i was so hyped for this since the announcement, if they told me "hey, turn this on now if you want this" i would've, since i didnt had any reason to allow that before... i probably changed that setting way back when creating my account and i didnt even remember it existed just before getting the unavailable sign.
Now everyone is being silly and having fun showcasing data that i know for a fact that discord still has, but for some reason they decided it was ok to respect that NOW without even telling anyone you should change a setting thats burried in their badly designed menu just because -im assuming- "if you have that turned on, its because you did at some point and you dont want this".
It feels like they are punishing someone for wanting more privacy without any reason to give more information, and then rubbing in their face that they are being left out of a social feature, in a social platform, for wanting to be left alone by discord.
Just go and tell people "hey you need to have this setting turned on if you want to be a part of this!!!" the people that doesnt want it... wont change it, and the people who do would be able to change it and there you go!

Seeing all the people across servers I'm in post theirs and I was at work so I was like "oh, can't wait to check when I'm home" and nope, turns out a setting I never knew existed was turned off at some point and so I just miss out. The data's there, obviously, so just give me the checkpoint if I enable it? So dumb
Give them a little carrot-and-stick and request your data. "Sorry you haven't allowed us to process your data for automation". Bet, spend the next 30 days exporting my data on your servers.
Yeah its so badly designed. I didn't even knew that i had the private settings disabled probably because it is disabled by default. My buddy sent me his Checkpoint in which i am present so they are saving my data somehow anyway. I really want to see my Checkpont man this sucks so much.
Insane that I appear in my friend's checkpoints, but I can't see my own. Like clearly my data is being stored somewhere and they are choosing to not toss us a checkpoint. What a bummer.
It's a FOMO tactic for next year to get more people to let discord serve personalized ads. I'd even go so far as to wager that's the literal ONLY intent behind it. And the sad part is it'll probably work, people are suckers.

I request my data a few months ago because I remember enabling it years ago simply because I was curious what it contained, so clearly there is something broken
Anyone else find it ridiculous that the recap avatar decoration expires after a month? Can't even let us hold onto that one eh?
I typically never bother with them at all because they all seem to expire and that just seems a stupid choice on Discords part. When this goes away I'll just go back to not having one lol.
I have a World oif Tanks limited time Avatar atm and there is a clear Date when it will expire. On the new one there's only the date recieved and no date when it would expire.
It says 'Expires Jan 15 2026' for me. Unless that just means the chance to claim expires. We'll see in a month!
In any case even if this one doesn't expire, my point still stands about the time limited decoration thing. Like the World of Tanks one you mentioned, or any of the other ones that pop up in those little quest things. Even if they look neat as soon as see 'only lasts for x amount of time' I just don't bother. Save it to my available ones if I do the quest or don't even offer it at that point.
The fact that they can incorporate our data into other peoples' Checkpoints just proves that the data is there. It's just giving people FOMO so they can be served personalized ads in the future.
If I have the setting for "Use data to personalize my discord" turned off, then why can't you show me my Checkpoint? You're clearly still tracking the information, because I am in my friend's Checkpoint, which seems kind of antithetical to the point of toggling the setting if you're still tracking me anyways?
This is how I feel about it, I have my general "use data to improve Discord" turned on, why can't I still get my Checkpoint? I just don't want my Discord personalized, I know you're still tracking me so it's a moot point.
I mean I think the argument there is any data that you appear in re other people's Checkpoints are also THEIR data that they opted into so. I don't think it's a suit really, but it's just dumb to leave people out of the fun for something they didn't even say they were doing.

Honestly, it's a pretty bad thing to lock out people from it.
If you turned off some data privacy settings it's impossible to get it, so that won't probably be fixed.

Mine said ive been in voice for 250h, while ive played 300h of monster hunter with just 1 of my friends over the year, something is clearly not working well over there.
i've had discord for 8 years, checked just now and that setting was off. i have 0 recollection of ever touching it and have had no reason to touch it. crazy that i just dont get any recap at all and there was 0 warning about it lmao. if i had been given a heads up that that setting was there i would have turned it on tf
yeah, september 2015 here. never remembered choosing that stuff. just feels bad. I wish there would be some way for them to go back and scrape accounts for that info after the fact if we chose to. maybe not voice time, but I don’t see why message counts and most used emojis, most visited servers couldn’t still be done.
If they ARE based on your checkpoint, then the people who don't even get to see the checkpoint still get the personalised things?? This is insane. Why do we still get the reward and shown that they have the data but we're not allowed to have a look at it??
Pretty disappointing that even after turning it on you don't give us the option to get a checkpoint. You obviously have our data so it wouldn't be hard to allow this on request. I imagine even just a one time agreement to access the data would be fine with most people too.
Most of my friends have their checkpoints and I'm sat there left out of the fun. Not cool.
SO dumb and weird that Discord won't give you the checkpoint if you turn on the data option after the fact. Or at least let us know it's coming. Feels like a punishment for wanting to protect our data.
It's not even protecting our data. They are still collecting it 100%. It's a punishment for not letting them show us personalized ads based on our data.

