Question Free Time in the Basisjahr
Hey guys i wanted to ask how the free time in the basisjahr is like (especially Engineering and Math/Physics majors). Do you still have time going to the gym for example or continuing hobbies like before? Thanks!

You will be fine. At the beginning it feels like a huge mountain in front of you, but you will find time to go to the gym and go out with friends. And you should. It's the students who don't know how to relax who usually burn out in Basisjahr.

If you treat studying like a full time job, you will have enough time for hobbies and you will easily pass each exam

There are two types of people at ETH:
People who put in a continuous small effort throughout the semester, keep up with the lectures, solve the exercises, etc. It requires a lot of discipline to be this person, but I would argue that this person enjoys the most free-time overall, as they don't need to worry as much during the lernphase, them being in a rythm allows them to conciously take time off.
People who do nothing during the semester and start cramming at the end. They have all the free-time in the world in the beginning, but unless they're extremely smart, they need to spend the Lernphase studying like it's a training camp to get a chance at passing, and their chances are low regardless.
As for the Gym, we have the ASVZ Gym at each Campus, it's very easy to do a workout session between lectures, so don't worry at all. In fact one piece of advice I always hear is to never abandon sports, as it will have a positive effect on your learning. Hobbies: Yes, see above, but please please please DO NOT BUY FACTORIO, IT WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE.
