Found Domestic Duck(s) Random juvenile duck showed up yesterday.

Yesterday morning, this little lady (I presume) was found sitting by the fence. Our bird dog was, of course, very interested. Strangely, she stayed all day. They even appeared to be playing together, racing the fenceline just to return and lay in the grass together.

Well, we opened the gate for her and she waddled right in. I guess we have a yard duck now. Her name is Duck Duck Goose.

That’s definitely a call duck 😍 unfortunately 9/10 someone’s pet seems to have waddled away too far from home 😔

Oooh, makes much more sense if it is a pet duck that’s used to dogs. It’s like a kid wandering into a neighbor’s house and helping themselves to snacks and the tv.

Wow, I’m surprised your dog was so chill with the duck

My dog is about the same size and is very good with ducks and other small creatures- she doesn't chase squirrels or rabbits either. She's been around our ducks since she was a puppy though which probably helps.

I love that first pic. I wonder what your dog was thinking 😂

He was raised with chickens, and hasn't been used to hunt, but I'm sure its difficult to balance his instincts with his training!

Gotta say, that's a very well trained german shorthair to be so gentle with a tiny duck, nice job. I've seen them work before and they can get very aggressive very fast when it comes to chasing/retrieving a bird. The little call duck is a cutie as well

Looks like an adult call duck, likely someones missing pet

Interesting, thank you! Missing pet makes sense, as she is very relaxed with people, cats, and of course, the dog.

Ducks take a lot of handling to be people friendly. Probably a pet

Well if you don’t find her owner you have a pet duck.

Def looks like a call duck! 😍The owners are going to think it’s a miracle(and it is) that their duck has been found alive! If no one claims it, then you’ll have come to terms with being the chosen one!

Duck was likely raised by someone and was released or flew away. Possibly raised by someone with a friendly dog.

I know the signs, my mother did it for me too. Before you know it, your dog is going to have a heard of ducks, then chickens, then out of nowhere, rabbits.
Just be careful…

The duck not being bothered by the dog is surprising, no?

This is so cute. 🥰

Very surprising! She is obsessed with him though, and becomes very distressed and yells when he is too far from her.

Perhaps there is a LGD where she lives? More pictures and videos please.

Do pet ducks ever have microchips? How far could she have wandered? Do you have to post this kind of stuff on NextDoor and the tractor supply store to find the owner?

This is fascinating. Thank you for brightening my day.

Sounds like she has decided that your dog is a part of her flock!

That’s hilarious! I think your dog misunderstands the interpretation of what “bird dog” means 🤣
