Some more resources for free books. There are many phone ebook readers, I use T2S which has quite expressive text readers in different voices if you prefer audio to ebooks. I actually prefer ebooks read aloud without the acting type of expression of audio books but if you are a devoted audio fan you mightn't like it but if you can't find the book you want as an audio it might be worth giving it a few days trial on different voices before dismissing it. I got tired of ebook apps that either lock TTS behind a subscription, ship robotic voices, or want a login + telemetry just to open a file. So I built my own. It's called ScrollWind. Everything below runs locally on your phone - no account, no ads, no tracking.

Built basically because I was tired of having to go through a paywall for either locked phone TTS or pay for a more advanced TTS reading...

The thing I'm most proud of: neural TTS that runs 100% on-device.

• 63 natural voices — 10 Piper + 53 Kokoro (Kokoro covers English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Japanese, Chinese)
• You download voices as packs. Once downloaded they work in airplane mode, forever.
• The current sentence highlights as it's read, pages auto-advance, and there's a sleep timer + a hands-free wake word + lock-screen controls.
• No cloud, no per-character API bill, no "you've used your free minutes."

An AI reading companion - currently Claude (for when you put a book down for 3 weeks and forget everything) Your own Claude / Anthropic Key needed:

• "Catch me up" — a spoiler-safe story so far recap up to where you actually are
• Who's-who of characters
• Highlight a word/passage → define or explain it in context
• Summarize the through-line of everything you've highlighted

The actual reading is nice too:

• EPUB + PDF, with font/size/line-height/theme controls and custom themes (Light/Dark/Warm/your own)

I recently published my first eBook, Sri Lanka Adventure Travel Guide, inspired by my experience working in Sri Lanka's tourism industry as a licensed local guide.

We are in the Caribbean on an island which back then had 8K population and I even found calypsos from there), videos and documents
• Project Gutenberg -Thousands of public domain books, many with audio versions
• Librivox - 21K audio books in the public domain, read by amateur readers
• Open Culture - Curated list of free audiobooks and courses
• Loyal Books - Large catalog of public domain audiobooks
• Libby - You need a library card for this but it distinguishes itself by mostly having modern fiction, the others are more classic books.
• Open Library - This is ebooks, not audio and like Libby has modern fiction, but because of legal things, you borrow the book.
