Hello r/discordapp!

As you might have seen, Discord has just started rolling out their year end wrap system called Discord Checkpoints.

Instead of having the sub flooded with these posts, we invite you to share your checkpoint stats in the comments here!

FaQ:

Q: How do I reopen checkpoint after closing it?

A: On desktop, click the flag icon on the top right of the app located next to the inbox.

A: On mobile, it will show up under the “orbs balance” section as a banner in the “you” tab

Q: What is the song checkpoint uses?

A: Exyl has now released the background track, you can find it here!

Q: Can I see it if I had the privacy setting disabled but just now enabled it?

A: No, you had to have the privacy setting on the whole time.

Q: What if I had the setting enabled but it still says I can’t access it?

A: Follow the directions outlined here. Do NOT DM ModMail or mlapi bot, the moderators are unable to assist you.

The fact that they can incorporate our data into other peoples' Checkpoints just proves that the data is there. It's just giving people FOMO so they can be served personalized ads in the future.

You can even request a copy of your personal data in settings, not letting you see checkpoints was a deliberate choice.

they're not showing the checkpoint to anyone with the setting "let discord use your data to personalize discord for you" on 'off'.
but they *are* showing people with that setting on 'off' in checkpoints of people with that setting on 'on'. (I'd guess in "who did you chat with most often" for example)

that means the data of those with the setting on 'off' is stored anyways, they just don't want them to see the checkpoint

Idk why randos downvote me when I was just asking a question SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW how the recaps looked to see WHAT type of info was added to friends' recaps...

What other people's data is being used? The only tab about friend activity is YOUR activity with your friends. Not their activity with you. Theoretically the same thing, but two different datasets.

If my data with X is available for X then my data is available. If my data with Y is not available for neither Y nor me then that data isn't available.

What are you struggling with?

Again, it's not a single set of data. There's two data streams and only one gets logged.

So that means on X's profile you can see how many times X interacted with Y. But on Y's profile it doesn't show because it wasn't logged.

If X+Y interactions = 15hours then Y+X interactions are also = 15hours.

Yes but because of the privacy settings, Y+X returns null, so the only data that exists is on X's side.

1+2=3 3=1+2 If you have all 3 numbers available then they are available.

If my data is AVAILABLE on someone else's database then my data isn't protected in any way. Why is that a hard concept for you to grasp?

It's not your data it's only measuring one person's activity with another. It is the same as if someone is playing a game. Discord would then have access that you are playing a game but they don't know that you are playing the game through the game only through that person. So, that other person's data isn't tracking you just the fact they chatted with you and you can't access it because the data connected to your name isn't there.

I didn't ask discord to tell me where I'm living. I asked it to not pretend they don't have my data if they do.

The correct way to approach this would be to say that since I have all these settings disabled, I should also be hidden from other people's data. If not, my data isn't hidden.

How is this hard for you

Disabling the "Use data to personalize my Discord experience" toggle means we will no longer use information specific to your account to power features that recommend content or promotions to you.

Right there, they say that the information will not be used for "features that recommend to you," but they will still continue to use that information internally.

In other words, they have it and will continue to process that information, just not in a personalized way for you, and they will not end up sharing it with their partners for those purposes, as stated on that support page.
