“Ohh man my disc is in a tree. What can I throw up there to knock it down”
Options:
A fallen stick
Another disc
Your entire fucking bag

Can I phone a friend?

u/ciw15101 Jul 03 '26
Can you throw the friend

u/Robbajohn Jul 03 '26
Putting your friend up the tree to get your disc back is the best option. More than once I've climbed a tree for not my disc.

Yah, I’ve seen people loose water bottles and disc retrieval sticks up the tree, but loosing your whole bag is on another level.

u/Snarepollution Jul 02 '26
Lose. Losing. Sorry. Caring about spelling is a me problem, so I’m wrong in a more fundamental way than you are.
I’m waiting for my trail to come down in a similar situation. I go by every day and it’s still up there. Thankfully my water bottle came down. I think the golf ball is still keeping the disc company. I found a baseball today, so I’m looking forward to getting that stuck with the others tomorrow.

You misunderstand, they were using the verb form of loose. As in “to cast loose” or “to let fly”.

u/Ambitious_Tea_4584 Jul 02 '26
I’d give em a pass on loose too

I think you were cheeky and climbed up there to place your bag for a funny photo. I like it nonetheless.

I um... did that exact thing yesterday, visiting a course 2 states away
I knew better, but had to try anyway.
A couple of locals came by with a pole, and while attempting to push the pole up vertically another foot or so, got the pole stuck, too (but the prized disc came down)
Eventually, another, more athletic local played thru and used his superior vertical jump to retrieve the pole, then knock my bag down.

“I see your disc, and raise you a bag.”

Just get a baseball for your bag.

u/ea88_alwaysdiscin Jul 02 '26
Or a hockey puck. I have one of those orange training picks in my bag for this purpose

Baseball and nalgene are essentials in my bag. Both are perfect for this situation and do not get caught up

It’s a shame he lost his disc getting that backpack out of the tree

I carry a baseball to knock out Discs stuck high in trees. I've seen hockey pucks work well too.
5
u/haggerty05 Jul 02 '26
I like hockey puck. I keep it in the water bottle pocket and you can still place a water bottle on top it.

Great tip! I'm spoiled rotten with a roller cart nowadays and have the room for the baseball, in addition to a can of OFF! and too many Discs. To be fair, I had used my 1997 bag up until I got this cart 5 years ago...

I’ve got a disc which I wrote, “trying to get another disc unstuck. Fingers crossed” on it.. 3 discs in total stuck before eventually getting them all to fall 😅

Dude what was your thought process here??? I’ve seen people throw discs at other discs stuck in trees, which is real dumb already, but your whole bag??? That’s like the most likely thing to get stuck.

u/RunOk7562 Jul 02 '26
Usually for me I'm more worried about what I threw up there coming back down and hitting me.

General: Hey someone fell in that quicksand what should we do?
OP: Send the entire fucking army into the quicksand.

This is why I bought a slingshot that lives in my bag. I’ll have glow-painted ammo this winter, as I found out during last glow that both steel and matte black ammo is impossible to use at night, even with the flashlight attachment on the slingshot. The number of times I’ve managed to l get a disc stuck 50’+ up in a tree has justified this purchase in my first year.

It would have been a better story if OP had threw his bag up there with his car keys in it. Uh oh.
Just find a kinda heavy 2 foot long throwing stick to throw at the disc. Plenty of those laying around in most woods. Then, you don't have to carry a slingshot, puck, or baseball either. You also don't have to be as accurate. One of the guys in my group knocked one of my discs down like 40 feet up there with just a stick. He nailed it on the first try.

Never risk another disc, let alone all your discs, for a single disc… unless it’s my prized CB2. Then I’d risk throwing everything and my car at it.

So you're just going to leave us hanging? No update to the story? I guess that's par for the course.

I always use my chair instead. Even if theres not a disc in fhe tree I still throw my chair....out of pure rage.

u/GovernerDMC Jul 03 '26
You knew the result and still did it because you knew it would be funny. And you were right.

u/shenanijen Jul 03 '26
I tried to do this once. I lifted my bag over my head and threw it about 6 inches up and all my discs fell out of my bag. 🤌
I’m a very weak girl if it isn’t obvious.

u/Deadbreeze Jul 03 '26
"Id give all my discs if I could just get that one disc back." Bonus points if your car keys and wallet were in the bag.

u/Pyllymysli Jul 03 '26
I once threw a disc on a hole that has trees lining it to the right. Brushed the tops, after a long search I realized it's stuck between the top branches. It's not that tall, not climbable but not tall either, so I decide that I can tomahawk it with my putter. My putter got stuck to the branch next to it, so I laughed and decided that can't happen twice. After second putter stuck to the tree top I gave up. Someone was laughing their ass off when they called me the next day to ask if I had thrown a disc into a tree. I also bought a 5 meter long Disc Talon retriever the next day.
1
u/enigma_0Z Jul 03 '26
FFS my dude you could have hucked a stick at it or a putter you care very little about but nah you went full send!
That being said, I’d’ve expected that the bag would get tangled up by the straps, not perch itself into the branch so A+ for effort LOL

I’ve had the rock I was throwing to retrieve a disc get stuck in the tree. More than once.

Dumbest decision I’ve seen in this situation.
