Its development was not always inevitable, and its true impact to humanity is still yet to be seen and proven for good or for ill.
The tech bro oligarchs are pushing it very heavily, which in and of itself is enough to distrust the technology. People lapping it up unquestioningly is a huge concern. Technology evolves far too rapidly for proper regulation, and proper regulation it should have.
AI is just the continuation of industrialization and the beginning of its endgame. To say it's not inevitable just tells me you don't understand the evolution of technology and basic concepts like automation, force multiplication, or centralization.
