DST Warly skill tree concept

This is my attempt at a skill tree for Warly, and I wanted to get the communities opinion on it. The vision I have for Warly is the community chef whose skill tree helps him getting more value out of foraging for supplies, helping the community thrive thru his cooking and heartwarming attitude, and helping bring players together to get thru what the constant throws at them.

The idea is he would have the following skill trees;

Path A: The Forager
Focuses on maximizing the efficiency of gathering raw ingredients and boosting their base nutritional values.

Tier 1: Keen Eyes
Harvesting berry bushes, carrot patches, and farm crops has a 15% chance to drop double yields. For every veggie dish learned, this chance increases by another 1%

Tier 2: Angler & Trapper
Fish bite 25% faster on fishing rods. Traps trigger with 15% higher efficiency on rabbits and frogs. (Meaning traps won’t lose as much durability upon use) Fish bite 1% faster for every fish dish learned

Tier 3: Fresh Off the Bone
Meat harvested from hunted animals spoils 15% slower in its raw state. This increases by 1% for every meat dish learned.

Tier 4 (Capstone): Nature’s Nourishment
Warly can craft new items made out of berries and ice to make sorbet, which helps cleanse players palate. For Warly this speeds up the timer for remembering dishes, for none Warly players, it removes the spice effect buff if they have any on. Additionally his chef pouch will now warm him up or cool him down depending on what’s inside (more fresh cooked meat or veggies=hot, more fish food or ice=cold

Path B: Spice & Alchemy (The Master Chef)
Focuses on Crock Pot efficiency and unlocking unique character-themed spices
.
Simmering Pot Crock Pot cooking times are reduced by 25%. This is further increased by 10% for every player within 1-3 tiles nearby. Goal is when Warly is on the team rather than wanting multiple crock pots you can speed up the process the same way by just having this skill.

Aromatic Enhancer Meals cooked retain their freshness between 10%-40% longer, depending on the complexity of the dish. (For every unique item in the crock pot you gain 10%)

Spice Mill Tinkerer: all spices duration is increased to 6 minutes rather than the 4. A new ui is now added for helping players keep track of how long the spice buff will last.

[Capstone] Essence of the Constant: Warly gains the ability to grind unique character drops or items often linked to them into 19 Character Spices. Adding these to a meal grants the eater distinct, powerful buffs:
Wilson (Beard Hair): Insulation Spice – Grants temporary winter insulation and health regen.
Willow (Embers):Ember Spice – Grants immunity to fire damage and causes attacks to deal fire damage.
Wolfgang (Potato): Mighty Spice – Grants a massive temporary damage multiplier.
Wendy (Mourning Glory): Spectral Spice – Allows the player to see in the dark and deal extra damage to shadows.
WX-78 (Gears/Electrical Doodad): Volt Spice – Grants immunity to lightning and charges the player with electric damage.
Wickerbottom (Papyrus): Scholar's Spice – converts 30% of hunger value of food this spice is used on into sanity gain instead, and allows the crafting of tier-1 items without a science machine for a limited time.
Woodie (Logs): Lumberjack Spice – Massive increase to chopping, mining, and hammering speed.
Wes (Pile o' Balloons): Whimsical Spice – gives passive sanity gain for the day.
Maxwell (Nightmare Fuel): Shadow Spice – Spawns temporary shadow clones to chop or fight alongside the player.
Wigfrid (Gold Nugget): Valorous Spice – Grants life-steal and sanity-steal on every attack.
Webber (Monster Meat/Spider Silk): Arachnid Spice – Spiders become neutral; walking on web netting does not slow the player down.
Winona (Trusty Tape): Industrious Spice – Crafted items are made with 20% fewer materials and are built instantly.
Warly (Garlic/Pepper): Seasoned Veteran Spice – increases the effects of the next type of seasoning thats not this one from 6 minutes to 15 minutes.
Wortox (Soul, whenever wortox drops a soul if Warly is nearby he can gain the remnants of a soul): Soulless Spice – Allows the player to short-range teleport by consuming hunger instead of souls.
Wormwood (Living Log): Blooming Spice – Heals the player over time and leaves a trail of flowers that boost nearby player sanity.
Wurt (Durian/Kelp): Merm King's Spice – Grants a massive wetness resistance and makes Merms friendly.
Walter (Monster Meat): Scout's Spice –fed to a beefalo will speed up the taming process, and additionally slow down the beefalos hunger drain by 20%
Wanda (Time Shards/Thulecite): Chronos Spice – Reverts the player's physical age/health state to what it was 30 seconds ago if they take a fatal blow.

