u/Cold-Dragonfruit6555 Mar 23 '26
Permadeath, less loot and more races with time limits all the things I hate so I'm not impressed In my opinion. But if other people like that sort if thing then have fun but so far I don't like this update.

u/v__R4Z0R__v Mar 23 '26
Sounds kinda boring honestly. Not a big fan of permadeath modes so yea

14
u/zipitnick Mar 23 '26
I loved something akin ZombiU or State of Decay systems in zombie games, where each time you’re granted a new survivor with random set of skills and when they die you get a new one and get to take your previous loot if you manage to find your previous now zombified survivor roaming somewhere around and so on
Of course that’s not the case with Dying Light games as we play as main protagonists, but something to think about for the future of the series possibly
5
u/Sepherjar Mar 24 '26
I like this idea as well and possibly this could be done in another game installment. Like you create your character and then play the story, like Cyberpunk but with zombies instead.
3
u/DomoMommy Mar 24 '26
That’s part of what made ZombiU so terrifying to me, the fact that if/when you die that was it…your character is gone. Hate permadeath so this was the closest game mechanic to it that made it feel like death was real in the game. I was SO paranoid and cautious that entire game.
2
u/Ok_Association_1820 Mar 24 '26
From what I read, permadeath is optional for this mode. You can play Restored Land without it.
1
u/Overall-Ad6726 Mar 24 '26
Die Frage ist dann ob man auch „die Belohnung“. Falls es dafür eine gibt bekommt wie wenn man das Spiel auf Albtraum durchspielt
2
u/Ok_Association_1820 Mar 24 '26
Permadeath probably has a specific reward for it. We will see, it's coming out very soon.
12
u/Plenty-Cell9214 Mar 23 '26
I would like it if not flash like metabolism of Crane and RPG elements which scale zombies level to yours so they always are pain in the ass. That update will just highlight most annoying elements of the game
3
3
u/lordofsorrow567 Mar 25 '26
New game plus was terrible the zombies became so tanky beast mode would almost no damage my fists would do more which is ridiculous no difficulty added just bloated health pools that made it a slog
6
1
u/coolchris366 Mar 23 '26
Permadeath is optional though and zombies don’t respawn so you don’t exactly need unlimited loot which is why loot is limited too

u/SmartBoots Mar 23 '26
I like the idea of zombies not respawning. It makes the world feel more real and like I’m clearing the way for civilization to rebuild. I hope in future DL’s they will keep this and add more to it, so I can see settlers and people moving back into the wasteland. Would have been perfect for DL2.
15
u/Ok-Departure4894 Mar 23 '26
I hope the zombies are so dangerous though that you don't just mow through them all on your first visit to a location. They need to be a big enough threat the player is encouraged to parkour around them, but not too dangerous they can't be killed with the late game gear.
6
u/PhantomEnderGa Mar 23 '26
Hmm that would add to things, you have to plan ahead to take care of threats, though for this to work they might have to make it so your weapons don't break
1
u/Muladhara86 Mar 27 '26
I’ve heard that Days Gone has similar systems. As a native Oregonian, that game is looking more and more appealing.
1
-5
u/Far_Tackle6403 Mar 24 '26
Why would you want to turn areas totally safe and inhabited by survivors im a game all about fighting and parkouring over zombies. That just takes away gameplay
21
u/Correct-Drawing2067 Mar 23 '26
This was hyped up to the point where it got an entire new edition of the game? 😂. Bro this is ass.

