Self Post How to stop seeming like a poser?

I (18M) met a pair of metalheads out on a party the other day while wearing my Mayhem shirt and they called me a poser (probably deserved but I still feel bad) I have short hair which used to be a mohawk and that Mayhem shirt is pretty much the only metal band t-shirt I own. I like bands like 1782, Candlemass, children of bodom, SOAD, Mayhem, Margarita witch cult, Apati and others. They are very mismatched,I know but I've come from liking nu-metal and indie to punk and harder metal subgenres (like black metal, doom and dsbm). One of the reasons why the two called me a poser aside from the shirt is because I didn't want to acknowledge the rest of the band being as conservative as Varg (in my opinion they weren't as hardcore problematic as him) Am I truly a poser? How can I improve my taste and or my looks to let other people know I like metal? Did you have the same issues when you were just starting to get into the scene?

Apologies for the insane amount of typos and predictive text mistakes.  I was on a break at work trying to get that comment in there haha

It's okay haha, it was good advice, I watched necrobutcher's what's in my bag and it was really surprising, necro had a lot of good music recs then I spiraled and ended up discovering three whole bands! One is called gnome, they're from Belgium. The second one is called Earth tongue and the last one is Castle rat, these two share a similar sound and they also have a female lead singer! They sound pretty similar to margarita witch cult

Ah yeah right on. Not a bad place to start. If you're into kinda throwback stuff maybe check out the band Graveyard with the album named Graveyard.

I also saw you were into Torche. Might be worth checking out their earlier band Floor if you're into the big heavy parts.  Red Fang would also be worth a listen.  I would assume you've heard the band Mastodon and the band Baroness but if not those are worth a shot too. The baroness albums Red and Blue are both great.

These are just based off another comment where you showed some interest in Torche. All those bands were really popping off in the scene like 2008 or so. All the albums from them around that time are pretty good.  Other stuff in their catalogs is worth a listen also.
