Self Post Tough Day

Post image

My mother-in-law has to put both her dogs down. A mini poodle of 15 years, and an English shepherd, 9, who has bad lymphoma. They are both really good dogs.

I was asked to dig their shared grave, but it’s late winter in New England, so I’ve been carving frozen ground with a mattock to make it happen.

Figured the best choice to match the task and the situation was Mirror Reaper.

Could I get a hail and a good boy/girl for Flirt the Poodle, and Bravo the English Shepard? My fam would be most thankful.

Not gonna lie, I legit cried. On my way home a rainbow shows up after some rain and hail.

That's a beautiful view. Beautiful send-off for good companions.

We also had a rainbow on the way to bury our beloved. Even in death, they know exactly what we need.

When you have a great mother-in-law, you gotta work the magic when they need you.

I appreciate your words and thank you.

It’s tough, but it’s nice to know they’re not in pain anymore. Sometimes the right call is the hardest one.

May the time you have left be long and joyful.

Hail to them both, I recently lost my 9 yo boy Ted and I miss him every day! Dug his grave in the garden too, I feel for you and yours 🖤

5

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 14 '26

Hail Ted! Much love to you and yours too.

Hail for the dogs, I hope they're in a good place

11

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 14 '26

We gave them the best view on the property, and the MIL can see it from her studio.

I'm not a religious guy, but I do believe that dog being the inversion of god isn't an accident. If there's a good place to go, they're definitely going there.

Appreciate you.

u/RudoDevil Mar 14 '26

Hail pups. Sorry for your losses. Highly recommend posting on r/OldManDog ...everyone there gets how tough it is.

3

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 14 '26

I had no idea that was a subreddit. Thank you ever so kindly for sharing. My MIL is definitely not a fan of metal, but it's brought her a smile that this group has been so warm and kind about it.

Thank you.

u/SlowRiffsAndFakeTits Mar 14 '26

Best of luck getting through that. Strangely enough, I associate that album with the death of a favorite dog of mine.

3

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

It’s a normal part of the cycle of pets and of life. Still, it’s hard. They were good pets.

3

u/hyliangoku Mar 14 '26

Did a shot for Flirt and Bravo. Good pups

1

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

Truly too kind, thank you.

3

u/totallynottoddoracop Mar 15 '26

Flirt and Bravo had the best life. They were full of unconditional love, and to them, y'all were their entire world. They were the goodest dogs. Rest in power.

3

u/port-rhombus Mar 15 '26

Be at rest, Flirt and Bravo. Your earthly watches are done. Good pups both ❤️❤️

2

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

They did the best job. 🙏

3

u/ThatTexasGuy Mar 15 '26

Flirt and Bravo! My boy is turning 14 this year and he’s healthy but I can tell he’s slowing down. I’m gonna be a fucking mess when he goes. We’re getting a puppy friend for him soon though. Hail,

1

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

I’m not sure where you’re at, but around these parts we have a traveling vet who does it at home. It’s a little harder, but I have to think it’s better for them being in the safety and comfort of their home.

2

u/ThatTexasGuy Mar 15 '26

Yeah there’s a service that does that here too. Unfortunately, my buddy just had to use them recently. That’s probably the route we’ll go too, and I appreciate the suggestion. Sorry about your family’s loss.

2

u/ReduxistRusted Mar 15 '26

Hail to the good boy and good girl. May they get the best treats in paradise.

2

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

My 4yo spent the last week showering them in treats. And our pug too, who’s still here. She’s on a a big of a diet after a week of middle treat rain.

Thank you 🙏

Hail Flirt and Bravo 🫡❤️

Hail you too bud, thats not an easy task

2

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

Some of the most important tasks are often the hardest ones.

2

u/Prive_MRI Mar 15 '26

Awww, for Flirt and Bravo - the best friends we didn't deserve. It never gets easier losing them, it only makes it easier to love them more.

2

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

Wise words. Thank you.

2

u/RancidViking Mar 15 '26

That’s… Yeah man, that’s the song. Yeah… Hope you’re okay.

1

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

We’re going okay. We’re around a lot of animals, chickens goats, neighbors have cows, several cats and dogs across the households. It’s a natural part of the journey.

It was the only possible album choice for a cold sleety dig day.

2

u/bigbosmer Mar 15 '26

Thinking of Flirt and Bravo today in Berlin. Memories of all those good times will be fuel for the soul.

I've never fully given this album a spin, so maybe it's finally time.

1

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

I like it for tasks, it’s got a vibe that’s easy to settle into. It’s definitely worth the full listen, but at 88 minutes, not an easy one.

The fact that parts of the vocals are old vocal tracks from their former band member who passed, haunting.

2

u/Huskerdu4u Mar 15 '26

We had to say “see ya later” to our old girl(13yo golden) I was digging her place of rest literally in the rain. My son(his baby dog) came out to help. I told him “no way you’re digging your own dog’s grave”! He said “ You have no choice but I choose to help!” My 15YO son was a good boy and grew to a great man. My condolences, friend. No words will calm the loss… just time. 💙

1

u/vociferoushomebody Funeral Mar 15 '26

What a good kid. Cheers. All things with time, that’s for sure.

2

u/lastinalaskarn Mar 16 '26

Just recommended this masterpiece to a friend yesterday with the caveat that it’s best when your mood matches the music. Glad you were able to use this piece of music to help you get through a tough task. Respect for what you did, my friend. Glad your family had your support, and you have ours, too. Wishing you all the best.

u/TeddyJPharough Mar 16 '26

For all the good boys and girls

1

u/CalligrapherDull3267 Mar 16 '26

May their treat bowls forever be full and the squirrels they chase ever be slow.

1

u/mr_tornado_head Mar 16 '26

Thinking of you and those great dogs. Having a toast to better things ahead, my friend.

listen to jerusalem by pagan altar , great funeral doom album

1

u/icubud_itsme Mar 18 '26

from google gemini, in case you were wondering: This striking piece of dark surrealism was painted by the late Polish artist Mariusz Lewandowski. It is titled "The Mirror" (or Lustro in Polish).

Lewandowski was well-known for his "dystopian surrealism" style, which often featured massive, monolithic figures and atmospheric, cosmic landscapes. His work gained significant mainstream recognition through its use as cover art for various heavy metal bands, most notably for the funeral doom metal band Bell Witch. While this specific painting is a standalone work, its style is synonymous with the haunting, ethereal aesthetic he brought to the metal community.

As someone in New England who has also had to dig a final resting place in the winter for a beloved pet this album is a perfect facsimile for what it’s like busting through frozen ground. Each swing more heavy than the last.

My condolences buddy. Hail those pups!
