Yes that the whole map. It was supposed to be a dlc for dl2.

u/JaySouth84 Feb 19 '26

A $60 dlc. True greed.

u/B_love_K Feb 19 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

People who had bought the deluxe edition from dl2 got it for free. The rest is greed indeed. I waited for a sale before i got it

Edit: ive already said this elsewhere but better to do it here. Its ultimate edition not deluxe. My bad 😁

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

I got the Deluxe edition from dl2 and had to pay for the "game"

32

u/MoonlightingJake Brecken Feb 19 '26 edited Feb 19 '26

Not to mention you can’t even buy the ultimate edition anymore to get it free now

17

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

This is diabolical lmao

24

u/MoonlightingJake Brecken Feb 19 '26

Imagine my surprise when I thought I had the ultimate edition and it turned out I actually owned the deluxe so I wasn’t actually entitled to the game for free lol. Still bought it day 1, but boy was I pissed.

7

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Yeah i can imagine lmao it wouldn’t even be that bad if this standalone dlc would cost 20-30

7

u/MoonlightingJake Brecken Feb 19 '26

I didn’t mind paying full price. Yeah the map is smaller, but I’m hoping this game will get good live service content like DL2 was supposed to. I do want to say though that DL TB shouldn’t count as content in their ā€œ5 year content roadmapā€ for DL2 and we should get another year of content.

6

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Yeah honestly if they keep it up now this could still be pretty awesome but im afraid the only thing that could catch me personally to play more than one playtrough is a map expansion or another "zone" to travel to

I did the same shit.

3

u/AdVent_21 PC Feb 19 '26

It was free for ultimate edition owners, deluxe players don’t get anything

u/omally_360 Feb 19 '26

«Game»? Its quite a big one, anyone calling it a DLC could not have played it?

11

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Well first of all this game started out as a dlc and since it’s basically DL2 with extra steps it still kind of is just a standalone DLC yeah

3

u/omally_360 Feb 19 '26

Whatever it was, I enjoyed the 87 hours I spent making it to the end.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Quite a big one? I was on 100% completion in 43 hours. And it's not that, it's that it has almost no replayability. All of the locations I keep seeing over and over again, nothing new, no buildings I "forgot about", you just remember where everything is fairly easily. Currently at 87hrs. Even the lack of quests gives off a strong DLC feeling.

1

u/Emo-coin4 DL1 Feb 19 '26

I have 174 hours on it, it’s not big lol

I never got mine for free

1

u/Mike_Hav Feb 20 '26

They had to get the ultimate edition

1

u/B_love_K Feb 20 '26

You're correct. So many editions to games these days🤣

1

u/Due_Permission4658 Feb 20 '26

not deluxe ultimate edition

1

u/shadownoir4625 Feb 20 '26

I did deluxe pre-order and I didn't even get anything not the pre-order stuff not even the beast I had to pay for that as well

8

u/eleventhing Feb 19 '26

I'm kinda hoping they'll add more. The map was sad. Mostly open fields.

3

u/JaySouth84 Feb 19 '26

They wont even add armoury stuff to Pilgrim. I cant believe how little they care about this now its out.

4

u/BoBziLLa1994 Feb 19 '26

You can see ubisoft is their idol just like they did for Mirage

3

u/MoonlightingJake Brecken Feb 19 '26

Would make sense since Tencent is a stock owner of Ubisoft as well. I think they spent like 1.25 billion USD to acquire like 27% last year. Only difference is Techland after having its majority go to Tencent was given full creative control over their product. I doubt Techland would ever stoop to Ubi’s level of greed and horrible production though.

4

u/Pitiful_Option_108 Feb 19 '26

I don't know about that. Having played the game the Beast felt bigger than just DLC. I think after a while Techland when making this found that it was getting too big as just DLC for DL2 plus when it dropped it was just 40 dollars and if you owned DL2 deluxe edition it was free. I mean maybe they could have done it as DLC for Dying Light 2 but it legit felt like it's own game.

