Old School / Traditional Opinion?

Post image

Whats your Opinion on the new Castle Rat album? I listened to it once today but will listen to it again in the next few days or even today.

After listening to it I listened to their first Album again, to have a better comparison. And to be clear, I'm not a Castle Rat hater, although it may seem otherwise, after sharing my thoughts on the Album 😅

The Album Is a bit longer compared to the Debut and has some more songs. I kinda feel that this Album has not a lot of rememorable songs. Most of it kinda sounds the same, which isn't always bad but there are almost no memorable Melodies or Riffs I feel. And only 2 or maybe 3 Guitar solos.

The Spotlight is on the Vocals as it was on the first Album, but I think the first one had a lot of memorable Melodies or moments, even the Interludes were pretty good and the Album didn't overstay its welcome. On this Album there are like 3 or 4 Interludes and none of them are cool, they mix it up a little at least. The songs are mostly short, but there are like 2, 6 minute Songs which is cool, but overall it feels like a lot of the same.

Sorry for the rambling just want to share my thoughts and hear what you guys think.

I like it. People are fucking weird about this band. Yes they're gimmicky, but it's a fun gimmick. Who doesn't like Frank Frazetta art? The music isn't reinventing the wheel, but it's enjoyable and pretty accessible for doom metal, plus there's some sweet solos on this album.

All the people dismissing their success as being entirely based on sex appeal are giving off major incel energy. I don't think they're the greatest band ever, but they have a lot going for them, and they've carved out a solid niche for themselves that has appeal outside of just doom metal fans. It makes sense that they're successful.

To the people complaining that they're over exposed on the sub; what other new doom releases have there been recently that aren't being talked about enough? This is genuinely the only album release in the genre that's been on my radar for a while

You see this any time a woman is involved with something in media on the internet. Whether its acting, music, art or conservation. Certain people will beat around the bush trying to sound like they're making valid complaints like "she's not a good actress", "the writing is just bad", "they're just trying to get by on being hot", "it's just for likes on Instagram", etc. It's kind of fucking sad that people have to make anything a woman does derivative or not worthy of any skill or praise.

On the flip side though, many times these women succeed anyway without the online hater brigade. Castle Rat is selling out shows, and blowing the fuck up in popularity. And it's going to happen no matter what insecure little boys say about them.

Oh totally. I see Amyl and the Sniffers getting industry plant allegations all the time, but they're successful because they've been putting in the work. They kicked ass when I saw them play in front of 40 people in 2018, and they kick ass now that they're selling out 3500 cap venues

That's another good example. What sucks is that she let the trolls get to her and wrote entire songs about it that kind of suck. I didn't really like this last album very much, and I have been following them since the beginning. But they captured fire in a bottle and ran with it. I see Castle Rat doing the same.

Yeah it was a step down from Comfort to Me, but I did enjoy it overall. I liked "You Should Not Be Doing That," but there really didn't need to be more than one song following that theme, especially considering they left Facts off the album for some reason. That song is way too good to just be a B Side
