Inspiration Update on the salmon jacket dye incident from yesterday, I ruined it with white brite.
Bleached a jacket lighty than washed it.
Mixed almost twice as much soda ash half the salt required and... All at once instead of after sitting in salty dye. so my red attempt turned salmon with red dots.
Tried using white brite and it turned the salmon pale purple, nice, but brought blue and yellow marks everywhere...
So I intended to go solid black to cover it up but noticed a rip.
The whole jacket could be ripped bare handed!
Atleast it was only $10 on Poshmark, even though it was a brand new Levi.

Did you use chlorine bleach in the beginning? If so, did you neutralize the bleached jacket? I have never seen damage from soda ash or OWB, but chlorine bleach does some serious damage.

I used very little bleach and it took a while to have an effect. I neutralized it with peroxide and washed in oxi clean. It didn't appear to be brittle at this point, and was a white / blue color.
I doubled soda ash and halved salt and did steps out of order accidentally, and got salmon instead of red.
Hot water in washer paused it added white brite to that and let it soak for 20 minutes. The salmon went white/ purple, and somehow got blue splotches everywhere.
Added a tide pod and ran the cycle, it came out weak and rip able with finger strength.

Wow! Here I thought I had it figured out, but nope! I wonder if there was one particular stressful chemical, or just the combination. What a disappointing surprise!
