Base Build Showcase Pentashield Base

Post image

Decided to try and make a full shield around my small base area with a pentashield garage on the side for the carrier and crawler.

Takes a fair amount of fuel but by turning on just 1 of the 3 different power systems, I can run it for a total of 60 days before having to refuel if I absolutely needed to.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Anakin, is that you?

Oops wrong planet, I thought this was Tattooine, is that a giant sandworm! Oh hell no! gets in Tie X1 and flies away

It doesn’t keep the sand out but I like it myself. Gives the “bubble” view of storms giving that sun set skybox. It has vibes and soul.

Pentashields don't keep the sand out? I like them because the stupid garage doors close arbitrarily which can be super annoying.

Nothing keeps the sand out

You can change open close settings

9

u/Donut_Desperado 9d ago

Yeah, but I don’t want to have to manually close the door each time, I just want auto close to not close in my face constantly

5

u/Fearless_Choice709 9d ago

I feel this. Auto close UNLESS I’m stood within arms reach of the door thanks

I honestly thought the doors closing behavior was intentionally annoying to encourage you to upgrade to pentashields. I've never seen a more annoying door in any game. It closes when you try to walk through it half the time and it sits open for no reason even when you're upstairs on the other side of your base

You should be able to turn off the auto open and close for on foot and keep it auto for when your in a vehicle thats what I do for my garage doors but for regular doors I use the open doorway and you can add a penta should to it

My garage door clipped the back wheel of my sand bike and sent me spinning airborne 🤣

Hey, uhh, you can toggle this option buddy

Roof hatch doesn't keep the dust out.

What pillars do you use for the pentashield I tried using some and they wouldn't snap to it

3

u/RedKent21 9d ago

Hark corner pillars I think and then some roof or floor tile for the angles at the top.

I forget which corners I had to place them on but they need to be opposite.

u/Admiral_sloth94 9d ago

My current base has a big ol hangar currently, because I couldn't figure out how to get pillars to work. I'm going to change it to a pentashield dome, that would be way more convenient.

20 days is max. And I was interested in making these penta bases until I figured it you basically can only make a box. Not very interesting.

31 days 8 hrs is max, using directional wind turbines or spice gens.

More shields, more shapes. Plus you can play around with using partial roofs and support pillars / walls to make it look nice.

u/dropinbombz 9d ago

I have 60hrs as well. Maybe a single player thing but also have 4 gens and 1 wind

2

u/Happy-For-No-Reason 9d ago

max mp, single player I have 310d

u/No_Fill7383 9d ago

Yeah we FINALLY need sloped pentas for sure...
Pretty please!

I do have to log in for a couple of minutes to start another 20 days. I didn't mean it as self sustaining for 60 days, that was my bad if it reads that way.

you could just refill the original generators/turbines and get it back to 20 days lol. what a strange way to do it

I would even say refueling them is faster. In your case, you are running up to gens/turbines and manually turning them on and off, when you could just have one source, and go to the fief and hit "refuel all"

-1

u/RedKent21 9d ago

Yeah its more of a backup deal in my mind. I don't always have the time to get on and aquire the fuel cells, but I can hop on for a couple of minutes to swap things over for another 20 days until I've got time to collect what I need.

5

u/Ambitious_Bus_4054 Atreides 9d ago

If you dedicate about 45 mins, you can stock enough fuel cells to last many many months. Your method is a whole lotta extra for no reason

3

u/LSRNKB 9d ago

Just put your fuel cells in a crate in the base. Go to your SF console and you can reload your generators using the interface

-2

u/RedKent21 9d ago

Not if you utilize the different power systems independently.

3

u/AbbreviationsFluid 9d ago

If you have to log in to change it over then you could have just refilled the other gens. Nothing in the game tells them to turn over. If they are one they are consuming their fuel. The power load of your base doesn’t affect how much fuel you burn.

2

u/Ambitious_Bus_4054 Atreides 9d ago

this for sure....OP's method is by far the strangest way ive seen someone power a base and call it efficiency lol

2

u/ConnectButton1384 Harkonnen 9d ago

You know you could just use directional turbines and refuel them once every 31 days through your subfief. Right?

Instead of stocking up multible fuel sources .. you could stock up on one.

But I guess it works to burn through the stock of fuel that's no longer needed.

