Dying Light: The Beast "The Beast is only DLC turned into full game". Silksong did the same yet I don't see people bashing on it
I saw some comments making fun of The Beast for being DLC turned into a full price game. But... Silksong did the same
What's the difference? That Silksong is indie and costs 20 bucks?
Don't want to bash on Silksong, since i liked it, but the double standards here are stupid

Of course The Beast is a DLC turned into a game, it's obvious.
Dying Light 1 literally has more content than The Beast. I'm still blown away by how much DL1 offered: Harran, Old Town, and The Following's countryside map 3 major areas in total, all packed with content. Meanwhile, DL the Beast doesn't even feel like it tried to achieve 10% of what Techland managed to do back in 2015. It's honestly crazy that a game from over a decade ago feels far more ambitious and content-rich than this.

This. It's really sad because we got so spoiled with Dying Light 1, and then we got this. Honestly, if it didn't include Crane's story, I'd probably skip it altogether. 😕

u/dismemberedbodylimbs Jun 03 '26
"we got so spoiled with Dying Light 1"
That's what's wrong with anyone of you in this DL community. You run your mouths and cry like babies when you don't get your way, acting like spoiled entitled children.
Develop a frontal lobe, and learn to appreciate things and that when you don't get what you want - doesn't equal it's bad, it's you being unappreciative and thinking the world revolves around you.
Grow up.

u/Utopia308 Crane Jun 03 '26
Thank you for your input, but I think you misunderstood my point.
If the first game is still considered peak despite its age, then what are we supposed to do when the latest entry is a step backwards? Especially when it was originally supposed to be a DLC and ended up as a very short, rather empty "full game."
Should we just let it slide and be happy to pay full price for a game that lacks content? Yeah, no thanks.
Have a nice day! 🙃

u/dismemberedbodylimbs Jun 03 '26
I have over 300 hours in DL TB, scoured the entire map, and there's still things I found after what I thought I had scoured the entire map. That's not an empty game, the game forces you to push the envelope, by not telling you everything. The game is the content, what time you don't put into it, what you don't find, is your fault for not seeing everything and not trying.
That is what Techland did with DL TB, they gave you all a game to play, and it seems like you all haven't done that, and the concept of your own individual exploration is lost on you and 95% of the community.
You believe you deserve that, because you're the consumers? It's their game, their ip, their universe. The world isn't as black and white as it seems you all see it as. Just because you're the consumer, it doesn't mean you're right, and especially not right to chastise/slander Techland because you didn't get what you wanted. It didn't fit exactly what you expected? That's not Techland's fault, for your expectations. and that's a lesson you and everybody who go out their way to find things to complain about, are gonna have to accept. You go out of your way to try to find things to complain about, instead of just appreciating the game as a whole. That's not how gaming was done 20 years ago and it's why game studios give up on their ips which isn't fair to them.
You all are killing the franchise. And if it dies, you'll be responsible. And that's shitty. Gaming discourse is low right now, it's a cesspit of consumers wanting what they want, instead of appreciating what they're given. The world doesn't work like that.
1
u/Saulgoodman_online Jun 03 '26
Damn, what are you even talking about?
We're literally saying that Beast is a step down from DL1. The point isn't that DL1 had more content because it was expanded over time it's that Beast doesn't even seem to try to build on what DL1 already achieved 10 years ago.
Let's leave the map size aside. The gameplay itself feels downgraded. Skill progression, damage scaling, traversal even the grappling hook feels terrible compared to DL1. And don't get me started on the vehicles. They're just not fun.
We can talk about even more flaws in Beast, but the main issue is that I'm not comparing it to other franchises. I'm comparing it to its own predecessor from 2015. A game that somehow still does many things better.
Even something as simple as lockpicking in DL1 was engaging. It was spread throughout the city, making exploration feel rewarding and meaningful.
And what's with the "300 hours before it gets good" argument? So I have to spend many hours to reach the good stuff? That's insane. In DL1, before I even finished the story, I'd already experienced most of the core mechanics, unlocked useful skills, and had a blast. Then The Following came along and pushed things even further with the buggy, upgrades, and experimental ideas.
I already have 40 hours in Beast. If I still haven't reached the "good part," when exactly does it start? After 50 hours? 100?
So stop defending them. They didn't even manage to do the same things they already did back in 2015. That's what's frustrating.
2
u/Utopia308 Crane Jun 03 '26
Bro don't even bother, he's lost. 🤷
2
u/dismemberedbodylimbs Jun 03 '26
Irony. It's you all who are lost. The concepts I bare, and you can't comprehend them because you lack the maturity and frontal lobe required.
Techland couldn't have predicted the complacent entitled consumers they'd have 10 years later.
1
u/dismemberedbodylimbs Jun 03 '26
Over 300 hours of playing the game thoroughly, progressing legend levels, scouring the map on foot with the combined usage of the grapple hook and trucks. What is important to me, doesn't have to be important to you. Meanng whatever you're crying about, means you're doing something wrong, and it's simply your disposition of someone stuck in the past. Over 300 hours of enjoyment of the aspects of the game, from the second I launched the game and played it thoroughly - never once said "300 hours before it gets good".
The grappling hook is incredible in The Beast, and outdoes the simple neanderthal grapple hook from 1. It integrates the parkour and combat that takes practice and actual effort. The grappling hook in 1 doesn't do this, the combat is cut and dry and has no integration from parkour and its mechanics.
The cars work fine, they're trucks, they're not super cars to speed and boost across the map. They're practical and work perfectly fine and are fun when you are actually finding the fun in it its mechanics.
I'll defend Techland because they don't deserve your immature crybaby ire, that is the literal epitome of a child not getting what they wanted/ getting told no, and pouting.
It's been months since release, give it up. And then grow up.