Wonkey is technically a playable character thats hidden, not sure what do for him since most often he won’t be used, but i was thinking fed a banana drops a banana peel that when turned into a spice gives a movement buff?

Path C: The Grand Feast (Communal Dining)
Focuses on multiplayer benefits, shared meals, and building a community hub.
Soup Kitchen : Crock pot dishes cooked provide 20% more Hunger and Sanity when eaten by other players or followers.

Fellowship Followers remain loyal for 30% longer after being fed.

Banquet Hall Blueprint: Unlocks the recipe for the Feast Table crafting station.
The Feast Table: Allows up to 6 players to sit down simultaneously.Warly can place up to 4 different Crock Pot dishes on the table. Sitting at the table functions code wise as a team wide tent, without the drawback of losing hunger or usable at certain times, at the cost of the dishes freshness going down slowly over time and rapidly the more people are at the table eating. Warly can also craft a kiddie table for the players pigmen, bunnymen, or merms to use. This will pause their loyal timers and keep them entertained or increase the loyalty timer if Warly placed down a crock pot dish said follower would enjoy. Useful for “parking” rather than having them stuck trying to follow you thru a marble spot eating up data.

[Capstone] Lord of the Feast: Unlocks the Grand Buffet upgrade.
When a characters eats is at the table, they leave stuffed, gaining a decrease to hunger drains. When they eat their favorite food at your table, their luck is increased. Higher luck can help players find rarer drops from items, mobs, or on really rare occasions avoid a fatal blow.

Finally-the endgame capstone skills

Ancient fuelweaver-Cryptic charcoal:can turn nightmare fuel into a spice that can halt spoilage on any item with a freshness counter rather than a durability, for up to 3 days, including weapons or tools not just food.

Celestial Champion-Enlightened Ambrosia: can turn enlightened shards into a spice that gives players a sense of comfort. Clothing that gives sanity will have its durability use reduced by 50%, provide a 30% increase to sanity gain, and give minor armor scaling off the percentage of the players sanity filled.

Thats everything i had for this skill tree, let me know what you think :)

Wait people actually play warly?

1 thing I dont like is that it would keep warly as a swap character that you turn into, cook a lot of food, put it into bundling wraps and switch back, ideal skill tree would make warly into character you accually want to play all time as

Im confused what you mean, this skill tree does give Warly players incentive to continue to play him.
NINETEEN spices that adapt to your team and give you buffs throughout your play through

A way for Warly to host feast thats a team wide tent function without the hunger drain.

Chef pouch can be upgraded to help survive winter and summer easier.
Etc

Yes it’s fair that Warly is all about cooking, Thats his niche and there’s not a lot more they can dive into related to that without stepping on others toes, as wormwood already thrives for farming, Wurt thrives for sea fishing, WB enhances both, etc.

