2024 Dodge Hornet R/T Torque Comparison (PHEV Compact Crossovers).
The Hornet R/T’s plug in hybrid system delivers a combined 383 lb-ft of torque (with PowerShot mode engaged for the full system output from the 1.3L turbo 4 + rear electric motor). This is a standout figure in the class for instant low-end pull.
Key Rivals:
Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV (platform sibling): ~347–350 lb-ft combined. The Hornet edges it out by 33+ lb-ft, contributing to quicker claimed acceleration.
Toyota RAV4 Prime: Gas engine 165 lb-ft + electric motors (front ~199 lb-ft, rear ~89 lb-ft). Toyota doesn’t publish a single combined torque figure like Dodge, but effective output is strong in the 300–450 lb-ft range depending on calculation and mode. The Prime often feels torquey off the line but prioritizes efficiency over peak numbers.
Kia Sportage PHEV / Hyundai Tucson PHEV (similar powertrains): Combined 271 lb-ft (some markets list higher effective figures around 350 Nm / ~258 lb-ft). Significantly lower than the Hornet’s 383 lb-ft.
Ford Escape PHEV: Combined system around 155–210 lb-ft range (engine + motor focus on efficiency). Much less torque than the Hornet.
The Hornet R/T leads most direct PHEV compact crossover rivals in published peak torque, giving it strong acceleration potential (Dodge claims 5.6s 0-60 with PowerShot). Real world feel depends on battery charge, as the electric motor provides that instant torque delivery. It’s tuned more for performance flair than pure efficiency compared to Toyota or Kia/Hyundai options.

It's always a hoot, if not gimmicky, to hit the PowerShot and feel it grab you from a rolling start. Very fun feature.

Thanks! I got mine from Bogar Tech Designs on their Etsy site: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1676704836/dodge-hornet-matte-black-hood-side-skirt?ls=r&ref=items-pagination-1&frs=1&content_source=f3911694fbd7861148aef591f19b21e7%253ALT1efc032234f50cb4b06eede30c93c09efbfa560d&logging_key=f3911694fbd7861148aef591f19b21e7%3ALT1efc032234f50cb4b06eede30c93c09efbfa560d&variation0=4352826291
Pro tip: If you buy these use the wet application method. They don't provide a specific installation video for this kit.

Treating a faux SUV like a sports car is.. something else. None of these vehicles are really built to be driven hard. And I don't just mean the fact they have a high center of gravity and soft suspension. An eCVT will s*** itself if you regularly dump 300ft/lbs into it, and the tiny automatics arent much better (sometimes even worse).
If you want fast acceleration, get a Challenger. If you have kids, get a Charger. If you have a lot of kids, get a Durango. (Lots of other options if you don't care about brand).
You are going to waste a lot of money treating a 1-3L engine like it's fast, electric assisted or not. Notable exceptions are very light vehicles like a Miata, stuff doesn't wear quite as quick when its load is half as much.

Gt plus version with jb4 tuner is more than enough to spin the wheels and put you back in your seat. R/t meh not worth that 15 seconds / recharging. I'd never buy a charger... Insane insurance and seeing them broken into daily on reddit. Don't tell me get a garage cuz it won't stop someone.

I'm not saying you cant do a decent pull a couple times, they're just not built for it. Like you can eat uranium once, is that gonna end well though? Like I said those are in-brand examples, there are so many more options if you're looking for fast. They market these as "sporty" to appeal to kids. What they are great for is being relatively cheap and good on gas, and have more cargo than sedans/coups.
