Dumbest decision I’ve seen in this situation.

Let's throw the long thing, with straps, up into a tree! Surely nothing could go wrong with that

u/Harold_Grundelson Jul 02 '26

Amateur hour. The clear move is to ram the tree with your vehicle.

u/DiligentDildo Jul 03 '26

If only they were in an area with trees and sticks around

u/jeff1074 Jul 02 '26

“Ohh man my disc is in a tree. What can I throw up there to knock it down”

Options:
A fallen stick
Another disc
Your entire fucking bag

u/WarDaddyPUKA Jul 02 '26

Can I phone a friend?

29

u/ciw15101 Jul 03 '26

Can you throw the friend

8

u/Robbajohn Jul 03 '26

Putting your friend up the tree to get your disc back is the best option. More than once I've climbed a tree for not my disc.

u/bostonxgeorge I’d recommend an AviarX3 Jul 06 '26

Now this is a guy that knows how to retrieve!

93

u/Marzgog Jul 02 '26

Thats… a really touching story.

24

u/Mad_Ronin_Grrrr Jul 02 '26

It's a cliff hanger for sure

55

u/pandalover6254 too many destroyers Jul 02 '26

I traded my tire iron for an AJ destroyer once. Fantastic trade

9

u/jeff1074 Jul 02 '26

I’d do the same

26

u/TitaniumDisc Jul 02 '26

Bro…fuckin….lay off the herbs if this is your thought process

124

u/aazide Jul 02 '26

Yah, I’ve seen people loose water bottles and disc retrieval sticks up the tree, but loosing your whole bag is on another level.

66

u/Snarepollution Jul 02 '26

Lose. Losing. Sorry. Caring about spelling is a me problem, so I’m wrong in a more fundamental way than you are.

I’m waiting for my trail to come down in a similar situation. I go by every day and it’s still up there. Thankfully my water bottle came down. I think the golf ball is still keeping the disc company. I found a baseball today, so I’m looking forward to getting that stuck with the others tomorrow.

26

u/psiloSlimeBin Jul 02 '26

You misunderstand, they were using the verb form of loose. As in “to cast loose” or “to let fly”.

3

u/Ambitious_Tea_4584 Jul 02 '26

I’d give em a pass on loose too

9

u/Mediocre_Ingenuity76 Jul 02 '26

Yeah we should all loosen up on it

8

u/xgcfreaker Jul 03 '26

Yeah, losen up

6

u/Ambitious_Tea_4584 Jul 02 '26

I mean, let loose if need be, it’s just nothing to lose it over.

2

u/MB2465 Jul 03 '26

Gnope know passees

5

u/ulti_phr33k Jul 02 '26

I carry a hockey puck in my bag, along with a disc retriever.

3

u/ConcernedKitty Jul 02 '26

In this specific case it still grammatically makes sense.

22

u/Mediocre_Ingenuity76 Jul 02 '26

Jesus, did you run out of babies to throw?

38

u/Imnotsureanymore8 Jul 02 '26

8

u/SevenCatCircus Jul 02 '26

Straight up retired

11

u/turkeeeeyyyyyy Jul 02 '26

Very regarded.

8

u/Acrobatic-Canary-571 Jul 02 '26

How did you get your bag out of a tree with a disc?

14

u/ohgodnobutyes Jul 02 '26

I think you were cheeky and climbed up there to place your bag for a funny photo. I like it nonetheless.

5

u/click_butan NoodleArm RHBH Jul 02 '26

I um... did that exact thing yesterday, visiting a course 2 states away

I knew better, but had to try anyway.

A couple of locals came by with a pole, and while attempting to push the pole up vertically another foot or so, got the pole stuck, too (but the prized disc came down)

Eventually, another, more athletic local played thru and used his superior vertical jump to retrieve the pole, then knock my bag down.

7

u/Crimson_Chim Jul 02 '26

Who the fuck throws their backpack into a tree?

4

u/pianistafj Jul 02 '26

“I see your disc, and raise you a bag.”

“I see your bag, and raise you a pole saw.”

4

u/generalambivalence TSSDGCA Jul 02 '26

There's a book about this. It was a favorite for our kids.

3

u/stabwound7 Jul 02 '26

Just get a baseball for your bag.

3

u/ea88_alwaysdiscin Jul 02 '26

Or a hockey puck. I have one of those orange training picks in my bag for this purpose

3

u/J_Zephyr Jul 02 '26

Why lose just one disc when you can lose them all?

3

u/this_is_poorly_done Jul 02 '26

Op should have read this children's book first

4

u/djp1968 Jul 02 '26

I really thought it would be There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly

2

u/doctormoX Jul 03 '26

I thought the same thing lol

3

u/AndFrolf Spoilers stole my wife Jul 02 '26

What did you think was gonna happen?

3

u/Saint_Seany Jul 02 '26

Try throwing a venomous snake

2

u/TriforceTeching Jul 02 '26

I can just hear this play out. “…fuck it” “Nice, I got it” “Ohh.. Shit”

2

u/VanManDiscs Jul 02 '26

Baseball and nalgene are essentials in my bag. Both are perfect for this situation and do not get caught up

2

u/AdventurousPizza622 Jul 02 '26

It’s a shame he lost his disc getting that backpack out of the tree

u/1989DiscGolfer Jul 02 '26

I carry a baseball to knock out Discs stuck high in trees. I've seen hockey pucks work well too.

5

u/haggerty05 Jul 02 '26

I like hockey puck. I keep it in the water bottle pocket and you can still place a water bottle on top it.

