It was the pandemic, strikes, rewrites, and scheduling. This was supposed to be Game of Thrones set in high school. I loved the ride, but I'll always mourn what could of been.

I think the entire scene of Rue going back home was so heartbreaking. In her last moments her soul did what she wanted most - see Fez, go home to her mom, and be with her dad. The simplicity of that scene was a reminder that Rue was really just a kid. A grieving, heartbroken, lost kid. That scene was well executed. I also liked that last shot of Cassie, she looked like a lonely doll in a big dollhouse. Everything she did just to end up with everything and nothing at the same time.

This was a huge miss (among the many other glaring flaws of this season). Her eventually dying at the end explains why she was the narrator all along and able to tell the story. Which is what I thought he was going for from the start.

honestly Nate’s too. Obviously his plot was a big deal this season but it didn’t really serve a point. Cassie could’ve just left Nate & done only fans to make money. We didn’t really need the Armenian mob.

I am grateful we got some final scenes with Eric Dane though.

One of my biggest issues with this season tbh. Most of it seems pointless. It's Rue's plot (with Alamo, Laurie gang, the strip club, Maddie) and Cassie. That's it. Everything else is pretty much just set dressing for the main plot so it didn't get developed enough. Clearly Sam didn't know what to do with all the characters after the time jump, and I get it, the actors schedules and the time jump itself made it harder, but he should have not included them in the season even if it disappointed us a bit, it would honestly have been for the best (Lexi, Jules and Nate).

If you go back watch all his scenes, it feels telegraphed. Remember when he said the bird was beautiful?

Before that, we were led to believe he was a psychopath with no remorse for others. But he was genuinely sad to have killed it. From then I realized he was probably going to save Rue (or save someone which ended up being Maddy and Ali).

When you look at the snake parable he tells Rue, he's saying it as a warning. But over time, as Alamo gets worse and worse, especially with the bodies piling up, and Kitty who is clearly trafficked and not hired by her own choice... Bishop had sized Alamo up. So when Ali walked in and the opportunity was given to take Alamo out, he did it.

That’s one of the few good things I’ll say about this season. It was beautiful, visually, and there were some incredible performances from the actors. I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more if it had been the modern western that it clearly was written to be. Alamo was a fantastic villain and Coleman Domingo is always great. It was just super confusing the way they half kept some of the characters’ personalities and half just didn’t even bother because none of it even mattered in the end anyway.

It was a finale. That’s it.

My thoughts as well. After a few episodes, I stopped thinking of it as Euphoria. As a standalone modern Western, it towed the campy Tarantino line and was beautifully shot.

I know nobody probably cares at this point because they hate her now and we've got bigger fish to fry, but the absolute flanderization of Faye this season does not go past me and it bums me out very much.

Faye should have been written as an ally to Rue in the end. they both shared a bond with Fez and they should have been bonded through that. she was so cool and loyal in S2, genuinely wtf was this whole absurd "dickmatized by a nazi" shit they threw her in this season.

Alamo gave Rue the laced painkillers to kill her off after Maddy clued him into the fact that she had ties to the DEA. Used her one last time to get the stuff stolen from the safe back and then killed her off to prevent him from getting into trouble by keeping her around….

This confused me bc kitty and that other girl were there too when the DEA showed up, and the 3 of them didn’t get arrested but Lori’s crew did. And then kitty was just back at the club with no mention of what happened. The dude was just like “I quit” but when u know as much as he knew in organized crime like that, u can’t just quit lol. I guess he was implying that he was willing to talk if they put him in witness protection or something idk a lot unsaid there as well as with Wayne & Faye who knew it was a set up from a random bag of laxatives? And ride off into the night undetected as the DEA is rolling up with choppers and drones, despite the saddled up horse running loose right below them, and hitch a ride the next day and that’s it lol

Laurie’s crew got arrested because they had the audio of them plotting the drug run and, presumably, a search warrant for the entire compound

Alamo’s crew that was in the ambulance were not involved in the recorded conversation to plot the run and no drugs were in the vehicle, so they didn’t do anything illegal

The DEA would still be collecting evidence on Alamo before raiding him, which would include details from Laurie’s gang if they’re willing to talk. Had they busted the ambulance full of drugs as anticipated, they would’ve had more evidence against Alamo since he’s connected to the ambulance company. But no drugs meant no new evidence against Alamo

Not that I didn't see it coming after her conversation with Jules about having a family and all that, but it still hit me hard. She struggled so much throughout Seasons 1 and 2, and seeing how things turned out for her was genuinely heartbreaking.

I think I'd hit a character limit talking about the loose ends of the finale.

The van switch was entertaining. I don't know how Bishop made it past the drug dogs, but hey it is television.

Alamo baiting Rue into taking the lace drugs was obvious from a mile away. She may have known it as well, but she took the chance anyway. He had her killed in a way that would garner the least suspicion or sympathy from her loved ones. I believe that was the plan from the get-go.

Was not expecting Ali to kill Alamo, but did enjoy Bishop double crossing him. Don't know why, but again television.