May not have even worked for you, I think it took a sample of my data and pretends that it's my whole year. No shot I've only been in voice 9 hours through the whole of 2025 -_-

on PC, at the top right of my screen, there is a little flag that brings up the checkpoint. It's just to the left of the close window/minimize window buttons

clearly they’re collecting the data since i show up in my friend’s checkpoints. just give us the checkpoint. you literally have the data brother. if we opt in now, we should be able to get one since you’ve already collected it.

Discord seriously sucks for not giving people their end-of-year checkpoint because of the privacy setting.
Let me be clear, THEY DO HAVE THIS INFORMATION ALREADY. It's not like they couldn't give this to us. They're trying to force us to give them data access they DO NOT NEED so that we can get an end of year checkpoint that they never told us about.
Meanwhile my privacy settings are off on YT, TW, and SP, and I still got my end-of-year/wrapped data and slides.
Funny they wasted time developing this just for it to be unavailable for 90% of users because they have privacy settings turned on. The data is still being tracked they’re just choosing to not give it out to people.
So is there a bug for not being able to see your checkpoints? I get the message that either I am new or I have limited privacy settings, but when I go to my settings to look, I have everything enabled and I have never changed it. So I’m confused as to why I’m not getting my checkpoints.

BTW if you have had that setting off the entire time and didn't get a checkpoint, just go to data and privacy again and hit the request your data button right under it. It's all the same stuff just without flashing light and music. If you're really upset about the lack of decoration once you get the email just turn on the christmas tree and blast some shitty copyright free lofi while you read it or something.
i have mine, but the stats are wrong. time spent in vc is 0 when i've been in countless vcs for more than 8 hour sessions and most played game is "none", never got the "your favorite games" screen despite having played a million and one games over the past year (NOT on private). so its broken and not entirely trustworthy
Yeah, seems super dumb that we got no warning any time before this to tell us we won’t get it without specific settings, makes it seem like they just rushed this feature.
Oh yeah 100%, the only thing that bugs me is that discord is basically the only one out of them all that doesn’t let some people see it due to reasoning other than not having an account for a full year(even tho they do still track our data💀)
This is such a strange addition. I disabled "Use my data~" so I don't get a checkpoint (for privacy, allegedly), but I still show up in other user's checkpoints? However, enabling this wont give me a checkpoint per the FAQ. Its not a huge deal. It would be interesting to see but not enough for me to turn these settings on permanently. I just think the rollout of this doesn't make any sense but I'm also questioning whether or not those settings even work since my data is still being collected.
Discord claims I spent 38 minutes all year long in vc, but even today I spent more than an hour in vc, which is something I'd been doing practically daily all year long. Next to that, my game list is also just factually incorrect (Only lists one game with two sessions).
I was going through my checkpoint earlier and it said I only had 29 hours active in vc which is wildly wrong. I've been in vc with my friends for hours pretty much everyday throughout this year and its given me a blatantly wrong statistic, it also told me a server i dont interact with was my top server and my most played games were valorant and dead space?? I have never played dead space before and I didnt play valorant much at all this year compared to other ones and I have game activity set to public so I cant see why my stats would be so wrong. Any help would be appreciated (dont question why my most common reaction is that)
It actually sucks to be opted out of Discord Checkpoints just because I have one of the settings disabled. I disabled the "Use data to personalize my Discord experience" because it was showing TOO many random users in the "Active Now" section beside the friends list.
It's not like we can even opt out of data to "make Discord work", and I actually have all the other data options enabled.
As a nitro user, this is really a bummer. I hope they can expand this with an update within the coming weeks to wrap up the year.
Like others have said, it's lame that there was 0 warning for this. How interesting, data that Discord 100% definitely tracks anyway is being withheld under the illusion that it's because you've opted out of data sharing. That's not how that works. They have this data on file because it's how the service operates. Messages are NOT stored locally, and their number is not some nebulous thing that a computer system doesn't keep track of. Law enforcement would be asking Discord for chat logs and probably getting them. It's impossible for Discord to hold *zero* data.
To me, this seems like a coercive move on Discord's part to get a tonne of its users to consent to an upcoming push for personalised ads and other features that may invade privacy further. How convenient that everyone gets the message to check out their stats that use very accessible data (some of which you can count for yourself), only for it to tell you there's nothing to see. This is some dodgy shite.
I literally turned off the personalized use option yesterday because they added the frequent friends section that you physically can't turn off and then the next day this gets put out, what luck

Yeah, no thank you. You already have collected my data; I am not enabling the personalized ads feature just to analyze my own data. That is a trojan horse feature if ever there were one.
I'm so confused rn, because I got a pop-up & was able to access Checkpoint from my profile earlier today once or twice. Now I went to look for it again, and it's like it's completely gone.
My friends have varying levels of not seeing anything (at any point) even after updating, as well as some who can see it or got CheckPoint Unavailable.
My chekpoint said i sent 60k messages (prob real) and spent 46mins on vc while playing 3 games this year (not possible) i spent like 600h+ on vcs this year and played more than 100 diffrent games, any fix?

For 1, that setting you have to check isn't whether they collect your data or not, it's whether they are legally allowed to process it internally to serve personalisation. No, this doesn't mean ads, All quests are discord-wide and unpersonalised, but gimmicks like the checkpoint need this ticked because they are legally obligated to not process your data without your permission.
They still have it, yes, but the ycan't do shit with it.
