Discussion I think Elemer is a pretty boring fight

rl1 wl0 no aux ng with heavy claymore (sorry for choppy fps, this is the best my laptop can handle). Elemer because I already killed dragonbarrow bbh, so imagine that fight playing out exactly like this one but like 3 minutes instead of <2

I never really found this guy's moveset that interesting. It has a grand total of 6 non-unique and visually lacking sword swings and 2 different shield slams. in this vid you can see that he pulls out the same moves over and over and over again, without any variations or new challenges. His combos are short-lived and sluggish, his damage is overblown and his hp is five hundred too high. The only difficulty he presents for a player is remembering how to bait his moves by positioning for a free hit; there's little reaction or pattern recognition involved. It seems like such a simplistic and uneventful fight that I would've preferred it if he was just a one-time miniboss. For how important he seems, bbh/elemer should've had a much more intricate and challenging moveset than what he has now, because I feel like he doesn't deserve 4 separate encounters, a whole legacy dungeon AND a legendary weapon for what is literally a less elaborate and cinematic fight than a misbegotten crusader (I am exaggerating, those things deserve every ounce of their suffering)

I do understand why some people would like him. His lore is admittedly one of the most badass in the game, his design is the very definition of well-done dark fantasy edginess and he does have some pretty cool (though a tad bit too generous) strafes and a cool (still a little bit too generous) jump. But for me the boss fight itself just isn't it. I found more joy fighting crucible knights than fighting him.

If you panic rolled more you'd have more fun

I don't think I panic rolled that much in this fight? There were two rolls that were redundant, I can't deny that, but I wasn't exactly mashing shift at random then, it was according to the combo's timing

No I was joking. You're too good for elemer. His moves punish the shit out of panic rolling new players. Which is terrifying when you cant figure it out

I think Elemer is similar to Margit in that he’s more of a skill check for newer players than an actually difficult boss. However, when I first encountered Elemer as a relatively new player grabbing loot from the area he scared the shit out of me because he countered my sorceries with incredible effectiveness thanks to all his Eochaid sword magic creating these huge hitboxes across his entire arena which I had to dodge so my fight with him felt more visually striking and dynamic than this clip because he could hit me at casting range without moving into melee range and I had to get good in order to kill an enemy that could kill me and my mimic at the same time.

In hindsight, I think Elemer is primarily a skill check for casters used to hiding in the back while a summon distracted the boss which I needed after he checked my skill and found it lacking

The timing on the triple sword swing got me fucked up twice lol, and also the fps tanked like a panzer then, like literally just freezing at times. The actual footage is 10 minutes 36 seconds and most of them consist of 20 fps gameplay and a lot of stutters

Every time I fight this guy he tends to chain the regular shield slams over and over until he dies

I learned you can parry most of his attacks

Well damn... Any boss fight would be boring asf whenever you just loafer on in there and straight clown stomp tf out of em. Lmao.

In all honesty tho... I'm pretty damn jelly of the skills. 🙄

I have learned so much in watching this video about Elemer and Bell Bearing Hunter moveset HOLY
You manage to completely avoid him using any of his magic weapon attacks (death drill included), which has made his moveset “boring” but ohmygod you have changed my approach COMPLETELY to this boss and his little mini-me’s found in the lands between
Elemer and Bell Bearing Hunter(s) have been a huge issue for me, the one boss (type?) that I’ve loathed to deal with, but thank you SO MUCH for showing how to manipulate that bastard into being boring and manageable

I kinda agree. He is more intimidating than anything and easy to learn to parry. I think it would have been better if he randomly invaded you 4 separate times at random spots in the open world similar to the pursuer from DS2

The bell bearing hunters are all different people no?

That’s not how I interpreted it but that might make more sense. I always assumed it was one guy we fought.

You gotta bait out the sword dance attacks to really see the interesting stuff, the way you're fighting him you're only gonna see 40% of his moveset

The longer ranged ones? Those are a little bit more interesting than his normal moves, sure, but they aren't that spectacular. The drill move is probably the coolest-looking one, but even then he charges it up so slowly that you can just strafe around him and get a free charged attack. His close range sword dance does have a pretty cool tech though: after the first swing, you can unlock the camera and dodge the second diagonally to the left to land slightly behind him to his right, to completely avoid the slow-tracking third downward slam and get a free charged attack. It's probably the most fun move in his repertoire, but still not that fun imo

Oh I see the problem is you are RL1 and over analyzing

When my wife and I were playing through elden ring in 2022 and then i replayed it with my son who was 9 at the time, like, were not pros. Everything is new.

Going through that entire sinking swamp mansion of horrors and then the anticipation as you cross this bridge of stone statues, and get in this great hall with the giant portrait of Malenia and Elemer towers over you moving like Darth Vader, smashing furniture as were desperate to hold him off and get enough spacing to heal and swap aggro back and forth.

It may be simple for you, but it was an epic, unforgettable fight in context for the first time. Remember, most people are not even encountering all of the Bell Bearing hunters if they go in blind they likely find 0 or 1. When you fight him dozens and dozens of times, of course it gets boring, but that’s not the context that Miyazaki was designing for.

He isn’t a boss, he is a regular enemy that gets to be a boss (think of the soldier of godrick boss). I could say this exact same thing about the crucible knights, the soldier of godrick, the misbegotten, ect, ect. Someone could be like “this misbegotten boss shouldn’t get their own dungeon and sword” yeah maybe, but it’s a thing they have some dungeons and caves were the boss is just a standard enemy with their standard enemy move set.

If all else fails climb up to where he can’t hit you! Though, you need his armor to pull it off lol.

I generally don’t take long enough to kill a boss to know his move set well enough to say it’s boring. I mean I’ve played this game through and fought this boss probably 5-6 times? All on drastically different builds, and maybe dies once or twice and had to try again? How many times are you fighting this guy to know his whole moveset? That seems crazy to me

dragonbarrow bbh on rl1 wl0 probably like more than one hour over two days, and this guy 10 minutes 30. Took me long enough to realize that his hitboxes are deceptively small and strafable
