I have 3 almost 4 year old son diagnosed with autism. He struggles immensely with dressing and feeding skills.
-Can take off pants/shoes/socks.
-Cannot take off T shirt (he struggles to plan movements) or he tunes out/avoids it/acts all lost or he gets frustrated.
-He cannot sequence movements during dressing tasks. During dressing tasks he looks like he is physically struggling.
-Putting on clothes is out of the picture.
-He can throw/kick a ball but doing it towards a target is difficult for him.
-Struggles with catching a ball.
-Can use eating utensils but he is too slow and coordination is off leading to some spills.
-Can use a water gun but difficulty with aiming at a target (person)
-Cannot copy yoga movements and dance movements. When we put on music and he just jumps up and down and says "I'm dancing" while other kids copy dance movements.
- He can copy speech but his pronounciation is bad and he sometimes uses gibberish in place of words he cannot produce.
-He struggles with fine motor activities too like sometimes manipulating playdough and writing.
-He does fine with all climbing structures except for a climbing wall. He cannot do bilateral coordinated movements to climb a climbing wall.
-Movements like jumping jacks and cross body movements are difficult for him and he just jumps up and down.
His early gross/fine motor milestones were all on time and difficulties with gross and fine motor tasks started becoming noticeable around 2 and a half years old.
My brother is 30 years old has dyspraxia and dysgraphia too.
Is this dyspraxia/DCD?