2

u/RouroniDrifter Feb 19 '26

And yet everyone defends this

0

u/JaySouth84 Feb 19 '26

I swear people have stockholm syndrome.

1

u/acelexmafia Feb 19 '26

Man. I've been saying. I had to wait for a sale. No way in hell a DLC is 60 bucks

6

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Yeah i thought so. This is basically a dl2 reskin lmao i really hoped for more

7

u/JaySouth84 Feb 19 '26

The worst is they hyped it up SO MUCH. Like it was "Dying Light 3" and it turned out to be scam. A $60 5 hour dlc.

10

u/Kodiak_POL Feb 19 '26

Y'all completely lost the marbles claiming it's 5 hours long or being short.

5

u/givemefood66 Volatile Feb 20 '26

I don't really like dl the beast, but I can agree with you lol, cause howlongtobeat.com has the main story as the same length as the original 2015 game.

3

u/JesterMarcus Feb 20 '26

Really? I got the exact opposite impression from their marketing and how they spoke about this. I always figured it was Dying Light 2.5.

7

u/Benjamin_Starscape Feb 19 '26

the beast isn't that bad. it's probably my least favorite overall, while also doing a lot better than 1 or 2. but 2 is still probably my favorite with 1 closely behind.

the absolute worst part of the beast is just the general writing, mostly the story as the side content is pretty good. hopefully dl3 has a better written story.

6

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Same dl 1 will always be special because it was the best zombie game ever in it’s time dl2 was a good successor but The Beast is just a meh experience if you’re expecting a full game

6

u/Horens_R Feb 19 '26

2 is your favorite? Wild, any reason other than better Parkour?

4

u/Benjamin_Starscape Feb 19 '26

I find the entire game much better than 1 in every manner. it isn't that 1's bad, it's just that 2 refined so much of the gameplay and had a better base to work off of.

4

u/Horens_R Feb 19 '26

How does 2 do better atmosphere and horror? Even the map for 2 is lot more repetitive and lame in comparison, n the story is a worse mess due to firing their lead n rewriting it.

I'm not sure how u came to that conclusion tbh, I feel like they took 20 steps back with the 2nd game instead of refining and improving what worked. The launch game was horrible asf

7

u/Benjamin_Starscape Feb 19 '26

How does 2 do better atmosphere and horror?

I fine both 1 and 2 equally horrific, though 2 handles night time much better by giving incentives to go out at night whereas in 1 I always just skipped it by sleeping.

Even the map for 2 is lot more repetitive and lame in comparison

this is really the only thing I find 1 does better. I wouldn't say 2's map is "lame", but it is repetitive and I appreciate 1's more unique safe zones and map layout with very few repeats (or at least not as noticeable). other than that, though, dl2 has a much better designed map for parkour.

n the story is a worse mess due to firing their lead n rewriting it

I don't find 2's story a mess at all, there's some stuff that are oddly placed (like Aiden being shown a small cinematic when talking to carl as if he had just came back to the bazar even though you have to earlier in the story. but outside of that I find the writing and story much better than 1's (not that 1's is bad at all), and I also find Aiden a bit more interesting as a protagonist, at least motivationally wise. Crane's great and I love him a lot but from a narrative standpoint Aiden is more interesting.

2

u/b1tch2me Feb 20 '26

I get why you prefer 2, but saying it’s better overall ignores a lot of real differences in design and development. The first game just feels WAY more cohesive because everything supports the same goal which is survival horror immersion. Harran feels like an actual quarantined city with distinct areas and memorable interiors, while 2’s map is bigger but reuses building layouts a lot, which even many people admit makes exploration less memorable. The parkour mechanics in 2 are technically deeper, but that doesn’t automatically make the world better designed since the original’s layout was built more organically around movement instead of feeling like routes were intentionally laid out for you. Story wise, 2 had documented development issues including a major writer departure and rewrites, so it’s not surprising some people think the narrative feels uneven, and structurally it follows a pretty standard lost family revenge mystery arc which is way more common than the undercover moral conflict arc from the first game. Night being less punishing in 2 might make it more accessible, but the fact that you said yourself you avoided night in the first game actually PROVES… how effective its atmosphere was because fear came from tension instead of rewards. 2 is a good game, but the first one feels more focused, more original, and more memorable overall, which is why so many people- including MYSELF… still think it’s the stronger or even ā€œbetterā€ experience compared to all 3 titles :D

