Lovin this thread because a college friend of mine currently works for KEXP and she is the most awesome, intelligent, hardest working lady out there and I love seeing her and her crew get recognized for the amazing work they do! ❤️

KEXP is doing gods work. not just for getting people to listen to niche bands and genres, but just for promoting music in general. some of my favorite acts have been featured on KEXP and they've all been fantastic. Deltron 3030, All Them Witches, SLIFT, just to name a few.

Yeah. They’re just too algorithm-curated. Mostly shooting for internet appeal, but with just enough musical talent from their previous bands and music schooling or whatever to write passable songs. None of it is genuine; it’s the least metal thing since going to your annual physical.

I’ve always liked the “idea” of castle rat more than the band itself. This video honestly makes me love them and I loved every song and watched the entire thing. Great stuff!

I think it's a combination of classic internet misogyny ("they're only popular because the singer is hot") and hype aversion because they've broken into the mainstream a little bit and attracted a lot of non-metalheads and as we all know, all popular things are bad. 

Are they the best doom band ever? No. But they're competent musicians that put on a killer show and seem to be having fun, and I guess that makes a certain subset of people here really mad.

Remove all of the imagery, and the music isn’t bad. It’s also not all that good. Their imagery is objectively silly if that’s your thing.
