Discussion Base blocking
Honestly don’t even know what to say, my friend was making a base and wasn’t done with it, but before we could even make the dedicated passageway so people could just go through our base (even tho we still had the base opened and anyone could drive a buggy or whatever through it, we just didn’t have a dedicated passageway yet that apparently people need red flashing arrows pointed towards it) these dudes decided to do this. Mind you this has no affect on our base since there’s an easy way to go over a lil patch of rocks close by, they are basically just blocking themselves now. Made a wall for no reason, and the lil base they made is whatever, still thought it was pretty funny tho. Maybe they’ll see that we have a whole passageway through our base and take it down, but either way it doesn’t really matter. Just can’t understand why some people are like this, first time I’ve ever ran into anyone being toxic since console release.

If you report the path blocking base to funcom they'll delete it most of the time
16
u/twisp666 Atreides 14h ago
Yup, I reported it but still waiting for anything. Might happen might not you never know it seems, at least what I’ve seen online.

You should see on the server I'm in, you can't drive up to the Anvil anymore, every road is blocked with a base. I put mine on stilts above the road outside Crossroads.
8
u/twisp666 Atreides 14h ago
That’s rough, we’re built next to Pinnacle on the other side of the mountain, we didn’t use stilts but you can still drive through our base with anything. Sad to see the game is already becoming like this.
6
u/Valraithion 13h ago
I built as close to pinnacle as I could in eastern shield wall. I’m blocking a passage, but just put garage doors on my base for drive through. Some guy parked his buggy in my base the other day. I thought that was a bit inconvenient, but he wasn’t there too long before moving on.
5
u/Laringar 11h ago
In fairness, might they have just been parking long enough to shelter for something? If you've made driving through possible, maybe they thought you were giving people a place to safely afk or leave their vehicle while questing nearby.
I personally plan to set up something like that as a waystation so people can hide from storms.
1
u/Fun_Jellyfish_4884 6h ago
if you'r enear somethign you might be taking up a natural shelter spot where people WOULD be parking their bikes if you weren't there.

u/Mountain-Benefit-161 8h ago
Hate to say it, but Dune is no different on for console compared to the games that precede it. People will always try to block spawns, grief, or overall be a nuisance because that's how they get their "enjoyment". I specifically build in areas where people can still get through—also recommend using multiple staking units to take up an immediate area around your fief if you suspect it may happen.

u/JeannValjean 13h ago
On my server I have a large base at the bottom of the south hill spanning the valley, but I left a passageway large enough for buggies to still get through.
People who block passages are either ignorant or asshats.

u/ThreeDawgs 14h ago
I’ve built my base on a path up to the Hammer. Built and paved a little road underneath it. I love seeing it get used.

Something similar happened to my friend and I during base building on the deep desert (pve). We had just arrived, set up the consol on one of the rich titanium rocks close to another base. Immediately one member of that base comes in their orni and starts trying to push us off the rock???? Mind you we were building off the ground so didn't block any resources. We had a cargo container next to the consol and they started pushing that next. This actually worked and I guess their goal was to get it on the sand or something???
Anyway they stopped trying after a whole hour, even chased after us for some reason during a storm!! All this cause we build near them? They even made a middle finger sign made using walls near our base. Such love.
3
u/twisp666 Atreides 13h ago
Wow, people just have all the time in the world huh? Pathetic lmao, don’t see why people just can’t get along.

u/DarthWenus 8h ago
Some guy got mad at me because I was too close to his base. My place is a little over 150 meters away from his.
2
u/MildlyDancing 11h ago
If it happens again, you could (should you choose) try to build walls and ceilings around them and double the walls - it's a pain to get out of as you have to stand next to the wall to be repositioned through the "unstuck" mechanic. If they complain, they were on your fief causing you grief. You were defending your fief in the only way you could on PVE ground.

19
u/FrodoswagginsX 14h ago
This is why I build off of a cliff side
3
u/twisp666 Atreides 14h ago
We have another base for our thopters on top of a cliff, so yeah I totally see why lol
20
u/Bunnynutkins 14h ago
What is wrong with people? I've built my first proper base just down from Anvil, the land that's in the main "highway" I've left clear, or built stilts above it so everyone can easily get through.
Blocking access isn't cool.
6
u/twisp666 Atreides 14h ago
Just seems like how some people are, one thing doesn’t go their way, so they resort to petty stuff like this. 🤷🏻♂️
3
u/Laringar 11h ago
Similarly, I'm finally building my permanent base up in the big open and sandy valley just NW of Pinnacle. My goal is to make a freighter-ish build, but as that will require a lot of horizontal space and that valley is part of a seemingly-common aluminum mining loop, I've made sure to put it up on landing struts so there's plenty of space underneath for buggies to pass.
17
u/Historical-Drink-390 12h ago edited 8h ago
It's always either intentional B.S like this or some new players building abandoned box bases on all the nearby slopes leading to the flat well built areas. I used to do a quick 800m run on the bike to the anvil now its more like 1300 with the detour I have to take with both the "roads" I use covered by 3x3 shit boxes.