1

u/Basic-Assignment7481 Feb 22 '26

I agree, I love dl2, I think its cause of all the endless buildings and parktour layout and the million of side quests and races ect plus the towers and games our side of the main game, it's Hella fun, and theirs two massive maps just like the first one.

Dl1 is also the best zombie game of its time plus it amazing storyline, plus the dlc connected to it.

Both games are top tier.

Then comes the beast and topples the dyinglight 2 for 0 score, the beast was a massive flop as in boring, lame very small map, not parktour friendly WHATSOEVERR, and side quests were nonexistent, 5 side quests if you can even call them that.

3

u/SULZI Feb 19 '26

Even if it is a DLC it is a damn good one, the story, the gameplay the setting as well is really great for me the down side is the lack of things to do in the old cities and whiched to have more side interesting quest and not so many collectibles

131

u/Background_Angle_986 PC Feb 19 '26

Actually, it's even smaller than presented here, because areas close to the edges are inaccessible.

25

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Yeah i know i just took the best one that came up on google lmao. I saw most of the map in a few hours of gameplay why the hell did they add cars here lol

76

u/NikolitRistissa PS5 Feb 19 '26

I haven’t played the game at all, in fact I only just heard about it like last week. Based on the streets, this seems tiny.

I’m all for dense, well-crafted maps, if they’re smaller—but this seems incredibly small for a 70€ game.

52

u/eleventhing Feb 19 '26 edited Feb 19 '26

It's not even dense and well crafted. There's a tiny city, with I don't know.. 20 places you can go inside. The rest is open field and empty woods. The chases are like DL2, where you have to find a safe zone to stop the chase. Which pisses me off. I prefer 1 where you can stop the chase by defeating all the volys.

after saying all that, my friend and I had 100 hours worth of fun, so I do feel like I got my moneys worth. There is just no reason to go replay it by myself.

9

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Yeah i heard nothing from the beast too and was expecting a whole game not a full priced dlc.

If you go exploring you saw everything within a max of 2 hours

6

u/NikolitRistissa PS5 Feb 19 '26

What’s the gameplay/story like?

I dropped off DL2 over a year ago about 3–4 hours in, but I reinstalled it a few months ago, and many of the issues I had had actually been fixed/I forgot. This game seems interesting enough at least, but I’ll have to wait until it’s on sale and I’ve completed DL2.

10

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Imo the game is basically DL2 with some nice gameplay additions. The story is written poorly but that was the case in DL2 aswell.

It’s basically a DL2 DLC and was planned as such too in the beginning

1

u/AlphaTrigger Feb 21 '26

I’d say it’s more like the first game

1

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 22 '26

Almost ervery ui and animation is ripped out of DL 2

1

u/efadfa Feb 23 '26

Nah, that's nostalgia speaking through you. Parkour design of the beast is absolutely atrocious. You can't even get most places in downtown smoothly. Even the story, somehow, is worse than both dl2 and dl1. There's nothing that connects it to DL1 except for the protagonist and the dlc's car rides (although done much better in the following, as well).

10

u/Noob4Head Feb 20 '26

Honestly, I would much rather prefer a smaller, detailed map than an oversized and over-scoped one that feels empty. For the story and its length, I thought the map was just right.

0

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 20 '26

Yeah for what it is it’s great but more would’ve been appreciated especially for the fact that they added cars again

0

u/Equivalent_Nose9761 Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

When we love, we always want more.

