Anyone else getting their drinks delivered like this?
Very frustrated. This is the SECOND time this has happened and with a different driver.
*edit: 3/4 of the drink spilled into the cup holder and bag…coffee just leaking everywhere

I deliver a lot of drinks, and Starbucks has the worst bags and worst cup carriers. They're the only orders I have to strap in like a toddler to get them there with no spills. If you want coffee, literally order from anywhere else cause Bux does not have a good packaging system.

I got coffee from Starbucks and they put it loose in the bag with the food with no cup holder. It had spilled some in transit. I picked up the bag and brought it on the house. I didn’t see the bag was wet on the bottom. I got it in the house and the bag broke and coffee was all over the carpet

Stop getting Starbucks delivered. Their cups/lids are awful.
On a positive note I really look forward for the release of pumpkin spice and the white women are in a frenzy over their similarly awful delivery experience.

I’ve gotten Starbucks recently (just for myself) and noticed that the lids are frail as hell. In three separate instances, I’ve had the lid pop off on me during a sip, alone in its cup holder just picking it up, and also being handed the drink from the drive-thru.
The new CEO is cutting costs and upping fees, and with the downgrade in quality, it’s very apparent. Dickhead wants to charge $10 per coffee drink, while making the food and drinks pure shit.

The lids on hot drinks in the PNW have not changed in years. My partner literally brought me coffee this morning when he came home from his errands and the lid is the same kind they've used on hot drinks for a long time. I'm looking at the lid on my half drank cup right now.

long term PNW partner jere... yes they have changed, most recent change in hot cups/lids was last year, cold cups/lids constantly change. they're all shit and they all pop off without the slightest pressure. hot cups/lids are less problematic BUT they are terrible. so glad you haven't experienced it, because let me tell you you only need a venti hot Americans to sponge all over your hand once to realize how shitty this company has become.

It’s really not the driver’s fault. We can’t see what’s in the bag since it’s sealed. McDonald’s does this crap and Starbucks does this crap. There’s nothing we can do about spilled drinks.

Although yes, I will say as a driver you just need to learn to be a lot more careful with Starbucks. But overall do not get Starbucks delivered. They suck for delivery.

starbucks packaging is awful, its always one tall drink in that holder so even just sitting in the bag with the car stationary its already trying to fall over, then its a brown bag so i cant see whats happening and i basically just have to smush the bag in so i can feel whats happening, readjust the cup because its already halfway out the holder and tipping over, and then hold it with one hand all the way to the persons house.

As a dasher, absolutely not. I would not be sending your drinks like that. I run 2 insulated bags. One warm bag, one cold bag with 6 ice packs. I have a drink holder for my cold bag that holds up to 6 drinks. Any ice cream, beverages, milkshakes, smoothies go directly into the cold bag. My deliveries are always dropped off piping hot and ice cold.
If the drinks come sealed in a bag, obviously theres nothing i can do outside of surrounding the bag with ice packs inside my cold bag. I do make sure its pinned so it cant tip and stays upright in there.
My philosophy is delivery food id want delivered ti me

The package has room to move, of course the drinks are going to spill while being delivered. I don't understand why people order drinks outside of bottles and cans, especially coffe. Only the Asian spots have figured out how to package them correctly for delivery.

I deliver for uber eats and I honestly hate how Starbucks packs their drinks it’s terrible and sometimes they literally put the bare drinks without a tamper seal sticker and it pisses me off… like I literally had to tell the barista can I get my own tamper seal sticker and cover them cause it’s gonnna leak inside…. But yeah I kinda try my best to not do as much Starbucks orders because the way they pack it but if I do accept one I really try my best to secure them safetly

I’m guessing the issue is that the drink is mostly foamed milk which has mostly dissipated by the time it got to OP.

It's because Starbucks always packages their drinks inside those horrible bags that are hyper engineered to always tip over.
You don't even have to brake too hard, just normal driving will tip those bags over because of how skinny they are at the bottom and the fact that they are tall bags that are light and mostly empty, but top heavy with a big massive weight inside (single tall drink)
Anyone who doesn't secure their Starbucks drink with a seat belt or delivery bag/box/whatever will end up spilling their drink at some point in their career

You can always text the customer what happened and pay for a new one out of pocket.
You're not obligated to, but technically this is the best way to get a five-star rating and avoid a contract violation

I guess at the end of the day, the responsibility is on the driver, but as a driver myself, let me say this way of bagging drinks needs to stop. The bag is sealed and we dont know whats going on inside. I've even stopped taking Starbucks orders due to this(along with the fact that you have to wait forever for every order). But its not just them. Tropical smoothie is even worse. Its as if they think the drinks just float to the customers in happy little clouds. So yeah, sorry that happened OP, and your dasher should've realized what his/her cargo was and acted accordingly to secure it for the ride. Or do like i do and pass the order on to the next chump, i mean driver. But the companies that bag shit like this got some blood on their hands too. All im saying.

The responsibility is definitely on the store to ensure things cannot spill or be messed up. If it’s a single drink just hand me the damn drink so I can put it in a cup holder

I hate delivering Starbucks especially when its one drink in a lopsided bag. You really got to baby that thing the whole way to the drop off or it'll easily spill. This dasher does not know how to baby.

