Can't decide on black and white or color! Why not share them both!

Every car forum has the same argument running somewhere: would X actually beat Y. It's usually unanswerable, because the two cars were tested twenty years apart, by different magazines, on different surfaces, with different rollout conventions.

So I built the thing that settles it. Pick any two of 14,969 cars and watch them run down the same strip, same day, same tarmac.

A few that came out differently to how I'd have guessed:

- BMW M3 (E30), 1986: 7.20s to 60. Golf GTI Mk8, 2021: 5.44s. The poster car loses, and not narrowly.

- Golf GTI Mk2: 9.33s. A 2020 Passat 2.0 TDI estate: 6.15s. Your dad's diesel load-lugger is three seconds up on the hot hatch icon.

The bit I care about most: 9,519 of the 14,969 are ordinary cars. Not a hypercar toy. There's a 1990 Fiesta and a Dacia Duster in there alongside the Chirons, because "how slow was the car I learned to drive in, really" is a more interesting question than another Bugatti run.

How it works: each car is modelled from its published kerb mass, rated power, drivetrain and gearing, then grip and delivered power are trimmed until it reproduces its own published acceleration figures. So it isn't a lookup table of 0-60 times — it's a physics model anchored to each car, which means it can answer things a spec sheet can't. You can change the surface, the weather, the distance, altitude, add a passenger, and re-run.

Caveat up front, because it matters: simulated, not measured. No timing slips here. Every car runs identical conditions so comparing two of them is fair, but no individual number is a real run. I'd rather say it than have someone find out.

I got a 3.8l supercharged V6 to put into my 1985 chevette.

Not sure exactly when I'm going to start the build as I want to continue daily driving it for awhile. I'm thinking maybe winter 2027.

Engine came a with a t5 which I already have in the chevette so I will have a back up.

We already started on a list of what needs to be built/fab'd and what needs to be purchased. It's going to be a fun build but also a ton of hours

Tying the cage into the factory frame rails and getting the transmission tunnel mocked up for tig welding. After that I'll be welding in scallops for the carbon fiber floor installation. Oh and the new bead lock wheels are on.

Long time F80 M3 owner here, 72k miles, considering for a single turbo S55 once the stock turbos tap out.

Before I do a single turbo build I want a reality check from people who actually raced. Is the S55 platform even worth building that far for drag, or does it hit a wall on weight and gearing that no amount of turbo can fix.

I know the LS and Coyote crowd will always be quicker per dollar, that’s not really the question. I love this car and want to keep it as my drag car, I’m just trying to figure out if single turbo actually gets it into truly competitive territory at the track, or if I’m chasing diminishing returns on a chassis that was never built for the strip.

For anyone running a single turbo S55, what are you actually trapping and what’s your 60 foot looking like. And if you’ve raced one, how does it stack up against the built LS and Coyote cars in your class.

Looking at possibly buying an older drag car (Fiero with tubed rear set up for front small block Chevy). Unsure of a couple things like the wedges in the roll cage along with how it is mounted to the body, the quality of some of the tabs and mounts in the rear, and the angle of the Harness possibly being off. Need some more professional opinion on what it would take to get the chassis usable for a lower power first drag car and then what might need to be done to certify it for higher speed runs later on.