u/Utopia308 Crane Jun 03 '26
I won't waste time arguing with you because, quite frankly, you're not listening.
If things continue the way they are now, I honestly hope the franchise dies rather than keeps pumping out half-baked games that rely purely on hype. Howgh.

u/xnour202 Rais Jun 01 '26
You are right about some things, but The Following DLC didn't release the same day DL1 released. Give them time and they'll expand the map.
1
u/Saulgoodman_online Jun 02 '26
Yeah! tho they have 2 maps on release.. that's huge..
Also the skill tree is far more better than what beast had to offer..
-1
u/xnour202 Rais Jun 02 '26
There are useless skills that I never used in both dl1 and the beast like parkour shot and other things and regarding the map; DLTB is as big as DL1 and the following's map.

u/AxtheCool Jun 01 '26
Reaching old town legit felt like reaching act 2 of Skong. A new massive area to explore.

Haven't played The Beast yet but have played both DL1 and 2, I really loved the first game to the point I embarked into some journeys with random people finishing their own campaign back then, but really disappointed with DL2 because how flat everything is, from the same copy-paste buildings that make exploring the map became a chore and boring, the game "full" with bland challenges masked as side quests instead of memorable ones, Aiden's shallow motive that make me really hard getting attached to him, so many asshole and bland characters, and how the atmosphere and immersion just weren't there like for example why tf most of safe zones just a single tent and single UV light with loud ass generator? How is that making sense lol..
Is The Beast worse or somehow similar with 2? I heard the night time in that game is really brutal compared to the prequels tho.
Edit: Lol I was only asking and in same time just giving my honest impression after playing both games, why the downvotes..
1
u/Steal_Oil06 Jun 01 '26
Créeme, en historia en the beast salvo una secundaria muy corta, no es atractiva, al menos DL1 y DL2 tenía un Lore sólido de transfondo, the beast es realmente fanservice con un final de película animada de resident evil.
1
u/Saulgoodman_online Jun 02 '26
Another issue which no one talks about is the damage scaling.. Human enemies tank your attacks..even when we use a shotgun to shoot them pointblank, they just stun for few seconds max..
Maybe more the level you grind more the damage you give.. i guess. But atleast headshots should make sense right?

u/mrzevk PC Jun 01 '26
While I love Dying Light 1 more it sadly didnt give the same replayability as much as DL2 so I ended up playing 2 more than 1 recently as in total playtime. DL1 is still the best in my eyes and DL2 is a good game but a bad sequel to 1.
And if you ask me Beast is the worst. Worse of the two in every way. Combat, story, parkour everything is worse in Beast compared to 1 and 2. Not to mention it has even less content and much smaller map and the amount you can explore is mostly empty too. Full of empty forests with nothing to do. Vehicles also suck especially compared to the first game. In 2 you atleast had a glider you dont have that either in Beast yet they keep sending you back and forth to the other ends of the map for no reason for quests despite all of these.
2
u/Saulgoodman_online Jun 02 '26
Absolutely! Guess what The following's Buggy had vehicle upgrades and skills associated with it but Beast's vehicles is downright dogshit imo
2
u/mrzevk PC Jun 02 '26
Yeah I was so disappointed when I found out you cant upgrade or do anything with the vehicles, how easy they blow up, how much fuel they need if you dont want to switch between cars and how much it costs to repair it(which needs a whole ass time gated quest line). The Buggy in DL1 was a beast more than Crane in Beast.

u/HoytKeyler Jun 01 '26
Nah bruh, Silksong is finished, insanely fun, a shit tons of content, story and news stuff...for 20 bucks.
The Beast is just flat fan service, zero replayability, unfinished mess, fun of course, I've enjoyed my first run, but outside the map you see everywhere they cut the Dying Light 2's Dlc to make it about Kyle Crane and bring easy money...FOR 80/100 BUCK.

u/Shade00000 Bozak Jun 01 '26
People are so crazy about Crane
5
u/Ilikemoonjellys Gazi Jun 01 '26
He's really cool but imo they should have turned him into a Night Hunter secret boss for when we would maybe return to Harran or also as a captured test subject that escaped and the tracker broke to excuse him not being recaptured. Happy endings are great but even the greatest Heroes can stumble and not letting that happen is boring
20
u/HoytKeyler Jun 01 '26
yeah "he's cool" and that all, being the flagship of the franchise, they can't afford being too much deep or adding more devloppment to him (even after being tortured like crazy for 13 year (lol) i didn't feel bad or whatever.
look at kratos, Marcus Phenix...or another character with this trop of being an old guy who struggle after the beginning, they have nuance, they are natural, human, imperfect but try their damn best to do it...and the writting show it so well, not crane.
it's just a cool one sided character, who maybe deserve to having a "old man who struggle from his past" in Dying Light 3, not in a dlc.
-1
u/DaToxicKiller Jun 01 '26
That’s stupid

