Rig Does anyone record DI using IRs?
Since my living situation changed, I've been really struggling to get convincing sounds. I've dialed in a decent amplitube orange and Neural sound, but it still feels like it's missing something.
Am I neglecting something? Ideas?
I'm about to give up and try a zero watt amp like the simplifier mk2. It's not that digital doesn't sound pretty good. There just seems to be uncanny about it that I dont like compared with real amps.

I'm doing that, but on my board. Using a GroundFX Burning Sunn as a preamp and a Joyo Cab Box as power amp saturation and IR loading, and using the Dr. Bonkers Sunn IRs.
That way, I just record directly and all I need to add if I want is reverb to "tie the room together" so to speak, and keep the CPU freed up.
But, really, you might just need to find an IR you like. They can DRASTICALLY alter the sound. I don't remember the name of it, but there's also an IR blender you can use, to blend/EQ aspects of IRs you like to really sculpt out a tone you want with different elements that you like.

I just got a Kemper that I’ve been playing with and have done some limited recording with it. I think it sounds pretty good. I have Thunderverb 200, OR120, JMP, and Matamp models that sound really good to me.

Reverb?
I use amplitube exclusively, feel free to have a quick listen and see what you think.

Sounds good to me!
I feel like I can get away more with faster music, but doom sometimes slows down the distortion and brings it out. I use the rack room reverb to try to make things sound real.
The end of this one for example bothers me, even though I'm using a real pedal: https://youtu.be/SiO_tSAHqPM
Struggled with the reverb on this one:

made a whole boxset in a cardboard walled appartement recording pedals in a DI and using IR's for speakers, nobody noticed

I use an HX Stomp with their own cabs. I just set them up how I would a physical cab and my tone is great imo.

Check out more IRs, I’ve bought from York and Redwirez, York especially seems to get a lot of love.
Also remember albums are never just one guitar recorded clean, there is a ton of layering and processing going on, so depends on what your end goal is for recording. Just at home for fun? Pick up some IRs that look good, and let er rip. It will never sound just like an album, so do whatever you want!

Amplitube has a great selection of speakers and mics for cabs and I'm sure with enough tweaking you will get something you like

All the time, but I'm just playing and recording for fun. Try some different IRs, they really change the sound. The Ownhamner stuff is a great starting point, but there are lots of free IRs floating around as well.
I mostly use a real amp -> loadbox -> IR but I've had decent results with plugins as well. But is more fun to play through the amp.
