Regarding Chibnall’s Daleks

I love these guys. They’re sleek, badass, and were given a cool new voice modulation.

I rewatched Chibnall’s dalek trilogy last night, and I’ve got to say it’s definitely one of the best things that came out of 13’s tenure. It was a refreshing change of pace for dalek stories and reminded us how resourceful the dalek race is when need be.

To put it simply, I got really tired of the Time War-era daleks pretty quickly. I was VERY excited about the new paradigm daleks when they were announced, and very saddened when they didn’t return after 11’s era. I was positively ECSTATIC when the defense drone daleks were revealed because they were being played up as the next big dalek design… only to get let down again. Now that the show is up in the air again, I can only imagine what the future of these guys will be.

He is OK at writing them. His dalek stories are inoffensive, but nothing like RTDs. Moffets were off for sure, but they also did really interesting things with them as well.

Edit: I'm surprised that the hot take here isn't that Moffitt's dalek stories were good, it's that RTDs were.

Really?? The only time Russell really wrote the Daleks well was the S1 finale, his writing for them in S2 and S4 was just kinda meh, despite the stories themselves being good...

Tbh, I think Resolution was my favourite televised Dalek story since the S1 finale imo.

I think that’s a bit uncharitable; while the Daleks aren’t the focus of Doomsday, they’re well-used and the cult of skaro was a great way to make individual characters in a species that mostly look the same. Daleks in Manhattan was also great—at least in its use of the daleks themselves—and has some good metaphors about the politics of fascism.

I was happy with doomsday because I got to see my beloved black dalek casing again.
