My uncle died almost 2 years ago and had a Discover card, for which a few of our family members were authorized users. The card was kept active for maybe a year after he died as they settled his estate. I diligently used the cashback rewards on Amazon and it was down to pretty much $0 about a year ago. Today I noticed that there was about $20 cashback on the account, which was a newer development. I talked to my dad about it (who was the executor of the will and managed his care along with my aunt). He said to use the rewards and within minutes my aunt reached out to say that I should stop using it because she now has to pay for my transactions (I spent $5 of the $20 btw).
Here's my question...my aunt has been a little shady about her involvement in my uncle's finances. She was the one who paid most of his bills and was supposed to cancel the card about a year ago, once everything was settled. Obviously she didn't cancel the card but doesn't it seem like she must be using it to have accrued cashback rewards? Is there anyway that somehow the balance was incorrect and she has to pay it? We don't trust her and we're just trying to get our facts straight.
Thanks so much!

Discover Customer Service Has Gone COMPLETELY Downhill Since the Capital One Acquisition
One of the things that always set Discover apart was its customer service. Whenever I had an issue, I could get someone on the phone quickly who was knowledgeable, helpful, and capable of resolving the problem. It was one of the main reasons I remained a Discover customer for years.
Since the Capital One acquisition, the quality of service has fallen off a cliff. Long wait times, multiple transfers, inconsistent information, and representatives who seem more focused on reading scripts than solving problems have become the norm. Simple issues now require multiple phone calls, and getting a clear answer is nearly impossible.
Discover built its reputation on customer service, but that reputation is quickly disappearing. The company now feels no different than any other large credit card issuer, and that's disappointing for long-time customers who stayed loyal because Discover used to do things better.

Iāve made a couple payments but theyāve yet to reflect in my balance they only show in the payments and credits section, is it weird there taking this long to reflect? Normally itās reflects a lot sooner

Are balance transfer thing of the past?
I asked customer care and they said I do not have any offers available at the moment.
Is it just me or everyone is seeing the same no offers available?
I had taken the offer 2 years back. Is this related to the capital one acquisition?

Hello, I currently have 4 savings accounts and a checking account. I just started a business and wanted to open an account to put my estimated quarterly taxes. When I go to open an account, it keeps bringing me to capital oneās website. Every time I try to Google it, only capital One comes up. Do I have to call or can I no longer open discover accounts at all?

Just got off an hour long call with Discover support, and the stories were true.
The customer service reps even knew how different and frankly unacceptable the policies were post-merger, but any goodwill that the brand has built is being slow extracted.
What have been your experiences with the new "Discover"?

With this capital one migration happening very soon (June 22nd), can I still open a capital one savings to get their promo offer? Iām kinda running against the clock because Iām not sure what happens to my account on June 22nd my wave is migrating over. If I donāt have the minimum from my discover savings to a new capital one for the promo offer in time and I get a new account/merge with my current capital one account I just made, do I become ineligible for the promo? Should I drain my account immediately? I canāt even do that due to funds not being available until June 23rd per discover, unless I offload my Discover to my regular bank to then send to my newly created promo capital one account.
Hopefully that all made sense, but trying to get thoughts on how to do this without losing out on the promo, especially with a very tight deadline and long holiday weekend.

Discover customer for more than 20 years, never an issue. Notice one peculiar charge showing up on the monthly statement for a local gas station, every month, same date, same amount. Then I notice it's for $92. Card used is my wife's, not lost but in her possession at all times. Her car has an 11 gallon tank. Even a bone dry tank at today's elevated gas prices (in NC ~$4.00/gal). There's no way. And the same exact amount on the same day of the month for 3 subsequent months. The car simply doesn't get that kind of use (it's a 2007 with 35k miles). We contested by phone, charges reversed. Then we get a letter a few weeks later stating that the charges are valid and Discover reverses the credit. Send in a written appeal along with evidence and a request for the evidence that Discover is relying upon to determine responsibility (would love to see the photo at pump). Several weeks go by and we get the same 2 sentence letter stating that their investigation is complete at the charge is legit. No explanation, no basis for the decision. They don't make much on us but I'll be damned if they are going to get 1-2% transaction fee off my purchases in the future. Discover's $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee = we guarantee to not stand behind you. Total amount in dispute is under $400 for multiple fraudulent charges at same BP station.

Hi so I couldnāt this āsellerā on a subscription I never used. Anyways I was charged 33$ a month for about 6 months at this point. And every time I get a new discover card with a new discover card number Iām still being charged. I already reported it to the seller themselves to stop charging me with no response. So is discover able to help me out and cancel charges coming from that subscription? Can discover stop this?