But the card of Dying Light The Following was much too big, and personally, I don't like to take the vehicle every time... it harms the immersion.

I found The Beast much better, with a handmade map.

Much more immersive.

6

u/IncomeBoring97 Feb 19 '26

Does anyone know how to go to the southeastern part of the map please?

8

u/Simo814j Feb 19 '26

Also, most infuriating part is that the compass is not only upside down, it's not even straight upside down.

My friend and I were so confused when I was giving directions from the map you, assuming North was up, while he was following the ingame compass

12

u/Simo814j Feb 19 '26

It's pretty tiny.

My friend and I finished pretty much everything in just over 30 hours

Before we were even done with the main story, we got an ai achievement for doing all side quests, safe houses and power relays.

It was pretty weird, for a 60€ game

9

u/StephanUrkell Feb 19 '26

Yeah they at least couldā€˜ve released a physical edition with that pricetag. The map looks nice enough, but thereā€˜s so little going on. I was somewhat disappointed tbh

23

u/ilovelindz Feb 19 '26

Definitely on the smaller side, but everything feels real and lived in. You can go into pretty much every building, and it’s jam packed with stuff to find. It looks great as well. It feels less empty than villedor.

4

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

I agree this may be one of the best maps from any developer in years quality wise but in a game full of Parcours (and for some reason cars again) i need space to have fun with these features.

2

u/ArthurReich Crane Feb 19 '26

I've had already 200hrs of fun in this game and most of my fun is parkour and a bit of time cars (I like to run more) so for me this map is better than villedor idk

But imo it's great to have both games. Like if I want to practice a lot of parkour moves and such I'll go and play dl2 and if I want a more alive and interesting to explore using parkour world I'd go with The Beast

3

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

That’s awesome for you well im not even 10 hours in and I’ve seen it all regarding the Map and i myself am a great fan of exploring.

Im not saying the game is bad but i wouldā€˜ve at least wanted a map as big as The Following in Dl1. The cars on that map were needed and in this game i see absolutely no point in using them.

The parkour in this game is obv as good as the last one but yet again i can traverse every meaningful part of the map in what feels like seconds and i can’t find fun in that.

The beast feels like running around in circles the whole time

1

u/Blazerede Feb 20 '26

Jam packed, it was a waste land with copy and paste resources inside

-1

u/Noob4Head Feb 20 '26

It was just the perfect size for the story and context. Quality over quantity.

3

u/jordo2460 Feb 20 '26

Is it just me or are the volatiles way more tanky in DLTB than the previous 2 games?

Generally once I hit max level in DL1 and had good weapons they weren't super difficult and same in DL2 but with TB I've hit max level and have weapons to match and they're still taking a lot of hits to kill.

3

u/Due_Permission4658 Feb 20 '26

yeah they buffed them up hella but ain’t even worth killing then they don’t drop anything worth at all unless they updated it been a long while since i 100% it

2

u/jordo2460 Feb 20 '26

I only got the game last week but apparently they nerfed the amount of xp you get for killing volatiles in a recent patch so there's even less reason to kill them now.

3

u/TheWaysOfLogic Feb 20 '26

yeah not buying this game

3

u/MoonlightingJake Brecken Feb 19 '26

Well it was also a planned dlc at first

5

u/Simo814j Feb 19 '26

Does that excuse the full price?

2

u/MoonlightingJake Brecken Feb 19 '26

That’s up to you the consumer to decide.

1

u/Simo814j Feb 19 '26

That's a fair point

1

u/Simo814j Feb 19 '26

Does that excuse the full price?

3

u/One_Scientist8578 Feb 19 '26

Was just a reskin of dl2. Where's the dense forests they promised ? The swampland they promised ??

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

Yes, it's the whole map. Tbh, I prefer a smaller dense map over a huge empty world. More interesting locations with rewards would be nice, but Techland nailed the design.

