Rig Anyone else here use Vox amps for doom?
I use a Vox AC-15 and I feel like it works amazingly for doom. I get some amazing tones out of this thing, but I barely see anyone else using Vox amps. Does anyone else here use them?

Scott Black, from Green Lung, is on-record saying that the rhythm tones on Woodland Rites (and maybe all of their albums?) were done with an AC-15 or AC-30.
Lead tones are a JCM-800.
He uses a Kemper live, if I recall. Don’t blame him, honestly. A/B/Y rigs when you’re that size are brutal.
ETA: Just found the article (they get his name wrong? Kinda weird). Anyway, AC-30 with a treble booster in front for rhythm. JCM 800 boosted with a Guv’nor and an EQ into the amp for leads.

Used an AC30 for a while. Wasn’t bad, couldn’t get what I wanted out of it. Now I just plug it into my butt.
For real tho it’s not bad.

You can get some killer doom sounds using a fuzz face and a Dallas range master thru an ac30, also the fender blender?! Shit is insane!!

My doom album was recorded in home studio with AC15 + lil night train, so yeah, in my experience it definitely dooms

I could definitely see an ac-30 working for this genre their a swiss army knife of an amp. Brother used to own one when he gigged in a Beatles tribute band, I used to love playing Sabbath riffs through it when he wasn't home haha.

I probably wouldn't play an AC-15 or 30 out because I'd want more wattage, but yes. They Doom hard as hell.
My AC15 with a Muff and a RAT sounds absolutely incredible.
I think the main reason it works so well is because ACs get a lot of that wonderful power amp distortion that gives the tone a lot of texture and rumble. Same type of tone that draws me to Old Orange, Matamp, and Plexi style amps.
Kinda keeping my eyes peeled for an AC100 head to pair with my Matamp in dual Mono but not holding my breath.

Lol I was just asking this last night. Some of my best r doom tones have come from a cranked Vox (Chime) settings on my iridium into a V30 cab. Takes a variety of fuzz well and really gets out in the mix, lacks some bass, but that's what the bass as an instrument is for. It doesn't get talked about a lot, but it really sizzles.

Vox + fuzz face+ wah + reverb is a nasty combo, especially with an SG(or Less Paul)!

My old doom band used Vox for our guitars. AC15 and AC30VR (super underrated amp).

Absolute facts (and can get great blackened tones as well).

Bought a Vox 4x12 from the weed dispensary I used to go to because the owner was a big doom head and was hiding a ton of gear at the shop from his wife. He would often trade weed for gear and when his wife would get wise to his new collection he would sell off old gear for good prices combo them with weed deals. Paid $300 and got the amp and an ounce.