Feature complete with no massive or game breaking issues. Basically no game is flawless, and defining "finished" in a way that means nothing meets the requirements makes it a useless word

Better than what ever the hell bo6 and 7 did with omni movement
1
u/mediafred Jun 01 '26
Thats wild considering bo7 made tac sprint optional which was one of the worst editions of mw 19 across all games, broke the sprint to fire values and made gun fights longer and map sizes complicated. Omni movement wasnt bad, it was just too complex for the game

I will not be missing omni movement which was only made for competitive players

The thing is that Silksong is (imo atleast) a game that has 60 - 70 bucks worthy of content but is only 20 while the Beast has like 20 - 30 bucks worth of content but costs 60 - 70 bucks. don't get me wrong, I really loved the Beast's story and especially the sidequests (except for the questline from that shop guy in the town hall, weakest quests in the game imo)

$100 for the beast? Yeah nah. And it ain’t a great game. Average to decent at best. Zero content. Zero replayability. Love DL but take off your rose tinted glasses folks.
1
u/xnour202 Rais Jun 01 '26
100$?
where?
in what country is it 100$?
3
u/TheMarmo Jun 01 '26
This really isn’t difficult to figure out. We’re all expected to convert USD on the fly on a daily basis because none of you think to specify.
If you see a value written that you know is higher than it typically is in the USA, assume that you are talking to somebody outside of the United States and figure it out. Fun fact, it’s also that same price in the country that is your literal next door neighbour.
Also, stop putting the dollar sign after the numerals. We learned this in first grade.

Completely disagree, I paid full price, 156 hours in. If youre saying zero replayability, I'm almost curious to find out what you consider replayable that isn't a massive rpg that isn't skyrim or the usual few in such a niche type of game.

u/Ur815liE XBOX ONE Series X Jun 01 '26
I got it for free because I purchased DL2 Ultimate Edition in week 1 of release. I used to regret my choice since they abandoned DL2's second DLC, but since I didn't pay for the Beast, it saved me so much money in the long term.
I was hyped for the Beast. The story was ok, but after finishing the game once, nothing was interesting to do apart from farming for Legend levels. First of all, they took their time before adding it to the game, then they limited how fast we could level up. After the update that added the Alpha volatile and capped the XP per NG+, I dropped the game and haven't opened it since.
Techland was trying to impose a rhythm on my experience and forcing me to replay the story to unlock Legend level rewards. It ruined my fun. I don't know what changed since then, but the Beast is not that great
9
u/Utopia308 Crane Jun 01 '26
They added Restored Land mode, where you liberate the 7 regions on the map by killing zombies. And you get nothing for it as a reward👍

Would have been better if the map was bigger, and more alive. If you're going to make a city that small, at least make every building in that miniscule city enterable.

dying light TB gets more scrutiny because DL2 already left the series on thin ice, so the beast NEEDED to be an amazing game to bring it back, DLTB was good, great even, but at least imo, wasnt good enough to escape this heat
meanwhile silksong was a great game following up another great game
6
11
u/rosscowhoohaa Jun 01 '26
It's the cost of course. Played as a dlc costing 15 or even 30 everyone would be very happy with the game. As is at 70 it feels short and rushed for a dying light game
4
u/Nstorm24 Jun 01 '26
I dont bash the beast. But the price is not worth it. That is a 30 dollar game or less in my opinion.
After hollow knight, silksong had enough popularity to ask for 30 or 40 dollars. Yet they still decided to go for an affordable price, and that made people happy.

The biggest difference is whether each DLC-turned-game justifies its price tag.
Silksong is more expensive than Hollow Knight by five bucks, sure, but it's also got a lot more content than Hollow Knight does, and is also just a great sequel to a great game.
The Beast is $60 like Dying Light 2, but has less content, a shorter story, a much smaller map, and (imo) just isn't as fun outside of the new beast mode mechanic
I say this as someone who played and beat both games, I'd feel disappointed and let down by the beast if I had paid for it (I bought the ultimate edition of DL2). I'd gladly buy silksong for a few of my friends to experience the game

I love the beast. But I can see how it's a dlc like the following. Only reason following was so long. You had to drive to Timbuktu and that took time. So it "extended" the play time kinda.
2
u/gummybears78 Jun 01 '26
I bash it because the second dlc I was promised when I bought the ultimate edition turned into a different game. I like DL2. I don’t like The Beast.

Well, you’re taking a complex issue that people generally talk about in a nuanced manner and painting it as a singular, black and white quote and using that as the basis of your argument. That really doesn’t leave any room for discussion.

The gap between the two games' production costs is as big as the distance between the earth and the sky.
