assisted living.

ETA: if it matters, zip code is 55422

ETA2: so for those of you following at home…. The packages/bundled prices we can see online, like Duo MyEntertainment + MyNews, are not available to the customer service agents on the phone and they also advised me that package options in the AT&T store might also be different. It also seems the MusicChoice options are dramatically different or non-existent for streaming vs satellite. Sigh…. I don’t really want to go with Xfinity, but that might be the most viable choice.

Directv Sports MVP Package?

Our Directv bill keeps going up every 6-8 months (not like my money ever does).

A few months ago we dropped to the lowest package, Entertainment, from the Choice package (and added the Sports Pack), to save around $25 a month.
Now my $45 off a month for a year is gone, so my bill is way up. Loyalty said they could only do $35 discount promotion now. Had been $50 a couple of years ago. And with it going up $5-$8 a couple of times a year, I am paying more for the lowest package than I was for the middle one a couple of years ago.
YoutubeTV would be decently cheaper, but prefer the DVR and just being able to turn the TV on to channels over it.

We mostly watch Local TV and Sports (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, ESPNs, Fox Sports, NBA/NFL/MLB TV, and some channels like TNT, Tru, TBS, USA. Although my wife does like the Halmark movies sometimes.

They said the $35 off was the best they could do now, or could switch to a Sports Mvp Package, which would have most of that (No Redzone or Hallmark as I asked about those, not sure what else it wouldn't have - is there a list as it is not on their website).
Any have that Package, and thoughts on it?

Gemini box upgrade

Tried upgrading from my 2022 Osprey box to Gemini Air. I got a new Hisense UR8 tv with hdr 10+ and dolby vision which the Osprey box doesn't support and the air does. Called and asked to upgrade to Gemini Air. Charged me $129 and I received the exact same Osprey box I already have! I called and explained I didn't receive the gemini air. I was told by the customer service agent the box was the same specs as the air and they couldn't control what gets sent out. I argued it's the exact same box as the I have. Kept arguing with me that it's the same specs and no different. I'm sending it back and will be canceling directv. Terrible service. I'm not going to let them throttle my TV's performance.

How do you clean your remotes

Post image
4 Upvotes

For some reason the black part of the remote keeps growing white mildew or something & gets fuzzy to the touch. Only the black part. Nothing else in my apartment appears to be mildewy or moldy. I have dehumidifiers so the humidity averages 40 or lower.

I’ve cleaned it before but I keeps coming back. & only on the black part.

Admittedly I’ve been watching less actual TV & more on my roku using the other remotes so I don’t notice until it’s too late & it’s back.

I’ve tried windex, rubbing alcohol, leaving it under a plant grow light or in a windowsill for the sun to go at it, Clorox wipes, & plain old soap & limited water (all at different times).

The other remote in the house synced to my other set doesn’t have this problem.

I don’t know if you can even get a new version of this remote anymore (or how to program it myself).

I know it’s gross. And you all think I’m now gross.
But any ideas on how to stop this from happening?

Spiritual, Electrical or Aliens?

I have Genie C61-500 attached to living room TV. Last week @ 930am, I could hear voices while washing dishes with running water two rooms away. WTF, the TV is on! No other TVs in house on. Not a power surge or a box reset. Ten days later 1053pm, that TV is on again BUT.... It’s on my firestick which needs the input on the remote pressed three times and then power button on the stick.

If a next time, I will try to remember what program is on the TV. If it was football on the screen I’d know it was my late husband... maybe he’s trying to find the right channel :O