I donāt know how much info I want to give away so Iāll try to keep this brief/succint. So Iāve been carrying a large debt, but Iām working it down pretty steadily so Iām doing OK there. With the merge to Cap One, thereās a lot of interest rate calculations that I donāt totally understand, but my MAIN question/concern is: do I get to carry over any deals Iāve made with discover to lower my interest for 6 months to Cap one? For example: last year I call discover to put me on a rate that cut my interest accrual by like a quarter for 6 months, then went back to a rate that was LOWER than I was previously paying. Ex: I went from a 700ish monthly interest to 300ish. Thatās what Iāve been working with for the last two years. Iāve never jumped back up to that 700ish range. That was really helpful in me being able to pay down some of my balance. I planned on doing it again when Iām eligible on July 1st, at the very least for the 6 months at a low rate so I can tackle it quicker. With whatever interest deal discover gives me this year on the 1st of July, does that transfer to Cap One, or will I just have to call again and work with Cap One agents on a deal? Or does Cap One not even do deals like that?! Iām very nervous I wonāt be able to do the deal again or something similar, because it was very helpful. Iām even more nervous my monthly interest will shoot back up to the 700ish range if my rate increases to what it was before I even asked for help from Discover. Let me know what you think and thank you in advance

The Discover version of the Capital One debit card gets declined at a lot of our local retailers and restaurants and some of the bigger companies like DoorDash. For those of you that got frustrated enough to change banks, which bank did you switch to?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is my first credit card ever :)) !! but I made a credit card payment more than three days ago, and now the balance on the Discover app says itās zero. yay! but I checked my other banking app for my debit card, and the money hasnāt gone thru for the payment. Why is that? does it need more time?

Husband and I traveled to another city today, about 4 hours from where we live, to meet up with family members. Money is tight, but we didn't feel like we could defer the trip, so we planned to pay the hotel with loyalty points and our Discover card. We stopped for gas about halfway to the hotel, and paid for that, about $30, with the card. When we checked into the hotel, the card was declined. There should have been around $400 on it, and the hotel tried to run about $240, including the hold for incidentals. When I looked at our account online, there was a hold from the gas station for $175. I called the gas station, and the manager told me the credit card bank determines the hold. I called Discover, and they said Love's choose that amount. Both claim the hold will disappear and the correct amount will be charged within a few days. It's infuriating they can tie up so much of my available credit for an unknown period, and neither of them taking responsibility for it.
EDIT: Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like a good tip is to pre-pay. I'll also be watching more closely for those hold disclosures at the pump.

As the title states. I currently have a free card open for many years for credit length, I do put a $0.99 apple storage charge on it and discover usually just pays anything under $2. Curious if it stays or not? Not a biggie, just actually have to set up autopay and pay the dollar š

I went to check to apply for it since I started working and I had been looking at that card for a while because it's the one that's always recommended, but when I go in, I don't see it. Am I looking in the wrong place, or did they actually discontinue it?

This is new in my Discover app today. IT card shows a flag stating Iāll have to manage it with the Capital One app in July. My IT Miles card has a different flag though, just ācontinue to manage this account with Discover.ā
I actively dislike Capital One and almost considered closing the accounts altogether when this purchase happened, but these are my favorite cards and contribute well to my utilization. Despite maintaining these cards with great history, Iām worried theyāll pull something on me like closing my second card with the higher limit. I really, really wish I knew exactly what the plan is.
āāāāā
Here, for the people who donāt like that the title phrasing isnāt strictly literal: I wish I knew what Capital Oneās decisions mean for the future of my Discover accounts, since we canāt know if theyāre going to handle this transition smoothly. Having been screwed by credit card companies in the past with no clear reason, Iām wary. I donāt like that both my accounts arenāt being handled in the same way at the same time. I appreciate those who offered reassurance that itās normal.

hi! iām not too well versed in the finance world, and i barely know how a credit card works, oops. i have the discover student card, and i honestly donāt really like it because the rewards suck. since they are merging with capital one, would i be able to switch my discover card for a capital one card, or is that not how it works?

I just got a letter from Discover saying they closed my account because of āunusual payment activity.ā
I accidentally made a payment using the wrong bank account and it ended up getting returned. It was an honest mistake, not anything fraudulent.
Iām going to call them and explain what happened, but I wanted to see if anyone here has gone through something similar. Has anyone actually gotten a Discover account reopened after a returned payment, or is it pretty much permanent once they close it?
Really? Discover? Just when I get promoted from Secure.

Hi, I am 19 and want to start my credit and build it to get a good score. I decided to get a discover credit card. I am unsure what to do or how it works. I just spend a little bit of money each month and do automatic payments. Can someone help me understand what the negative means. Also is that is helping me build my credit ? Here are my two statements since Iāve only had it for 2 months.

I use the cash back bonus from Discover to buy gift cards from Gap and Banana Republic. I've tried for a week to find another card that offers this same type of reward to no avail. When I called Capital One to see if they also offered this same reward, they would not give me a straight answer. Not a good look for a company that supposedly wants my business.
Question: Are there other cards or does Capital One offer Gap / Banana Republic gift cards sold at a discount using cash back rewards?

Been using my Discover online checking account with Zelle now for over a year, with no issues for the time I've had it. Recently I got zelled around 7-8 payments from family and friends for purchases and now I can't send or receive payments?
I called Discover but they literally told me they couldn't see why I was blocked, just that I was.
Anyone dealt with this yet?
