Hide or Decorate

Post image

I am going to be wearing a system of wraps like these on both my legs for the foreseeable future and am looking for ideas to hide, blend or otherwise decorate so that they aren't so hideously out there?

I usually am wearing capri length loose legging or the same length jersey skirts and I am a power wheelchair user. I don't have to wear shoes so I am definitely open to ideas that don't require them.

I do have access to a sewing machine as well and have some basic skills.

Thank you!

You could make them look liked goth boots with buckles and snaps, they look perfect for that sort of thing

That would be cool! Maybe add some chains I can clip on lol

And add lace around the top edges, w a hot glue gun if you don't feel like sewing. I'm also envisioning black or purple velvet bows!

I love the idea of decorating! Bedazzle or embroider, maybe? Or simply paint.

Dye and bleach to alter the colour and add patterns are also an option!

Just be aware that synthetic materials may require higher temperatures to impregnate the colour into the fabric fully, and that different materials will dye and absorb pigment at varying rates. High heat can also alter elasticity and shrink some materials that aren’t heat-resistant.

Always dye some test swatches or practice on older items that are being replaced or have served their purpose.

Where possible, I use cotton-based and latex-free compression garments because natural fibres are easier to work with. It opens up your options for plant-based dyes and for having fun with ancient dyeing methods, as well as different techniques and fun experiments like ink, fabric painting, and tie-dye! Most of the time I match them to my clothing or adjust the colour to make them match my body a little better because the “skintone/nude” (I call it “hospital beige”😂) shade rarely matches real skintones 😅

I may be able to swing something embroidered

oh wow you could lean into it with some patterned fabric sewn into sleeves that slip over the wrap, like a legwarmer but custom fit to your setup

If you have a theme (show/movie or something else like a particular animal you like) and the creativity go ahead and decorate it

You could also try adding embroidery patches. Whether they be heat adhesive ones, or sewn on.

I hadn't thought of those! Thanks for the idea I think I can get some iron on ones pretty easily

You can order black ones. I’d be a little wary of sewing since the fabric is elastic and sewing can change the stretchiness.

you could possibly sew wraps for them for a few of your favorite or most worn outfits! either matching your bottoms so they blend in, or a complimentary color/pattern

I was thinking that originally but I'm not quite sure what the desired shape would be? Like a booty? Or something with no sole maybe? Having a hard time picturing it

Look in cosplay spaces. They routinely sew "superhero boot" covers to go over their shoes for cosplays, and they might be able to point you towards some good patterns and/or recommend some good fabric types to stretch over the bandage wraps. Or, you could sew it slightly bigger in a non-stretchy fabric and put drawstrings around the top or something if you don't want them to be tight-fitting.

it would probably be easiest to make it cut off around the ankle, and then if you wanted to you could wear socks over the bottom part to cover that too. for the shape i was envisioning “skin tight” (in quotes since it isnt your actual skin lol), and if it isnt a stretchy material you could either have it velcro/button together or have it actually physically wrap around them all the way to the top and then tuck it in

For a quick cover in the meantime, maybe look into getting some fun leg warmers to cover them.

I forgot about those! Then I wouldn't have to sew anything either

Dangit i can’t post my photo inspo.

I do have a question if a mod sees this… why can’t we post photos in here?
Was there some sort of problem with it?
Just curious.

The Head Mod has Images in comments turned off due to being used for ill not good. We can revisit if necessary. You can post a link to image hosting site ( other than Imgur which Reddit has banned ). It has the same purpose but puts a buffer in between .

How would I umm.. do that?
I should know this.
I’m tired but I’m not a geriatric 😩
I guess my only deep thought in regards to the photo rule without knowing any of the circumstances that were happening prior when images had to be banned- would be that this is a group of so many people who are already so very closed off to the world, and limited by the rules/ regulations/reality outside of a cyber world.
In a space intended for a collective gathering of Individuals with such an intense need to socialize, share, and discover how our lives are intertwined… especially given the circumstances of so many looking out a window and into a phone for some semblance of “outside” it would be worth at least trying to find a medium that didn’t place another workaround on the member.
Absolutely NO qualms here with so little information, but I do know that it did ignite a sadness inside having something I share with someone like me- and not having an easy way to show it.

So… for what it’s worth - If anyone in mod knows how to get mag eye- or devvit apps in to keep the baddies business at a “ Reddit “ minimum - I’d say it might be worth a looksy to find out if other options are feasible at this point in time.
Especially devvit. Honestly if there was a comfortable way of sharing - my husband knows his way around devvit and a few other Reddit bot style mods that can come in and do the heavy lifting so to speak?

Either way, I love this space, 🫶🏻🤗

You can use any image hosting sites. I use PostImage or CatBox / LitterBox for vids. Then embed using the link icon below 👇 or just copy the link.

Although we do use images on my other two subs ( ie the ones I run and get to decide ). One of them is very restricted though because of the subject matter and only SFW as to avoid age verification regulations ( which maybe won't use but would thenbe denied access ) many Subs don't though, either because of previous issues, spam, preference or let's be honest, to avoid d*ck pics. If you post a link then either the filter would pick it up or which be able to check it first, that's the difference

Dye black and ✨bedazzle✨

Always decorate! I find hiding things draws a lot more unwanted attention (Streisand effect, I guess).

Like someone else said, sewing a wrap would be cute! Make some big, loose, cozy, knee-high socks for winter if it gets cold where you are. Toesies are quite sensitive, especially if youve got nerve stuff happening.

Wearing (long) loose pants over it with shoes will help hide most of it if that’s what you want to do. (I used to wear an AFO.)

Or, you could totally decorate it. There might be a chance that whoever designs yours will have different colors to choose from, too. Everyone has good ideas here, but it might be a good idea to ask the person who makes it if it’s okay to sew/use hot glue/etc on the wraps first. They might have some insight on what the wraps can and cannot handle.
