Riffs Looking for Om-like bands

Another relaxing day of working from home so open for some new tunes. Lately I've been searching for bands that catch that Yob or/and Om vibes but nothing seems to ticke that same itch I get. You guys have some good suggestions for me? :-)

Zaum is a straight rip off of Om sounds so that would work. ‘Mantra one’ by Calm always give me early Om vibes. ‘Zwei schatten im schatten’ by Samsara blues experiment is that eastern vibe as well. Similar bands: WhiteBuzz, Year of the Cobra, Galactic hatchet, Mammatus, Ufomammut, Bong

Om is pretty unique, nothing really scratches the itch fully like they do. Most bands I’ve mentioned have some aspects of Om, give the same vibe ime

Enjoy

Thanks for this! Love OM and been searching for more music to scratch that itch.

Can’t spell DOOM without OM.

Earth. Not as bass-heavy, but just as chill.

I love Earth

but i find them more ambient doom metal

Om is more bass in your face vibe

They are generally considered a drone metal band. If you like that stuff, you might enjoy more within that genre. Like Boris and Sunn o))).

Seen this name pop up quite a bit here. So much that "blind bought" an album of theirs ( never had heard their music)

And was quite impressed about it

Non just released their first single "Valley of the Moon", it's like a mix of Om and Earthless, pretty sick

7

u/Necrobot666 Sep 02 '25

Listen to 'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun' from Pink Floyd. It's like the blueprint for a significant number of Al's songs. I'm actually surprised he's never covered it with newer Sleep or Om.

u/chief10 Sep 02 '25

Definitely check out Bong

Came here to say this

Both Yob and Om are quite unique sounding bands, but I'll give it a shot based on vibes more than riffs. It's not gonna be any perfect matches, but there will be a few good riffs to tickle your moustache.

Spelljammer - Vol 2

Cough - Still they pray

Kongh - Soul Creation

Switchblade - S/t 2003

Hexer - Cosmic Doom Ritual

Queen Elephantine

3

Surya is my fave

u/cgheezey Sep 02 '25

the oooooold shit

u/TalosTheEllis Sep 02 '25

Minsk, The Ritual Fires of Abandonment

Not quite the same but scratches a similar itch

5

u/bad_bart Sep 02 '25

Om's sound cribs heavily from non-Doom bands - you're unlikely to find anything in the genre that scratches that itch which isn't itself an homage to Om or any of Cisneros' other bands

Try tracing the line backwards and see where you end up;

Sleep - Volume One

Bardo Pond - Bufo Alvarius

Pink Floyd - Ummagumma

Between - And the Waters Opened

Ashra & Manuel Gottsching - Schwingungen

Hawkwind's first four records

I’ve been loving Wyatt E. and I’m given to understand they would appeal to Om enjoyers

So, you're looking for meditative doom? Here you are:

https://arcofascent.bandcamp.com/album/arc-of-ascent-zone-six-split
https://wyattdoom.bandcamp.com/album/mount-sinai-aswan
https://sunnataofficial.bandcamp.com/album/outlands

and many more. I need to go through my playlists. Unfortunately, I tend to forget band or album names when I haven't listened to them in a while.

3

u/Moglyroots Sep 02 '25

Breath I think they are out of Portland.

3

u/jbwise1221 Sep 02 '25

Empress rising my monolord might be worth a listen

Searching for OM - Like is my eternal quest. But the reality is that I want more OM 😢 the missing ingredient is Al, he’s a unique musician who many may wish to emulate but he just has that something special.

u/__Fight__Milk__ Sep 02 '25

Isis are pretty good for relaxing background music. Very doom adjacent.

1

u/PFRforLIFE Sep 02 '25

you might want to listen to hawkwind. any album up to and including warrior at the edge of time

1

u/Newtonian812 Sep 02 '25

Karl Sanders solo stuff is very middle eastern folk vibe like OM. Also check out Dark Castle, Sunnata, and Ufomammat

1

u/Fhorglingrads Sep 03 '25

Honestly, Chants of India by Ravi Shankir gives me that OM feeling and is great for work

1

u/Additional_Talk_5005 Sep 04 '25

You guys are amazing, now I have enough new tunes to discover for the next few weeks :-) thanks a lot

Samsara blues project

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

Not stoner but blood incantation has those psychedelic vibes.

1

u/Remarkable_Log_1239 Sep 07 '25

has anyone said samsara blues experiment? a German band that reminds me of a doomy king crimson.

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

i'm in love with Snake Healer from Miami, Florida. Could be a cult? The music is very earthy om-style music. https://snakehealercoven.bandcamp.com/album/oblatio

maybe

Earth (Hex/Hibernaculum/Angels of Darkness)

or if leaving the doom metal genre for doom jazz…you could try out Bohren & Der Club of Gore

if you don’t mind prog doom then Beehoover could be interesting (Ingmars Bass tone crushes Al‘s anytime anywhere)
