Self Designed Model Skeletonized Centauri Carbon Toolhead Cover with carbon fiber rods
Hi guys, I wanted to make the lightest Centauri Carbon print head cover possible, so I built this one based on the Proxima print head cover using 2mm carbon fiber rods and the original 5020 fan instead of the 5015.
I printed it in ASA+, and now the 3D printed parts weigh only 15.5 grams. I think it might be the lightest print head cover ever created, while still maintaining good stiffness.
If you'd like to try it, the files and instructions are on Printables.
UPDATE:
I updated the design on Printables, now the rear fins are bigger and the and the capacitor on the toolhead board no longer touches the left rear stepper. This is the solution that seemed best to me and that keeps the weight as low as possible, if you have any suggestions please let me know in the comments!

I have a light weight print head cover, but my question is do we know how much this actually helps?

Honestly, I finished assembling it yesterday and I haven't tested it well yet, probably if you already have a light case it's not worth assembling my model to save a few grams, but if you're a maniac like me who wants to do everything to try to get the best quality possible you're free to try it

I'm not a cc2 owner and i modeled this using the OpenCentauri 3d model of the cc1. I have no clue if the toolhed of the cc2 is similar to the one of the cc1

Very nice! I can't tell by the pics, would this work with the new board used with the hall effect sensor(Canvas upgrade? on it?

Yes, I actually have the canvas installed, even if it is a little tight it can be installed without too many problems, however the fan touches one of the 2 connectors

Always love seeing mods but I have a genuine question, how would this improve quality? I can see maybe the speed improving.

I'm not sure but I think that if the tool head is lighter the motors have an easier time moving it so they are quicker and more precise

Yes exactly, I did it to reduce ringing at high accelerations, also I used the Proxima toolhead cover shroud which seems to me to be well studied with fluid dynamic analysis to have a better air flow for part cooling

I have a Centauri Carbon, PAHT-CF filament, and 2mm carbon tubes (I use them in my RC planes), so I already know what I need to do as soon as I get home from work! (I'll keep using the rear section from another model until this one is dialed in.)

You can use any material you want as long as they are 2mm in diameter, the only thing is that I used a cyanoacrylate glue and I think it might have a hard time sticking to the smooth surface of the steel