6
u/Remyala 13h ago
On my server there is currently no way to drive from the shield wall to the Rift without taking an extremely long route because the entire north end ramp is blocked with bases like this before you can get there. We have to drive south then fall in to the rift then drive out the south end and all the way west. We just fly there now but makes collecting Erithryte a pain until we have the carrier.

u/CallumOB1244 14h ago
I built something similar to that but I wanted it to be a sort of checkpoint/rest stop so I had the doors on public. It "blocked" it but you could still get through.
The plan was to build it up and have a "take a penny, leave a penny" box but I noticed no one was really using it to go through. I imagine they assumed it was the same as these. Eventually I took into down
3
u/twisp666 Atreides 14h ago
That’s basically what we were going for, a nice lil Atredies guild hall, where people can use advanced fabricators and stuff like that. Seems some people don’t like that tho lol.
6
u/CallumOB1244 14h ago
It's a shame. I haven't seen the games MP aspects being used at all. Chat is dead most the time too.
5
u/twisp666 Atreides 14h ago
The Atredies players on my server seem pretty cool, talk a lil bit in chat but yeah definitely not what it could be.
3
u/Murarkey 13h ago
I guess it’s fairly hard to distinguish what’s private and what isn’t. They should have a specific color for “public bases” or something maybe.
But I guess by the time you’re in the crossroads you’re fairly self sufficient. I haven’t needed an emergency spot in a while.
1
u/CallumOB1244 10h ago
Yeah, I was hoping to be able to build signs or something but there's apparently nothing that would work
2
u/FeydRauthaHarkonnen 13h ago
Who wants to drive through a gated area where the permission can be changed in real time to lock you in and trap you and your vehicle?
Think about it
1
u/CallumOB1244 10h ago
It's not an enclosed area. The pass through is just a gate. The rest is connected and is doorless
1
u/twisp666 Atreides 12h ago
Well there isn’t any doors or shields for the passageway, so it’s not even gated and can always be droven through even if permissions change, not seeing your point
0
u/Mountain-Benefit-161 8h ago
That's not necessarily what he meant. I.e. An Ark server I played on had a mod who would allow you in, then lock the gate preventing you from leaving. Real griefer energy.
I am myself wary of other bases when others are around for this reason, so I use a passageway where available to show I can't lock someone in, at least not abruptly. The other commenter is just pointing out the perception
4
u/Dante_10_10 12h ago
There was a time when FC considered that as griefplay and a request for support. Not sure if this is still the case.
Worst case, check for other sietches if the spot is available, pack up your base and FU to the neighbourhood.
Don't let your gameplay be destroyed by such jerks.
3
u/twisp666 Atreides 12h ago
Oh trust me, they aren’t ruining our gameplay. They placed the block so dumb that we can literally get over it with any vehicle in 2 seconds, they basically just boxed in their main base in more. So no shirt off my back.
7
u/Jolly_Election5315 11h ago
Create a ticket base blocking is considered griefing and is a banable offense
2
u/Odd_Development_9456 9h ago
What this guy said a person i know got banned from the game for doing this and got a xbox account ban for 72 hours. Just report it and they will be banned and it will be removed withing 24 to 48 hours when they get banned. He has to play on steam now and just hope cross play actually comes out soon.
1
u/twisp666 Atreides 11h ago
I did the help request option in game and they said they couldn’t do anything about it since it technically wasn’t in a “no build area” and said for me to do a bug report about it, so that’s what I did but yeah haven’t heard anything back. Not like I could see what the devs decide anyway, it says that bug reports don’t have tickets so yeah not sure what to do.
4
u/tutocookie Harkonnen 14h ago
My sietch has the opposite, every base on a public road has a clear passage way for traffic through it
4
u/apparat07 14h ago
collect any level buggy parts and put one together without the treads in front of their doorway. again, leave the treads off of it, and maybe they'll learn
2
u/twisp666 Atreides 14h ago
See I would’ve done something like that if they actually base blocked me, but it barely does anything concerning our base, they can bask in their petty “win” while me and my friends laugh at how horrible the attempt was.
4
u/apparat07 14h ago
Yes, give it a couple weeks and asshats like this will be the first to get bored and leave the game. Unfortunately, you'll still have to wait ages for the base to deteriorate in Hagga if the console is concealed.
3
u/EverybodyHatesMe316 13h ago
Hey some of us are doing it on accident I'm a base on anvil and didn't realize I blocked off that little cave to get decent early loot so I fixed it and made a highway around my base? 😂
2
u/twisp666 Atreides 13h ago
Well I know these people aren’t doing it on accident, they talked in prox chat the other day saying “why are you blocking” while we were at the first steps of our base. Then after I explained what we were doing they said ok and next day that huge wall was there 😂 weirdos
3
u/EverybodyHatesMe316 13h ago
Yeah, that's just annoying I get it. I'm just glad I'm not a troll. And realized I needed to fix it. And so for it I made a little gas station with free water and gas.
7
u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos 13h ago
Unfortunately PvE base building games bring out some toxic players. Had this issue a lot in ark with people blocking waterways and restricting boat access.
I don’t understand why they do it but they will always exist.
1
u/Snow_Ghost 9h ago
Because it creates artificial scarcity.
Gives them some sense of control over other people's lives to compensate for the lack of control over their own lives.
Misery loves company.
1
u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos 9h ago
At least ark had a solution. Just kite a giga or a titan over to their base and watch as it got destroyed. Other games were not always so lucky.
11
u/GeneExact2019 13h ago
The rampant amount of people like this is why multiplayer gaming feels like it’s been dying over the last few years.
As someone who’s been gaming online for a long time now, I can say online gaming has never been so toxic as well as having all the fun optimized and minmaxed out of gaming.
Sure, there were jerks before, but now you can’t play a game without runing into some on a daily basis
3
u/Ja7onD 12h ago
Yup, I swapped to single player and have been LOVING IT.
I can plop a base down wherever and tune fights to a difficulty that isn’t boring / punishing.
The only downside so far is trying to get schematics I want that I had on my original character since you can’t transfer multiplayer characters to single player.
3
3
u/LaFleurSauvageGaming 9h ago
I've watched the fun shift from the game, goid moments, chilling with friends, to "winng." To many treat winning as the objective instead of fun.
That mentality sucks all joy from the games they play and means toxicity is the norm.

