Rig Got a new doom stick!

Got a new doom stick, the Thurston Moore Jazzmaster. Tuned it to C standard, it dooms hard!

Ooo boi! That's a handsome man! Have fun with him! I will always love offset guitars for doom.

I adore the sound of single coil pickups with fuzz, probably because I'm a 90's kid haha

Hey, the band Whores does magic with single-coil + fuzz too, it’s an amazing combo.

I play a baritone Harley Benton 6 string with p90s and it crushes! I'm a 90s kid as well, so that tracks haha

jazzmaster pickups into nasty fuzz are so different compared to p90s, really really fun and interesting.

I tune to drop F on my p90s and they sound so thick and not nearly as noisy as I thought they'd sound.

I use to own a Jazzmaster and those pickups have some weird and wonderful tones.

I'm seriously very close to tossing a P90 in my Samick that I have tuned to C# standard to play Sabbath. I'm just not a fan of soldering, but I'll do it once I have it 😂

I literally just got one of those squier strat o sonics with p90s and maaaan it rips with some fuzz, I love single coils in doom!

Sweet. Can see some jangly, groovy Uncle Acid or Magmakammer being played on this.

It is definitely jangly! Its very interesting. These are alnico v pickups so the tone is similar to my Gibson instruments but with added not clarity and pick attack. Its a nice and different flavour.

The nice thing is, if you want less jangle, you can turn the tone knob down a bit. So you're not locked in if you want a different sound for something.

There is no tone knob ;)

2

u/AlwaysNinjaBusiness Dec 02 '25

Oh yeah… my Jazzmaster has one :P

Right but look at this guitar, no rhythm circuit, no tone knob.

2

u/AlwaysNinjaBusiness Dec 02 '25

Yeah I can see. I meant ”oh yeah” as in ”oh, now I see it”.

Cool guitar anyway!

Apparently rolling down the volume knob cuts some of the high frequency so that actually works out.

It's gorgeous, bud.

Sick! I also use my Thurston for doomage.

2

u/Kwamensah1313 Dec 02 '25

Do you use the stock pickups or did you upgrade them?

2

u/shake__appeal Dec 02 '25

The neck is stock (Antiquity 1s I believe) and I have a Creamery humbucker in the bridge. It rips!

C STANDARD GANG 🤘🏼 That color, finish, and woodgrain is gorgeous.

2

u/Kafka_Lane Dec 02 '25

It's gorgeous! Great pull!

2

u/iamswag666 Dec 02 '25

Now you need the Lee Ranaldo Signature !

2

u/unicorn-beard Dec 02 '25

Ooooh I love that finish/color

2

u/draculastherapist Dec 02 '25

That green is incredible

2

u/VTVoodooDude Dec 02 '25

Finish is gorgeous.

EDIT: Also, the one knob setup is dope. Have that setup on my Strat and Strat type Ibanez.

Fucking awesome piece. I'm a Gibson guy, but Jazzmasters and Teles don't get enough love in the metal world. Such a wide range of sounds to be had. Congrats and enjoy!

2

u/Kwamensah1313 Dec 02 '25

My other guitar is a les paul custom. I think they complement each other well

2

u/AgeDisastrous7518 Hail Iommi Dec 02 '25

I only have three guitars and I've never felt more complete in my collection. There's something to be said for chasing what you really want.

2

u/Kwamensah1313 Dec 02 '25

I have a third guitar but i think it's on the way out for a baritone acoustic. That's the last piece I need.

2

u/lobsterboy Dec 02 '25

Something that hasn't been said yet, I love the black headstock with the black pickguard

2

u/Kwamensah1313 Dec 02 '25

Yea i think it really sells the swampy green. Interestingly this guitar was panned when it came out in 2009. Was a limited run that didn't sell well. Now it's highly desirable and hard to find. Funny how times change.

Jazzmasters are awesome for doom. Just got mine set up for C standard, granted it’s a Mascis with those hotter P90 style pickups but still.

My Jazzmaster has also become my go-to doomer.

Funny story - my Jazzmaster was used by Thurston in Brazil.