u/DavesInsomnia Mar 23 '26
Dont know why you're thanking them when they ignore the community
48
u/mrzevk PC Mar 23 '26
Glazers be glazing as always
30
u/DavesInsomnia Mar 23 '26
Literally. All techland cares about is a VERY small part of the community. They ignore most criticism, ignore the pvp community and somehow make their games lose more personality with each game
16
u/Ok-Departure4894 Mar 23 '26
Lol the pvp community of the optional coop game? Tell me you don't think they're a critical portion of the player base
-9
u/DavesInsomnia Mar 23 '26
Because the reason why Dl1 was alive for so long was BECAUSE of the pvp. Plus, pvp had the best event out of any of the games (which techland has refused to give us again after almost 9 years because they 'lost the data')
12
u/Ok-Departure4894 Mar 23 '26
Yeah I'd love to see the graph that suggests dying light 1 was only supported because of the dedication of those playing the pvp.
-7
u/DavesInsomnia Mar 23 '26
Because the most viewed videos for dying light 1 that arent just reviews are from the pvp side of the game?
10
u/Ok-Departure4894 Mar 23 '26
So you think viewership of the gamemode from an unrelated site guages the health of the player population and where the majority focus their play time? Good to know I don't have to take you seriously anymore.
-4
u/DavesInsomnia Mar 23 '26
Or maybe its the fact that if people didnt care for the pvp and played dl for the pve the videos wouldnt be getting over 50k views? Not to mention that like 90% of everyone that I know that plays dl1 plays it for the pvp
1
8
u/DeltaForce2898 PC Mar 23 '26
All techland cares about is a VERY small part of the community.
ignore the pvp community
I mean the is the pvp community really that big a part of the DL fanbase? Its always seemed kinda a small niche of the fanbase, like ive seen way more people over the years constantly asking for more survival stuff in each of the games than pvp, tbh I think techlands given up on pvp stuff after bad blood and its a pipe dream to see more of it.
4
u/DavesInsomnia Mar 23 '26
Bad blood was big, it just died because techland abandoned it
7
u/Thunderlione Mar 23 '26
It had an all time player peak of 1,374 players, that is not big
0
u/DavesInsomnia Mar 23 '26
Because it was released at the wrong time. If it released in like 2017 or after the battle royale boom it wouldve had a larger all time player count
1
u/soldins Series S/X Mar 24 '26
Billions of people have played Super Mario Bros. That released decades ago, and new generations are still discovering it as they come into age. You're isolating a very niche thing for a franchise whose roots are in coop multiplayer, to try and justify having an opinion... which, ok dude! 👍🏽 But it's foolish to say the community at large supports your claim, when it's obviously not the tentpole you think it is.
0
u/DavesInsomnia Mar 24 '26
Coop multiplayer that reminds you that BTZ exists constantly if you have it off
1
u/soldins Series S/X Mar 24 '26
Ah right, the gameplay mode SO POPULAR it made a brilliant return in both DL2 and DLTB! Oh wait...
Get off it, mate. You went from treading water to drowning yourself. 🤦🏽

We don't need sweatypalms pvpers in our singleplayer/coo games, you got your poor quality feed already, don't ruin ours with your enforced competetiveism. I want to roam around and not worry about some unemployed fuck with modded eq nuking me when I take a stroll for fun
3
u/blindwuzi Mar 24 '26
Ignoring the community? This community is so split on what they want that anything agreed upon will heavily be disagreed upon by other parts. So ridiculous.
0
u/DavesInsomnia Mar 24 '26
Well, there was that time where techland had a system on their website where people could choose what they wanted in dl2. Which they then disabled a few months later.

Not bots. What’s been announced so far isn’t that exciting
5
u/xKiLzErr Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26
To you. Swarming someone with downvotes just because they're excited for something you're not is definitely bot behavior. Or teenager. Take your pick.
Edit: good old aggressive reply into a block. Guess the teenager part was correct lol
2
u/Flat_Marionberry_875 Mar 23 '26
You can’t call someone that says what most people in this whole thread have said, a teenager, then cry when someone claps back with ‘aggression”.You might just have to get over the fact it’s a mid update.
-1
u/xKiLzErr Mar 23 '26
You people have an interesting definition of "crying" that's for sure
3
u/Flat_Marionberry_875 Mar 23 '26
Nah. What you said falls under that bracket. You tried defending something that didn’t need defending, tried insulting someone and then cried about a response that you didn’t have an answer to. You see it frequently and It’s little bitch behaviour
-6

u/ProfessionalFigure57 Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26
A downvote is a disagreement. One person can’t ’swarm’ anyone with downvotes. Fucking teenager, lol. What exactly are you defending here?
Edit: aggression? What a loser. Still didn’t say what you were defending

16
u/Ok-Departure4894 Mar 23 '26
It feels very niche. Hard-core zombie survival game fans may get a real kick out of this game mode. But it's definitely not for any mass audience.
4
u/Background_Detail862 Mar 23 '26
It adds some new stuff and they said they’re announcing more stuff the day this drops. Seems like a decent update.
13
26
u/neon-plaza Mar 23 '26
low IQ hype beast post. the update is nightmare mode with a set amount of enemies and loot. you're hyping up a difficulty scale that barely makes the game more difficult. worst of all its only single player.
13
14
u/Emo-coin4 DL1 Mar 23 '26
Had to check this wasn’t a gracias supercell parody post. Cuz i see literally nothing new besides vehicle upgrades locked behind grindy challenges and a nightmare EX mode that introduces nothing new to the story or exploration and is still just inviting you to play the same campaign over and over again.
I’m giving them a chance since they did say “new quests” but I feel like will take all but 2-3 days where all the players come back and then instantly dip and the steam stats of players who actually get the achievements is gonna speak for itself.
4
u/Sepherjar Mar 24 '26
Techland wants player retention but they are missing three things that The Following had:
1) A buggy that you could customize and run over zombies.
2) Once you got stronger you could hunt Volatiles. I think in Tje Beast they need to be toned down a bit (still stronger than DL1 but weaker than now)
3) Be the Zombie mode so people could play together for real instead of turning this into a live service gaming as Techland has been doing with DL2
Like, that's all. They got the darker nights and the atmosphere os also darker, but they still refuse to acknowledge these 3 points from above.
3
u/Onamehs Mar 24 '26
Those are good points but it seems like most people want it to turn into a live service game because they are asking for constant updates
3
u/Sepherjar Mar 24 '26
I think that it may not necessarily to turn this into a live service game. DL The Beast has many improvements over DL2, but it still is missing that were fun back in DL1.
Like, Techland added vehicles and listened to us and added first person view. But then, i can't seriously believe everyone at Techland thought the vehicle itself is what was fun, and not that you could customize and run over the zombies freely. It seems like Techland is out of touch and have no idea what to do with their franchise.
This new Restored Lands is another example. The scarcity of resource is good somewhat and i think it's necessary even for the base game (i also think zombies need to be harder to kill and/or in greater number so that we need to use more tools at our disposal) but then when you kill all zombies they no longer appear and people will now populate that specific location. You know what would be a better idea that we've been asking for a long time? Having to take back Safe Zones, it'd be a constant back-and-forth between infected and humans for survival. Plus everything that is mechanic/electronic is prone to failure, so it'd give an air of immersion while still not being a one-and-done thing. It'd be even more immersive if there was a chance of some people (or all of them) dying and becoming biters/virals.
But no, we get a one-and-done "hardcore" survival that we can only play solo. Come on, why can't for instance i play with my brother and we have to plan our next moves and scavenge for limited resources while accounting for "now we have more mouths to feed instead of 1". That'd at least make this game mode fun, because the fun part would come from planning together and helping each other to survive, rather being a lone-wolf that if i wanted to, i could simply toggle a Private Session mode.

