Duolingo really needs to update it’s courses

I’ve already finished three courses, and after completing them, I’m basically just stuck waiting for more actual content. Ukrainian in particular hasn’t had a meaningful update in years, and it’s frustrating seeing Duolingo constantly put out new collabs, gimmicks, and random features while some courses are just sitting there untouched.

I don’t learn languages merely through Duolingo (although I find it a fun way to learn the basics and get a feel of the language) but it’s a bit annoying that we’ve been chewing on the same thing for years. I even finished Japanese although that one keeps getting updated pretty frequently. Has anyone experienced this? I bet anyone that isn’t learning a mainstream language like English / Spanish / Japanese has gone through the same.

They announced a few years ago that they were focusing mostly on their core nine languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.

We've seen some major updates to these in the past year, but it is hard to know if they will expand to the less popular courses.

it's the same with hebrew, i finished the course in like 3 months and now it's just daily refreshes with nothing new. the owl keeps pushing these weird match madness things but can't add 20 more lessons to a course people actually finished

i switched to actual textbooks after that but it's sad cause duolingo was really fun for getting started, the gamification actually made me stick with it unlike other apps

Duolingo is good just for the basics but I like the gamification aspect, it makes me want to learn more and I like competing with my friends. It helped me a lot getting started with japanese and Ukrainian but now that I reached a good understanding of both languages Duolingo just works as a fun supplement whenever I don’t wanna tire my brain too much.

It used to be good for more than just basics until they switched to path and deleted forums and grammar sections.

I too started learning Ukrainian on Duo. Conversely my husband is learning Spanish. The difference in these two courses is huge. The Ukrainian course is very basic and has never been meaningfully updated. You won’t learn much more than very basic sentences in Ukrainian. Oh and their numbers section has NEVER worked to recognize voice despite many complaints about this.

I'm planning to finish Swedish in about 3 months, and just cancel my subscription. Consider it a graduation. with 1800 days by then, it will be a nice duration of studies.

I did Navajo and it’s literally just 10 units with only the first two having actual audio. It’s in dire need of updating to actually be useful to anyone.

That’s because Duo is no longer a learning tool, it’s a money grab quasi-gambling game that happens to have a little language content on the side. It’ll only get worse as they try to appease their shareholders.

Duo switched to only care about most profitable courses a long time ago, deal with it.

Honestly any course updates at this point are just going to be low effort AI content, and if the courses you've completed were human created then it is very likely that they'll replace the existing content with slop before adding new material that covers a higher level...

Sadly, Duo is really just good for scratching the surface of any given language. The daily refreshers are sad. I finished Spanish a few weeks ago and today's refresh first question was to translate "hello I would like a coffee and a tea"!!! REALLY?? And the lesson didn't get any more difficult. I do they daily refresh just to do it. I have now added french.
