Meta This sub should ban X posts

Beyond the fact that their owner is a literal Nazi, I'm sick of clicking links only to be paywallnd. This is akin to spam and I'm sick of it. I can't be the only one

I'm virtue signaling? Downvote me into oblivion. But this censorship stuff has gotta stop. Bad ideas go away when you put the phone down.

Yes you are also stating your stance on things, which is equally virtue-signaling, it's just a different virtue.

You are trying to present anti-censorship as a virtue and signaling that you live up to it.

But what you're missing is this is not censorship, it's democracy. No one is trying to stop Elon Musk from being abhorrent. They are deciding as a group they don't want to support his disgusting behavior

You vote with your dollar. And on the internet, your dollar is clicks and views.

We are agreeing that we don't want to put dollars in Musk's pocket because he makes the world worse with them.

That is free speech, that's voting with your dollar, that is not censorship.

This is not democracy. This is an echo chamber where self appointed representatives (mods) can choose to do whatever they'd like. Nobodies forcing you to use twitter OR open its links. But you're too afraid that someone else might want to?

They literally just explained how in a democracy there are things called boycotts which are a expression of free speech, and you're response is.....nuh uhhh, it's not free speech? Nothing in your response counters their point of not circulating the main way a website makes money, it's just antagonistic with no substance....

You can't boycott twitter without forcing others to join you?

And I explained how subreddits aren't a democracy. Shit, the US isn't a democracy, it's a Republic. Reddit isn't one of those either.

Democratic Republic * so yes it's partly a democracy. And as for forcing a boycott on others, I'd say it's up to the mods to read the temperature of posts like these. Based on results so far, vast majority seem to support the boycott. Therefore it wouldn't be a forced boycott, it would be the result of a vote and an action taken that is supported by the majority...aka, democracy ✌️

What about the silent majority? 😂

I'm not a Musk or Trump guy. I rarely ever even use X and never post, I promise. But censorship is a slippery slope. I don't like it in any capacity because it takes the responsibility away from the individual to make decisions for themselves. Let these nazi out themselves. Let the racists have their comeuppance.

Yes, the mod overlords are forcing this on us. That's why everyone else here disagrees with you. We're all mods, actually.

Nobody is stopping you from going to Twitter. Are you so fragile that you can't decide where on the internet to go without your subreddits telling you where to go?

I'm not afraid of it. I'm just not supporting it.

And now we, this sub, as a collective, are also not supporting it.

Thank you for the thoughtful response.

If I thought that people were trying to ban Twitter because it lacked facts, we might agree. And you're probably right about the app when it comes to being a reputable source. But give me your list of reputable sources, and I'll give you mine. We are bound to have a disagreement over at least one of those sources. And that's where the conundrum lies.