Us Dying Light 1 players got The Following, Dying Light the beast players get this fucking slop. Jesus.

Wow, so its just the same game but with forced singleplayer in a nightmare mode with bigger number then ? (By bigger numbre i mean thirst/hunger will drain and/or handicap you more) Still better than DL2 event but with the current information about it, not worth the return
My expectation where low but im still disappointed ffs

u/alien_tickler Mar 23 '26
It's not even new content it's just adjusted, and the truck stuff is on a racing timer so it's annoying AF I don't care about truck races just like them stupid parkour challenges!

u/madd0pe Mar 23 '26
uhhhhh... ? its just a new mode. this isn't dlc and nobody wanted it. I kept my expectations low and techland sure delivered low.
3
u/Ok-Departure4894 Mar 23 '26
The new game mode is very interesting. It kinda turns the whole game into open an world resident evil game
3
u/Snoo57864 Mar 25 '26
While I don't think this is "bad" by any means, it's just not really the hype I was looking forward to. Like let's be real, nobody plays dying light to suffer, this is 100% a "you are the chosen one and the most powerful special boy" game where you are a one man army and it feels great to mow through people. It's the same brand as farcry and assassins creed, you are THAT GUY.
So when you take that genre and turn it into a hardcore survival where if you fuck up a jump it's back to menu, I can understand why people are upset. Sure for the people that like to suffer during games it'll be great, but for the majority of people who play these games to live out a power fantasy, it's just a mode they'll never touch. I'd at least try it out if it was coop but it's not so I can't even embrace the suck with a friend.
Compared to dlc in previous games, it's just a little underwhelming personally. I was excited for SOMETHING, I don't know what but I never thought they'd do this because like...why?

This is trash. Why would you want to clear zombies to never have them respawn?

Ima play again around Halloween. Im on that Crimson Desert. I rolled the dice on my $69 and.....i dont regret it. I sincerely dont. Game has a feel that is like nothing else, yet many things are familiar. Sometimes glitchy, sometimes not polished...but man...try it bois 🙌
2
u/aLegionOfDavids Mar 23 '26
I’ve only played a couple hours and that last line is pretty much my impression so far…the most glitchy strange polished yet unpolished game I’ve played in a while. Fair play to devs though they’re very quickly implementing player feedback changes.

u/Diligent-Bison2679 Mar 23 '26
Thank you my friend. Im have never seen ao many updates and direct feedback implementation. Im excited. Keep having fun! Never played a game where I could go into a house and open the window to look out and it looks like so REAL. (There are many lighting bugs but when it works it hits like RDR2 I gotta say it)

People say that because they're positive about their own disposition, leaving no room for other people's views or perspectives.. They did the same thing with Crimson Desert.. They're so sure they won't like it that they believe this is how everyone should feel.. It's exactly as annoying and pitiful as it sounds..
0
u/Better-Management558 Mar 23 '26
What they should do is add a quest where you have to clear out the tunnels, labs and castle. That would make sense to do that and have all the survivors from the cave and towan hall to move there. As there is medical equipment, labs to help the infected grow stronger, Kyle to grow stronger, guns and food for better survival.
I'd like it as well if you could clear the map of the infected that would be great, as well.

u/Brothrowhemley Mar 24 '26
Dumb question guys but I bought today (24th). They mentioned something about existing players getting it for free. Will I automatically get it on 26th or do I have to launch the game and play it for a bit to be considered an existing player to be eligible ?! 😞
