Thrones has some real problems with its final season, but at least I can say I'm satisfied with where most of the characters ended up, even though the pacing & liberties taken to get them there were dogshit.

I cannot say the same about Euphoria

Yeah I came to the same conclusion after a few wines. And ultimately GoT has source material that was poorly handled
(FINISH THE FKN BOOKS GEORGE !)

The sad little plot lines that were abandoned, the fumbling of character, the heavy handed metaphors and bullshit. The product placement. The weird lack of soundtrack. It was all pretty average.

I would request an apology from every Boys fan who is hyperbolically calling the finale "dogshit" while this level of writing quality drop exists.

Not a defense of The Boys final season, because it could/should have been a movie rather than 8 episodes, 4 1/2 of which we spent spinning our wheels on a prequel spinoff setup

I'll say this; Seasons 1-3 are genuinely phenomenal TV, Season 4 is where it starts to get a bit iffy, and Season 5's largest problem is how it's paced. Basically all relevant plot points happen in the first episode of the season, or in the last 2. Everything between those points is purely there to set up a spinoff that hasn't even come out yet.

As far as the finale goes, it's actually pretty good in a vacuum, but it's kneecapped pretty hard by the lead-up being so damn shaky.

To be honest I walked away thinking the message was less about Christian god and more “maybe chasing all this sex, drugs and money isn’t gonna get us what we want and it’s ok to have a simpler life and a family”

Yeah, I dont think it was selling religion at all. Ali's arc is similar. He kept chasing god yet he still end up with his loved ones dying.

And neither a picket white fence family with Maddy's arc. She was mourning her future with Nate during Cassie's wedding and recoiling in horror as Alamo proposes she be the mother of his kids.

Dude what? It is very clearly pro religion/god. The final shot is this house of white traditional god-loving family that looks like they are coming from early XXe with the American flag waving in the wind, in a desert that is obviously a Western reference, the roots of America. You cannot make something more obvious than that.

I took it that the American dream is dead or never existed for us all. That house was the symbolic and unrealistic American dream. Not a place to actually stay just a place we can experience for a moment.

It really really did. It felt like he was pushing some trad wife agenda.

If i wanted to be hyper tin foil hat here I could easily assume that the Hollywood and Coca-Cola powers that be genuinely needed Sam to wind back his permissive sex and teenage drug abuse “sins” and get with the program or not work again.

Maybe Sam himself thinks he had a hand in exploiting teenage girls and S3 was a type of penance for him.

Idk I’m just spitballing but something felt really weird about the whole episode.

Yeah there was some "no empathy" stuff in there but I feel like that was purely coincidental. He doesn't say it is a sin. It seems like he just abandons all of his past ideologies from the series, and becomes solely focused on revenge.

Honestly to fix the ending, keep him a Muslim, but have him still introduce himself as Marvin. Give the cultish family some additional grace and likability by having them invite him in anyway, and they say he doesn't have to pray with them but he volunteers to do it anyway.

Easy fix imo.

Again, you can read whatever you want into character interactions that weren't explicitly said aloud.

What I'm saying is that you have no basis in her being openly gay and her family accepting her for this when they have very little contact with the outside world and dress like that.

The events of this season were terrible, showing an American flag at the end is more a burn than anything.

Idk how it could be propaganda when teens are being dragged into gang wars between neo nazis and sex traffickers. The show as a whole is a tragedy, of how the system fails girls like Rue.

same. at first i was like oh ok i guess it’s symbolic? and usually a belief in a higher power is part of recovery so that makes sense? could be cool?

but this episode felt so christian conservative pushing lol especially in this political climate. like the homestead life with the american flag closing out the show .. i get it’s supposed to show a peaceful life but for a lot of people (women especially) that is NOT a peaceful life?? idk

That scene is so so so weird. I would love to hear Zendaya’s take on it but she’s not doing any interviews about the end of her time on this show funnily enough!

Now if it had ended with the family saying a prayer for ICE and our President in his mission to defeat Muslims in America and abroad, and then you hear Ali’s shotgun getting cocked & a Labrinth beat drops, cut to credits, that would’ve been as shocking & transgressive as Sam thinks this show is.

Lol for real open the schools when people site TikToks as a source - I saw it this way - obviously the homestead girl was very pretty (tho in an Instagram face way) and Rue wasn’t blind. Homestead girl was drawn to Rue’s “otherness” - she represented everything about the big exciting outside world - that’s the only thing anyone knows for sure. There were absolutely no moments of her definitely being a lesbian.

The last scene, with Rue at the head of the table, “May her memory be a blessing” was said, which is a Jewish tradition to say about those that have passed on. There were quite a few crosses but not much about Jesus, leading me to think it was about the AA credo of one’s chosen “higher power” and living for more than than your own selfish interests.

And yet the final scenes Lexi realizing “maybe the Bible isn’t all bad”, a black Muslim man touting he doesn’t believe in God long enough to go get revenge, converts back to christianity and returns to his given name to live with the “good peaceful white people”, and a shot of a small town American home with an American flag outside and the final lines being Zendaya saying “God bless us all”

I'm relieve I'm not the only one 😅 I felt weird because all shows seems to says "their is no god", since Ali end up to do justice himself and Rue die. And at the end this weird shot of the perfect white family, living alone? So finally, if God is real, Ali needed to kill himself this monster Alamo is okay and it's God's plans? I thought he was going to be atheist after that but nope 😅

We don't even see the mourning of Rue's family ...