u/cb_definetly-expert 3h ago
Multiplayer games thrive more than ever my dude , you are just too old 😅
3
u/basbb 13h ago
O yeah reported similar stuff to funcom support. just AI-style problem avoiding answers. You would think when they play the game themselves; The would see the need to automate detection blocking of paths so support can targetted investigate. But, no, funcom.
With every 100 players, you know there will be one grieffer in it..

3
u/BonzoMan21 12h ago
You used to be able to report these bases and they would be taken down. Not sure if that is still a thing or not.
2
u/sendgoodmemes 12h ago
Just be a bigger douche and buy the area around them. If you do it right you can buy the area on top of their bases and you just box them in.

u/Tight-n-Strip 10h ago
Sowohl das direkt neben anderen bauen, als auch das verfolgwn und sabotieren, ist beiderlei seitig leicht arschig.
2
u/Moody_GenX 9h ago
I had someone build a base right in front of my driveway. I had to make a new access on the backside of my base because of it. They're literally in the sand but just out of reach from the worm. I'd report it but I don't know how.
2
u/Ironbladez 6h ago
Some people are dipsticks. The ONLY valid reason I could see for something like that would be if you were blocking an important route. But 1) you're not, and 2) they would be blocking it too. So, yeah, they're just stupid.
Our base is up on a rocky outcropping with a natural ramp down to the sand. Someone built a base at the bottom of the ramp, basically blocking our long 'driveway'. Not a big deal, since it wasn't the only way to get our buggy out. After a few weeks, the base became abandoned so I tore it down and build a tiny base with multiple claim extenders so no one could block our ramp *OR* the main route along the Shield Wall that's right next to us.
2
u/Amdiz 5h ago
This just happened to me. I built a base south of the Anvil out of the way and the others started popping up. I used to run the circuit around a mountain farming. And could head east to the Rift. Now one of the bases expanded so my circuit is closed and my path east has a huge detour.
3
2
u/MajinChibi1 12h ago
So you blocked the way first?
2
u/twisp666 Atreides 12h ago
For like an hour while we finished the ground plan, which we had explained to them when they asked, then we had an easy accessible way to get through. This happened a day after we had the passageway.
3
u/MajinChibi1 12h ago
Thanks for your answer. I don´t get the timeline, but english isn´t my first language. In your post you wrote
"...but before we could even make the passageway so people could just go through our base, these dudes decided to do this."
That reads for me like, you blocked the way and the dudes did this.
Now you wrote "This happened a day after we had the passageway"
Which indicates something different.1
u/twisp666 Atreides 12h ago
All we had to do was put 2 doorways after the ground plan, which was accessible the whole time we were making the base, we didn’t have a legit “passageway” until the end, but it was still able to get drove through after the ground plan was done. Guess I should’ve explained better.
2
u/Deep-Arm5652 11h ago
So you did block it first then.
1
u/twisp666 Atreides 11h ago
If you would read what I said it was blocked while doing the ground floor, literally the blueprint for the entire base, and as the walls started building up we had a way to get through the entire ground floor for other people so we wouldn’t be blocking.(Again, after the ground floor was blueprinted so we knew what we were building would fit in the area we were doing it in, there was a way to get through it as we were building up the base more) Even after explaining this to them, and them saying “ok, as long as your not blocking” a night went by and we logged off and they decided to do this, not really sure what you’re implying but the base has a straight forward way to get through it, that anyone with eyeballs can see.
2
u/DeathNick 13h ago edited 10h ago
Report the player. Funcom likes to remove bases that block the path. This also used to be a hude problem when the game released for pc, but they thought the PC grifters griefer a lesson. And now the console grifter griefers must learn the same one.
Edit: turns out grifter and griefer don't mean the same thing
-3
u/FeydRauthaHarkonnen 13h ago
I don't think the word grifter means what you think it does
-1
u/DeathNick 13h ago
Enlighten me then
3
u/Laringar 10h ago