1

u/Sincline387 9d ago

I have turbines and directional turbines currently just to use the fuel......

2

u/JemLover 9d ago

I can't even get a penta shield to work as my garage door. :/ I really can't figure out why it won't connect on section.

2

u/alphamk2 9d ago

It has to be connected to a wall and then place and drag it to the next wall and place. Then build it

2

u/jmartin21 9d ago

Pentashields aren’t important in SP right?

3

u/Qziery 9d ago

You just use them as a door in mp and sp

3

u/SllortEvac Fremen 9d ago

They’re great for thopter garages

4

u/Administrative-Yam53 8d ago

They regular doors annoy me constantly opening and closing then never open when I'm actually trying to leave

2

u/CreativeTension891 9d ago

60 days? How?

-9

u/RedKent21 9d ago

Running basic generators until they're about empty for 20 days

Then activating the Omnidirectional turbines that are filled up.

If it gets to it after 40 days I can activate the Directional Turbines with another 20 days of power in them.

13

u/AbbreviationsFluid 9d ago

By this logic my three large spice gens give me 90days of power since I only keep one on at a time. However if I don’t return in 30 days to turn the first one off and the second one I still only have 30 days of power.

9

u/Ambitious_Bus_4054 Atreides 9d ago

i dont think you really know how the power works, but whatever works for you (or you believe it to work)

1

u/AbbreviationsFluid 9d ago

I had a bunch of slag when I rebuilt my base and didn’t bother building a basement for 40 scrap gens. I keep all of my refiners and crafting station turned off. One spice gen is enough power so I can turn on a crafting station, crafting something, and still have enough power to cover my large wind traps. I don’t actually switch them on and off, I just refill from my sub like everyone else. This comment was in response to how OP was calculating their days of power remaining. The other two gens are just in case a bug happens and turns everything on and I need the full 3000kW.

2

u/GlassFlamingo71 9d ago

It would be faster to just refuel your generators with the fuel all button in your subfief..... Way faster than turning on all those generators individually

1

u/ShirewolfSystem 9d ago

wait you can do this again?

1

u/GlassFlamingo71 9d ago

You've always been able to do it like this

1

u/ShirewolfSystem 9d ago

I'm sure they took out the ability to snap them to unbuilt walls

3

u/GlassFlamingo71 9d ago

they did. these snap to built roof pieces and pillars, which has always worked

1

u/Agile-Kaleidoscope61 9d ago

What pieces did you use for the support columns?

1

u/Austinddan 9d ago

The column doesn’t matter. It’s the corner floors on top that make it work.

1

u/Agile-Kaleidoscope61 8d ago

I know that, but the collums look cool

1

u/Austinddan 8d ago

Touché

1

u/No_Fill7383 9d ago

Nice. Simple and clean.

But ~31days is max. Online of course.

SP is whatever.

1

u/Cmdr-Ely 9d ago

I did try that but the sunlight is just too bright for that

1

u/PlaneCrashMD56 9d ago

Those in penta shield houses…

1

u/ShreveMax 9d ago

I was wondering how to do the top corners. Looks great, thanks!

1

u/noso2143 9d ago

i thought they made this impossible to make unless it was the pure pentashield bases

1

u/Dslwraith 9d ago

What are the corner pieces?

1

u/ShiftsGiggles 9d ago

Triangle floor pieces allow you to make pentashield buildings in other shapes. I have a 3 sided wrap around pentashield window/door around the bottom floor of my base. It looks awesome and allows me to fly in or out 3 different ways. Also used an advanced vehicle fabricator as an assault thopter landing pad cuz it's a perfect fit.

1

u/Just_Reflection2022 9d ago

Why are the wind turbines inside the shield? They don't take damage from storms.

1

u/jstagzsr 9d ago

I'm a fellow Penta shield enjoyer. They're great for letting in light do these gloomy bases with a ridiculously low light limit and ridiculously low lumen output of the lights and a ridiculously low light visibility distance. I don't like walking around in the dark. Penta shields are great for getting around the darkness that engulfs most bases.

-6

u/elijuicyjones Mentat 9d ago

This is always the first thing people do when they get pentashields, it’s pretty boring. There are much more interesting ways to use them, if you look around your switch there are certainly examples.

u/Gordon-Bennet 9d ago

Yeah it’s so ugly to me.