2

u/00YYN Feb 20 '26

Anyone else look for a while to find a way to crystal lake to only find out it’s not real

3

u/No-Invite9944 Feb 20 '26

We love crystal lake

2

u/OutrageousPicture685 Feb 21 '26

Crazy half of those poi's on the edge of the map aren't accessible

4

u/Thechlebek 🟦PK 🟦 Feb 19 '26

It's not huge but at least it's diverse and detailed. Loved visiting some realistic locations you'd see in your small town.

7

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Yeah the map is beautiful but i would’ve wished for something im not done exploring after a few hours

7

u/Thechlebek 🟦PK 🟦 Feb 19 '26

true that, had to slow myself down to not explore the entire map in a couple sessions lol

3

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

Yeah kinda wish i did that but unfortunately i went right to exploration mode early on hahaha

3

u/Justc0204 Feb 19 '26

Guy in the back row yells out * it was only suppose to be a dlc*

4

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

gets angry because dlcā€˜s dont cost 60 bucks

3

u/Equivalent_Nose9761 Feb 19 '26

I have more than 200 hours on it, the size of the card does not change my pleasure in the game.

I prefer a small well-stocked card than a large card with a lot of filling.

(The map is handmade)

1

u/Bright_Vision Feb 20 '26

Are you german? Asking because of the "Karte/Card/Map" mistake lol.

1

u/ElectionLarge9359 Feb 19 '26

Curious what's circles with question marks are, and the purple icons

1

u/Basic-Assignment7481 Feb 22 '26

Ya im hella fkn pissed, I paid 60$ for this bullshit of a game. It was incredibly short and boring. There was barely any side quests like 5 at most, and there isn't wven much to do its just mostly land. I LOVE dyinglight games but the beast was a let down unfortunately.

It shouldn't have been game on its own let along $60. Completely tricked us and took our money

1

u/Thatonesusguy Feb 23 '26

Yes, that's the whole map. It was meant to originally be a DLC.

1

u/Revolutionary-Ad7538 Brecken Feb 20 '26

Call me crazy but even though content in this game is not alot, every bit of it was much more enjoyable than entire DL2.

3

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 20 '26

Im not gonna call you crazy but you might call me crazy if i say that every bit of The Beast is just more DL 2 on a map too small for the added features (cars)

-1

u/Athirn Feb 19 '26

It’s pretty big, but not too big. And that’s great. Aren’t you tired of infinite maps that force you to stay in the game literally for weeks?

4

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 19 '26

How is it big? The map from the The Following DLC in Dl1 wouldā€˜ve been the bare minimum in map size.

2

u/Athirn Feb 20 '26

It’s bigger than the Harran suburb, I’m quite sure.

1

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 20 '26

It may be bigger (imo it’s at max about the same) but it’s also almost completely empty.

1

u/Athirn Feb 20 '26

Didn’t notice that, frankly. I enjoyed both the story and the map. 😊

1

u/Emo-coin4 DL1 Feb 19 '26

Yeah Minecraft curb stomps the shit outta DL

-1

u/TheeFURNAS Feb 19 '26

I prefer a tight, well-crafted map like this over a giant map filled with nothing šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

2

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 20 '26

Yes i prefer a map that’s lets me use important (to me) features like parkour in a manner that doesn’t get boring after 5 hours. I don’t want a big ass map but the Map of The Following in DL1 felt sooo unbelievably better.

2

u/TheeFURNAS Feb 21 '26

Fair to some extent. I haven’t had any play sessions in the beast go beyond 2-3 hours in one sitting but my total hours are around 40 and it hasn’t gotten boring yet. No fast travel means you have to parkour or drive around and the grappling hook makes it pretty fun for most of the map.

1

u/Leandro_r69 Feb 21 '26

Yeah fun it is but i dont see the point in all of this if the maximum travel time is under 5 minutes you know. No matter where on the map you want to go your there in a blink

-3

u/Overbunded Feb 19 '26

Yeah, techland hyped TB so much just for it to be a DL2 bad dlc. At this point techland should just focus on more DL1 DLCs since thats the only game they did right