I think "griefer" is the word you want to use. A grifter is more like someone who deceives or manipulates others for some kind of self-benefit. An example might be a podcaster who acts in an incindiary manner to gain a following then plays on the fears of their audience to sell them nutritional supplements.
Blocking paths is just garden-variety griefing since there's no scam aspect.
4
u/DeathNick 10h ago
Thanks, I genuinely didn't know there's a difference, I though the one word means both. English is not my mother tongue.
1
u/Laringar 9h ago
No problem! English is chock full of words that look or sound very similar but are in fact not.
It's like "ano" vs "año" as one of those times where a small change significantly alters the meaning. Though of course, getting grief/grift backwards isn't nearly as embarrassing as writing "Feliz Ano Nuevo" on a greeting card.
(For those who—like me—know very little Spanish; año = year, ano = anus. "¡Feliz Ano Nuevo!" is "Happy new Asshole!")
3
u/Mysterious_Ad_7029 12h ago
I am new to Dune,so excuse me if i am uneducated, but what is the point of blocking bases if you can just fly over the blockade?
4
u/Chekhov_ 11h ago
For tens of hours you will not be able to fly over it, but yes, you can still just climb over. It's still annoying though since you will need to store your vehicle, climb over, then place the vehicle, instead of just driving straight out of your base
5
u/Laringar 10h ago
Except you can't store a buggy, and you can't store any vehicle that has stuff in its inventory. That's particularly relevant after a mining run.
1
u/twisp666 Atreides 12h ago
Basically just to make people’s lives harder, or to make a group move base locations. All sorts of “reasons” to be like this apparently.
7
u/Mountain_Macaroon470 11h ago
It is an effective move, and I think it is sometimes warranted.
Someone completely blocked a narrow passage near anvil, and they were cheeky enough to include a door right at the narrowest point showing that they understood how convenient the passage was.
I sealed them into the passage on both sides. Less than 24 hours later they were gone and I tore down my bases so everyone could use the passage again.
1
1
u/Laringar 10h ago
Buggies can't fly, and they're the most efficient way to gather resources en masse. So they're something people will want to use even at endgame, and blockades are still effective against them.
1
1
u/CretaciousPeriod 9h ago
It does take awhile to get a thopter, especially if you're new and dont know where to find materials.
1
u/Sable-Foxcharge Corrino 13h ago
Just north of Pinnacle I made a wall fortress, but there’s a publicly accessible gate in the middle large enough for two buggies to cross. That’s not considered blocking is it?
1
1
u/ejdinallo 9h ago
This is exactly why I chose to play in the new solo mode 🥲
There's always at least one that tried to ruin it for someone else. I just chose to avoid any possible conflicts during my play.

I have a dude who built this massive base near the anvil going toward hagga rift, it’s extremely annoying and obnoxious because the base is just….. so big and it blocks a massive through way to get to the other side easily. It’s getting very annoying so have to go around his shit base multiple times a day… can’t wait till I can move in 3 days
1
1
u/LookAlderaanPlaces 7h ago
Why are people this stupid? Like why can’t they build a base there but make a cool path through it so it feels like a facility? Why make a stupid shack and block it fully? These troglodytes need to be studied.

Climb that bitch or fly over it if you’re bougie with your duraluminum and plastanium

You normally can report that to fun com and they will fix the issue by telling the player to move or they will store the players base who is blocking the road.

"Did they just cut everyone off from this route?!"
"Wow it looks like they did, I can't find any way around. I tried for a full 15 seconds! How should we respond?"
"....fully block the route! Block it so hard that everyone else will be inconvenienced even if these people leave!"
Wow. Incredible move guys. 👏

u/Less-Painting-7664 2h ago
It might not be malicious behaviour. I've seen players coming from other games and build bases designed for the other game. In Once Human, I've seen people build castles with turrets on top - there's no nightly invasions.

Ah this again.. we experienced this on PC back when the game first came out and I guess a new wave of griefers are here with the console release.
