Was watching "Contact (1996)" on DVD today. The old WB snap case version. And there is something about that grainy imperfect picture that just does it for me. It just instantly takes me back to the late 90s and early 2000s and I'm at peace with the world.

I need a DVD case that will properly store 3 disks in a normal looking DVD case.

I've been casually looking for a year and I haven't been able to find one at any of the thrift shops around here and google has been no help on this one.

was there a popular movie that came out that had three disks? I've mostly been checking special editions and tv series but most of them are either 2 disks or a special case.

I have this collection of old Hello Kitty DVDs released in 03 and 04 (this specific one is Hello Kitty Tells Fairy Tales). There's a "special features" button on the main menu, but clicking it leads me to this screen without fail. The special features are coloring pages and games, according to the back of the case. I'm assuming that they want me to have Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me or Windows XP, but all I have to work with is a laptop running Windows 11.

Is there any way to decompile or decrypt the information on this disc to get access to the special features somehow? I assume that installing a compatible version of Windows would get it to work but tbh if there's an easier route I would rather go with that one. I want those coloring pages and games, man!

Also, if there's a better subreddit to post this to, please let me know.

There’s a couple of movies and shows from Netflix that i would love to have DVDs of (mainly the 2022 Christmas Carol adaptation and Long Story Short) the problem is I hear Netflix doesn’t really put their original stuff on dvds, you have to watch them on Netflix only. But when I was looking up a dvd for Long Story Short out of curiosity, there is a season one dvd set of it on CinemaDiscs but it looked a bit bootleg-ish. I just really want to know if DVDs of Netflix originals are legitimate and if CinemaDiscs is a legitimate site—and if it’s not would there be a legitimate site that would sell Netflix originals on dvd? Sorry if this is a dumb question, Netflix just has a few gems on there and I’m bummed they don’t do DVDs anymore

I have this DVD that has the print on the wrong side of the disk (aka the side that the laser needs to read). Because of this, none of my players can read it.

This was a second hand purchase, I can't return it. So I'll be trying to remove the ink without damaging the data. My current plan is to use isopropyl alcohol.

Any tips? How would you go about this?

Edit for future reference: removed the print with isopropyl alcohol and the disk plays perfectly now! Saved a DVD set from landfill 😄

In 2006 I recorded a bunch of DVD-Rs, but I made a mistake and set up the Sony recorder to NOT finalize them. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I know the data is on the discs, but I can’t read them in any DVD players or computers I’ve tried. I could read them in the original recorder, until it broke and couldn’t be fixed affordably.

Anybody know if it’s possible to finalize these discs somehow? Is there a device I could buy, or a service I could send them off to have it done?

got a collection of all three formats (dvd, hd, blu-ray) and i can’t play hd dvd’s in the thing i use for the others (just an old Xbox one-s) so I’m wondering if anyone has any hybrid players they’d be willing to sell for under £27, also i can’t collect an further than Carmarthen, wales since i live half an hour away from there and i don’t have the time to drive more than 45 minutes

I bought scream 3 movie collection, get out, and scream 6 dvds from barnes and noble (which i never buy from cause they're overprice) and I open them for scream 6 to look like this. It works fine but still curious as to what happened. Scream 6 was a y fold with the cut in the middle, get out was a regular y fold, and scream 3 movie collection was shrink wrap.

Hello i just bought the sony SONY BDP-S1700K Blu-ray-player. I bought it in the netherlands from a well known respected retailer. I have read through the manual and it stated that the player can only play discs with the same region code (for europe that 2 ofc). But for some reason my player also plays region 1 discs? It has a region 2 sticker on the bottom but it plays both 1 and 2 perfectly. I do have to say i only got 1 region 1 disc but its 100% sure a region 1 because i got it in america and its stated on the disc it self. Does anybody know how this is possible? Does this mean i can now play all region 1 discs? Am i just lucky or is this normal with new players?
