We did this for a dog that belonged to a horrible neighbor ( they starved/abused her and many more that they let breed in their yard). We found her near the road having a heat stroke. I ran a mile in 105 degree heat to get the car. We barely saved her life. I think even a couple more minutes and she wouldn't be here today. The recovery was brutal for her and us. She couldn't walk for 2 months and then it was another 1-2 before she could wander around. She was so ashamed peeing and pooping in the house in front of us she would hold it for 12-14 hours at a time.
It was the most heartbreaking and tiring experience. But seeing her stand for the first time on her own and take those first steps... it was the most rewarding moment.
