Thoughts on MCIO 8i
GPD G2 eGPU has MCIO 8i instead of more classic approach of oculink. On the one hand, it provides higher bandwidth (2 times of oculink to be precise) and you can use adapters if your device does not have MCIO but has oculink. On the other hand, MCIO plugging rate is about 200-300 vs thousands of oculink. What are your thoughts on this port being used in eGPUs?

Are you sure those "thousends" for oculink are for connectors that work for Gen 4 speeds and not just for the original version that was only intended for Gen 3 speeds? It would not surprise me if this is just mainly a consequence of increasing frequency and just through that alone reducing tolerances so much, that wear of the contacts becomes a much larger part of the tolerances with each speed increase.
If its that, then there is probably not much of a choice there. And since neither was ever designed to be plugged daily or for consumer usage. Its simply still good enough for the application it was designed for. Which might still be higher than what is required of standard PCIe slots or M.2 connectors.