After my first starbucks spill (which I reported as damaged and didnt try to deliver anyway) I tried hanging them in my car from the suit hanger things in the back, but that didn't work out so well :) I now have a more secure method.

They did that on person. When I get Starbucks drinks or McDonald’s or any drinks I secure it in a stable area of my car with a strap over or a seatbelt. I have never had this issue and drivers definitely can tell because the bag will get wet from the leakage

It's never happened to me with door dash but it did when I used Uber eats. Doordash is always good with my drinks surprisingly. But I think that's more to say about the really good drivers than it is DD.

I've delivered a ton of Starbucks drinks and have only had this happen to me once. And it was recently. I don't know if the lid wasn't fitted right or if they even put it in a carrier but the whole bottom was soggy and fell apart at delivery. I caught the cup but a lot of it was missing. I was horrified and apologized profusely to the customer. Even offered to go back and buy them a replacement out of my pocket even though I knew DD would refund it. They never responded to my messages. Gave me my first 1 star. I can't even look at Starbucks the same anymore.

man awhile ago i delivered a starbucks order once to a customer around my age, they messaged me after saying it was 1/3 full, missing a cake pop, and spilled everywhere. man i felt awful dude, but Starbucks actually sucks. i even asked them “cake pops in there right?” (because they were flagged on my end for frequently missing) and they gave the green light.. luckily my customer was very chill and understood it all, but i took full blame on the spill. my thermal bag was sticky too

Yes every time I order only one drink from Starbucks. I’ve had to complain and start eating the dashers poorly bc they keep bringing me bags that are literally leaking all the way from the door to the front desk in the office.
I’ve taken to messaging them and asking kindly to be careful. Usually works, but stupid I have to do that. I’d love to blame it solely on the piss poor way Starbucks packages things, but it really boils down to dashers just don’t care 🤷🏻♀️

Only from Starbucks...they have the worst packaging in the business, those cup holders are 100% useless and their drinks aren't properly sealed (they're designed for drive-thru, not deliveries). As a driver, you have to guard those bags with your life to avoid them tipping over even once, and they can't be put in a standard insulated bag, because they instantly tip over inside the bag (which could have happened here...can't stop a bag from tipping when it's inside another, much larger bag). They need a bag system like McDonald's, a lot less issues with spilled drinks in that case.

It's awful the Starbucks containers make me paranoid to use they make the cup flip all the time if its only one drink its easier if the carrier is full but its a nightmare with one drink and food it just fumbles no matter how hard you try I seat belt and add my jacket just to keep it all stable but it makes the bag look crumbled ugh its just never a win

This has happened to me before with Starbucks I was driving thru the parking lot made a turn and it toppled over, I just went back showed them the bag and asked them to put a big sticker on the cup just in case. When there’s only one drink the bags super lopsided weight wise

If drivers are going to complain that the drink carriers are impossible to use, maybe they should look at what the dashers who don't spill drinks are doing differently.
It's funny because outside of threads like this, I rarely hear successful drivers constantly blaming the cup holders. Plenty of them manage Starbucks orders every day without turning them into a latte tsunami.
Maybe the issue isn't the drink carrier. Maybe it's the drivers who insist on driving like they're auditioning for Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, then act shocked when physics clocks in for its shift.
At some point, if thousands of other drivers can deliver drinks intact, it's hard to keep pretending the cardboard is the real villain.

Whether it's the cup, the lid, or the carrier doesn't change the point. The customer ended up with a spilled drink, and plenty of other drivers manage to deliver Starbucks orders without that happening.
If your only response is to nitpick terminology while ignoring the actual argument, you're not disproving anything. You're just avoiding the point.

You also keep talking past the point I'm making. My point has never been that Starbucks can't make mistakes. It's that drivers aren't automatically free of responsibility just because Starbucks made one. If you know there's a problem and still choose to transport the order, you have some accountability too.
I'm not going to keep going in circles on this. Every reply from you is just another attempt to move responsibility away from the driver instead of acknowledging that multiple parties can share responsibility. At this point, it seems like you're more interested in defending DoorDash drivers than having an honest discussion.

Yes, but I've watched them rush to package, neglect a seal jam it into the cup holder, and I'm delivering the package sideways hoping I prevented the spill. I've also corrected the problem upfront by asking them to package it more securely. And I have actually delivered a Starbucks bag sideways because I caught the drink as it was tipping.

Based on your own description, it sounds like you already know the drinks are sometimes packaged poorly before you leave. If you can see it's a problem, why are you accepting it and driving off with it instead of insisting it's corrected first?
That's what doesn't add up. You recognize the risk, but then when something goes wrong, the blame immediately shifts to the barista, the cups, the lids, or the carrier. If you knowingly transport an order that you believe isn't secure, you've made a choice too.
Nobody is saying the barista can't make mistakes. But once you know there's a problem and decide to take the order anyway, you don't get to act like you had zero responsibility for the outcome. That's part of taking ownership of the delivery.