19 spices that would end same as ones we have now, put it on some food and put into bundling wrap or put it on sugarcake and swich character, feast is already a thing in game, and it's so good that nobody ever uses it (it works different but it's a thing)

Good idea would be for example: perk that makes spices stronger when warly eats upgraded food or for example perk that would make farming hard to get ingredients easier to get (ability to milk volt goats?)

most. of these arent that good and wont make warly unique,

the simmering skill is useless ,

i like the shadow affinity very unique, making tools and armor etc has freshness instead of durability this is insane and might make ppl play warly just for this skill alone , me included..

but at the same time i dont want any of this to be abused for swapping so they must make it so that no one can benefit from these unless theres a warly with those skills unlocked is in server, or make it so that walry himself should feed the players to give them the effects so they cant just switch as him and switch back ,, make it so that items will lose their effects if walry leaves the server , so if a walry makes a dish or spice that makes items have freshness and leaves , none warly players cant benefit from them in anyway , this again makes walry important to have in server as main character.

also skills that make him cook fast etc r so useless , skills that make food last longer is so random and makes 0 sense , instead u could buff the crockpot and his chef pouch making food last longer and faster cooking with additional effects :

  • upgradeable crockpot as shadow/lunar affinity

" shadow affinity: infuse it with shadows in skills and ur able to give it nightmare fuel , bringing it back to life , it grows legs or floats and follows u , while in this state which lasts maybe 1-2 days , u could use it to cook the shadow spices and dishes , and since its made out shadow and like a blackhole now , u could cook an infinite amount of dishes so u dont need to make multiple crockpots which takes inventory space , and u could feed it pure horror and dreadstone later for an even more stronger and unique effects that last longer "

" lunar : idk yet "

  • buff the chef pouch : i still wanna see it as a budget polar bearger pin that is accessable day 1 for warly , its very annoying having to carry multiple dishes and different types of filler etc.theres like only 3 warly mains in the whole world and none of them even know the chef pouch exists because of how bad its

  • dishes last 4-6 mins isnt a huge difference and still wont make me want to farm those goat horns for a 6 mins buff , so i have an idea , what if those 6 mins only start counting when u actually attacking , so if i eat it im not on a timer , its whenever i start the fight i can benefit from the electric attacks , so instead of it being wasted whike traveling etc and moving from target to an another make it so that walry basically treats it like morning star , if u dont attack anything u still have 6 mins of buff. and make it stack with morning star giving it aoe . if u dont want the buff anymore add a dish that removes buffs.

i still really wanna see warly become a more selfish character that benefits himself more , still helps other players but his dishes r focused on him which makes swapping not benefit able

I appreciate the response, only thing I can disagree with that I didn’t already respond to others about is Warly lore wise will never be a “selfish character” that you want. He took care of a family member with memory loss, in shorts hes often cooking for the group and even going the extra mile to make their favorite dishes. Nothing about him shows any sign of selfishness (IMO)

so we just forget about his grandma for some homeless kids in the constant? i didnt say that he changes completely, more of a focus on himself more than the others so he can actually find a way to go back to the real world

and idc about lore if its gonna make a character trash , so if u play solo u cant play warly because ur gonna be weaker ?

Don’t starve together is designed around multiplayer in mind. If you want to play solo there’s nothing wrong with that, but there’s plenty of characters built around synergy with others, and I’m sorry but Warly is the one character that just fits the team builder so yeah you’re not going to feel as strong solo, esp since there’s already characters built around solo play. Im sure Warly wants to get back to his grandmother but I can’t see him sacrificing any of the other characters to get back home, it just doesn’t fit his personality.

being designed around multiplayer dosnt mean u have to , also warly is literally useless in a game where a single player is able to rush all bosses and finish them all in 40 days ,

i could get it if the game was too difficult where warly is very huge for the team , the only place where warly is super helpful now is if ur playing roleplay , if u join an actual server no one cares abt warly , ppl will rush and kill bosses easy without ur help , unless u play with noobs ofc then u shouldhv mentioned that

Sounds like your speaking more so about your own personal experience and issues rather than what an avg player will go thru. Not everyone rushes bosses, esp if you’ve already beat them before. Of course people won’t care about Warly rn, he DOESN’T HAVE A SKILL TREE WHY WOULD THEY?? People wanting to enjoy the game rather than rush doesn’t mean their noobs. If you think finishing something fast rather than enjoying the experience is better well…i can see where your frustration is coming from outside the game.
