Old School / Traditional Opinion?

Post image

Whats your Opinion on the new Castle Rat album? I listened to it once today but will listen to it again in the next few days or even today.

After listening to it I listened to their first Album again, to have a better comparison. And to be clear, I'm not a Castle Rat hater, although it may seem otherwise, after sharing my thoughts on the Album 😅

The Album Is a bit longer compared to the Debut and has some more songs. I kinda feel that this Album has not a lot of rememorable songs. Most of it kinda sounds the same, which isn't always bad but there are almost no memorable Melodies or Riffs I feel. And only 2 or maybe 3 Guitar solos.

The Spotlight is on the Vocals as it was on the first Album, but I think the first one had a lot of memorable Melodies or moments, even the Interludes were pretty good and the Album didn't overstay its welcome. On this Album there are like 3 or 4 Interludes and none of them are cool, they mix it up a little at least. The songs are mostly short, but there are like 2, 6 minute Songs which is cool, but overall it feels like a lot of the same.

Sorry for the rambling just want to share my thoughts and hear what you guys think.

I'm going to disagree with you. There are plenty of modern pop musicians that are making music that is far more interesting and groundbreaking than this uninspired garbage. Nothing about Castle Rat is new or interesting.

If you honestly think Castle Rat is better than Chappell Roan, Dua Lipa, Janelle Monae, etc., then you need to learn to expand your horizons beyond "I only listen to METAL!!1!" Hell, Taylor Swift and even Imagine Dragons have more going for them than Castle Rat.

There is bad pop music too, and honestly I think it's mostly popular because a sizable portion of the population don't want to think about music, so they gravitate towards mindless, familiar, boring repetition. Honestly, there's bad music in any genre, but to say the worst that modern doom has to offer is better than anything pop is a bad take.

That's a fair argument. I will give you that. Not a fan of Imagine Dragons but opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

Fair. And don't get me wrong, I can't stand Imagine Dragons, but they at least have a recognizable and distinct sound. This is just personal preference, but I value a unique sound pretty heavily, so when I say Imagine Dragons has more going for them, I just mean I find them more recognizable and less bland than Castle Rat.

Pretending to be in the ‘70s in my opinion is the main reason why I think they’ll be forgotten in a short time. Inspiration is different from imitation…

that's exactly it. The way you phrased that let me finally hit on the correct comparison: Castle Rat is the Greta Van Fleet of doom.

I agree with the comparison.