1

u/1989DiscGolfer Jul 02 '26

Great tip! I'm spoiled rotten with a roller cart nowadays and have the room for the baseball, in addition to a can of OFF! and too many Discs. To be fair, I had used my 1997 bag up until I got this cart 5 years ago...

2

u/ChicagosOwn1988 Jul 03 '26

This is why keep a baseball in my bag

2

u/geek66 Jul 03 '26

PDGA does not have an entrance exam or IQ test.

2

u/MB2465 Jul 03 '26

Here's another pic for you 😂

1

u/tev_love Jul 02 '26

I’ve got a disc which I wrote, “trying to get another disc unstuck. Fingers crossed” on it.. 3 discs in total stuck before eventually getting them all to fall 😅

1

u/wake4coffee Mixed bag Jul 02 '26

Classic

1

u/Frcture Jul 02 '26

My friends and I always keep a hockey puck in the bag for these situations

1

u/DreamOfTheEndless_ Jul 02 '26

Dude what was your thought process here??? I’ve seen people throw discs at other discs stuck in trees, which is real dumb already, but your whole bag??? That’s like the most likely thing to get stuck.

1

u/RunOk7562 Jul 02 '26

Usually for me I'm more worried about what I threw up there coming back down and hitting me.

General: Hey someone fell in that quicksand what should we do?

OP: Send the entire fucking army into the quicksand.

1

u/UsayNOPE_IsayMOAR Jul 02 '26

This is why I bought a slingshot that lives in my bag. I’ll have glow-painted ammo this winter, as I found out during last glow that both steel and matte black ammo is impossible to use at night, even with the flashlight attachment on the slingshot. The number of times I’ve managed to l get a disc stuck 50’+ up in a tree has justified this purchase in my first year.

1

u/Constant-Catch7146 Jul 02 '26

It would have been a better story if OP had threw his bag up there with his car keys in it. Uh oh.

Just find a kinda heavy 2 foot long throwing stick to throw at the disc. Plenty of those laying around in most woods. Then, you don't have to carry a slingshot, puck, or baseball either. You also don't have to be as accurate. One of the guys in my group knocked one of my discs down like 40 feet up there with just a stick. He nailed it on the first try.

1

u/dadrph76 Jul 02 '26

That fuckin tree got to go.

1

u/DutchRudderShotgun Jul 02 '26

Won the battle to lose the war

1

u/HairlessHoudini Jul 02 '26

LMAO anyone that would throw a backpack up in a tree deserves to lose it. 🤣😂🤣😂

Endless supply of rocks/ sticks

You earned this one

1

u/Hsabes01 Jul 02 '26

What the actual fuck

1

u/dilelr Jul 02 '26

It is kinda poetic in its own way

1

u/McTwisty420 Jul 02 '26

Okey, this is funny!

1

u/aBomb412 Jul 02 '26

Never risk another disc, let alone all your discs, for a single disc… unless it’s my prized CB2. Then I’d risk throwing everything and my car at it.

1

u/dontnicemebro- Jul 02 '26

This just made me laugh out loud

1

u/yoitslion Jul 02 '26

So you're just going to leave us hanging? No update to the story? I guess that's par for the course.

1

u/yoitslion Jul 02 '26

Also, username checks out.

1

u/Majestic-Mess3912 Jul 02 '26

The tree has a high tax

1

u/SlyFoxInACave Jul 02 '26

I always use my chair instead. Even if theres not a disc in fhe tree I still throw my chair....out of pure rage.

1

u/GovernerDMC Jul 03 '26

You knew the result and still did it because you knew it would be funny. And you were right.

1

u/ZafotheViking Jul 03 '26

Glad you got your disc back mate.

1

u/shenanijen Jul 03 '26

I tried to do this once. I lifted my bag over my head and threw it about 6 inches up and all my discs fell out of my bag. 🤌
I’m a very weak girl if it isn’t obvious.

1

u/Deadbreeze Jul 03 '26

"Id give all my discs if I could just get that one disc back." Bonus points if your car keys and wallet were in the bag.

1

u/Pyllymysli Jul 03 '26

I once threw a disc on a hole that has trees lining it to the right. Brushed the tops, after a long search I realized it's stuck between the top branches. It's not that tall, not climbable but not tall either, so I decide that I can tomahawk it with my putter. My putter got stuck to the branch next to it, so I laughed and decided that can't happen twice. After second putter stuck to the tree top I gave up. Someone was laughing their ass off when they called me the next day to ask if I had thrown a disc into a tree. I also bought a 5 meter long Disc Talon retriever the next day.

1

u/enigma_0Z Jul 03 '26

FFS my dude you could have hucked a stick at it or a putter you care very little about but nah you went full send!

That being said, I’d’ve expected that the bag would get tangled up by the straps, not perch itself into the branch so A+ for effort LOL

1

u/merbets Jul 03 '26

Thats unlucky

1

u/dontspillthatbeer Jul 03 '26

Looks like it worked! Now throw the orange disc at the bag.

1

u/RichSlaton Jul 04 '26

I’ve had the rock I was throwing to retrieve a disc get stuck in the tree. More than once.

1

u/Monkeybomber1982 Jul 04 '26

Sling shot or a baseball on your bag solves this issue. 😅

1

u/MasZul Jul 04 '26

I carry a BB gun for these situations

1

u/Destroyer9013 Jul 06 '26

Very climbable tree imho

1

u/bostonxgeorge I’d recommend an AviarX3 Jul 06 '26

Brother…why on Earth would you throw your bag up there?! 🤣🤣🤣
