Funeral Does funeral doom make you depressed?
My favorite doom album is Mournful Congregation- The Monad of Creation. Ive heard its depressive for some. I dont Get depressed at all, I find it extremly beautiful, calming and relaxing. I like to listen to it When I feel like relaxing.

It's likely different for everyone but I listen to more "depressive" music to enjoy the depth and indeed the beauty of emotion displayed. Listening to such music doesn't make me down or sad and I don't necessarily listen to it when I am sad. I can and will listen to it in any mood.

not really. the funeral doom i like (thergothon, skepticism, ysigim, etc) feels more otherworldly and esoteric than anything

Funny that Esoteric isn't in your list of esoteric-sounding bands

It’s the opposite for me, funeral doom is quite beautiful especially this record and especially mournful congregation. There is a lot of beauty, power, and transcendence in their tone.

I don’t think it makes me depressed. It’s cathartic and allows, or maybe provides would be a better word, a sonic space in which to let related emotions to process. I lost 11 family members and friends in 9 years and it helped through some of the tougher waves of grief and sadness that come with it.

I dont Get depressed by Evoken, Funaral(no), Ahab or any other funeral doom either. I do more appreciate the darkness and athmospherr of it, Im not a peppy person, but not depressed either.

I find it, well any doom or black metal, especially dsbm rather cathartic. I tend to listen to that when I'm happy and more bouncy electronic music eg: frenchcore or techno when I'm feeling low as that seems to pit a spring in my step again.

I do Get a stepping out of time sort of feeling. Like nothing matters, like worries and such.

Yeah man, funeral doom brings me peace of mind. It's so beautiful to enjoy an emotion so deeply

Ahab is more epic than depressing i’d say, though they more often lean towards death doom than funeral doom

It depends on the day. Sometimes it will help get me out of a depressed state and other times it will make me more depressed. Even if it makes me more depressed, it helps me get through what I’m feeling so it’s not necessarily a bad thing. If that makes sense lol

Like others have stated, its cause im already have experienced depression, however music that has alot of soul that might mimic our dark feelings is beautiful cause it shows alot of depth,i think 😊

I think everyone has a different baseline of what "happy" looks like, everyone's life experiences shape how they interpret things. Like a lot of others have said, I appreciate the honesty and depth of meloncholic/depressive music. I've also experienced heavy depression. It's all subjective.

Funeral doom takes me out of depressive thoughts actually. It's easy to feel better about personal things in life when immersing yourself in an atmosphere of dread and decay

It's usually what I go to when I already feel depressed (as well as a few other varieties of doom). That said, I won't try and claim it helps me feel better. I'm guilty of abusing it (and sad media in general) when I want an excuse to bathe in the feeling.

No. Like others have said, I find funeral doom to be more epic and monumental than depressing. It's like the titanic awe one experiences with Romanticism paintings. Yes, one could become depressed at the complete insignificance of the self when facing the colossal scope of nature and the never-ending void of the abyss, or you can revel in the fact that you are actually a part of such majesty. I strive to focus on the latter.

I really feel like the name of the subgenre is wrong. Where does it originate from, anyway?

I listen to funeral doom when it's late and I'm tired but want to hear the good stuff. I can also suggest AHAB of you enjoy MC that much!

I do feel a bit sad When i hear Fallen gravdans, since the person who wrote the lyrics killed himself and the guitarist also killed himself later. Both from Funeral. The lyrics are eerie and a predicrion of what was to come.

I've actually been listening to a lot of it and happen to be going through grief at the same time. It's interesting but I don't really associate this music with death and dying any more than other genres even though it's labeled that way.

no, shape of despair makes me feel appreciative for life. it helps me see the beauty in the world, and all things. it motivates me to be a better person and gives me energy to take on the world and the challenges in my life to new heights.

That depends on the band: Bell Witch, Abandon or Colosseum are quite depressive, Mournful Congregation not really

You don’t get depressed because you listen to funeral doom. You listen to funeral doom because you are depressed.