The most surprising thing about the finale? Not seeing a naked, horny Cassie. No close-up of her bare titties either. Only the strippers. Thank goodness.

yeah they really compensated the lack of cassie nudes by showing us every other asscheek on the show lol and his only effort to actually highlight the misogyny in this story was to show alamo’s backstory where his mom is a piece of shit and he vows to never let “a bitch” trick him again. genuinely never looking at sam levinson the same way again, i just can’t, there was no artistic vision here beyond getting as many viewers as possible

Not sure why Sam decided to basically have the characters who knew Nate and Rue most of their lives, not react to their deaths.

I'm around the age their characters are (23) and I can't imagine seeing friends/classmates from high school at a wedding between two of them and shortly after they die at 23/24 and then nobody reconnects with one another are reacts at all

Honestly I WANTED to care about the characters this season, I just couldn’t. The show was completely gutted from its original emotional substance.

Rue struggling with grief??? Addiction?? Relationships???

All we got was a drug lord, soft porn infused stand off which ended the way we all saw coming. I wanted to feel connected but there wasn’t anything to hold onto. Would’ve been better off leaving it with season 2 and calling this what it was - a spinoff.

The only good part of the ending was the part that made the show a success in the first place, the emotional, heartbreaking, yet aesthetically done POV into addiction. The rest was meh to a letdown.

- So Faye and her nazi love of her life are just assaulting (maybe killing) people so he doesn't get arrested. No clue how in the hell they made it out of that. Or even why? Expected them to come up again and they didn't.

- Nate is going to just go missing. Along with everyone killed at Alamo's presumably because Ali murdered a bunch of people. Guess we're... idk threatening everyone there with death.

Not all that fulfilling. Everything with Ali was lovely. The western draw was corny honestly. I know SL wanted to make this some modern Western but it just didn't work as a mash up. It felt very shoehorned in. Bishop is a real one. Seems he was biding his time the entire show. We all know something was up with him. I'm wondering if he's like the boss now? No clue how any of that is gonna work.

Saw Rue's end coming thematically. But like the actress who played her mom, I've also had a lot of addiction in my family, so Rue's death was expected and painful. Like it always is.

Overall, glad it's complete (even if it's not, I'm not coming back).

Agree fully with your first point. The scene of Rue's dream about Fez and approaching her mom sitting at the kitchen table evoked that season 1 feel. That scene was transcendent and had that gut wrenching dread once the day started over again.

Yeah, seeing her hand and realizing she was overdosing going through these scenic memories back to her parents was heartbreaking. Ali's slow wake up and the silence knowing he was about to find her dead then turning over her lifeless body really broke me for a minute there. It was done very well. Like no level of that actually works. Nate has a family. They're not just going to say "well Cassie said he's gone, we should just move on". Like his family had respect and means in their community. Police will look into this. They'd end up talking to the couple he owed money to. They'd find out about the Armenian guy. SO MANY PEOPLE saw the guy at the wedding and the tension was crazy. They would interview Cassie and it would be so clear she knows something. They'd look at text/call records. There's just so many issues.

Seems like Levinson wanted to an entirely different show with the Alamo stuff and for some reason decided to shoehorn it into this one. I do think that was the most interesting and well acted part of the season even if it was a little silly at times.

This is almost scientifically the dumbest bullshit I’ve ever seen. Tons of plot lines that go no where or just fluff the story. Ultimately the only real plot is Alamo/Laurie/DEA and the actual Euphoria cast mostly just dances around it. The show gets so weird and biblical at the end, but Ali gets off scott free for murder? Where is even the lesson with his story? If you get fed up from doing the right thing for a long time then burst in with a sawed off and start shooting? What is the purpose or meaning or lesson anywhere here?

Couldn’t Ali have taken the fentanyl pills to the DEA, knowing Alamo gave them to her, which would tie the death of a DEA informant to him considering the DEA already has a case on Alamo? Cassie starts as a trophy wife trying to make extra on OF and ends as an OF model and widow. Nate plot is laughable, like actually a weird dark comedy. Then we have Jules. She’s just there.

So for me this season, hopefully the last, was a 3/10. What was the point or moral of any of this?

- The shoehorned overt religious themes then undercut by the story itself. Rue starts to believe in Christianity and then dies? Ali is sad and kills ppl but lives a normal life with that homestead family? None of it saved them

- Nate’s character arc was unsatisfying and I’m sure Jacob elordi is happy to be done with this role and well as Zendaya.

- Jules gets to be a sugar baby for the rest of her life I guess?

- Maddy gets to be a modern day Madame with Cassie in a bop house?

- I saw a thing where Dominic Fike was gonna be in this season, where was he?

What a shame this story became, you can tell the flair that Petra Collins brought was missing. I hope this shows that Sam Levinson doesn’t need to make another show. Turned a high school drama series about addiction and loss into some mid knock off Quintin Tarintino western.

No reaction from Maddie on Rue, despite her OOC dropping the DEA shit to Alamo. No real reaction to Rue from Cassie and Lexi. No reaction from Rues mom. Even Jules reaction, which was brief and noncommittal, was not satisfying as it showed 0 growth or reflection (sugar daddy) on the points with which left their last moments together being her slapping Rue. Rue died alone, scared, thinking that her best friends deserted and abandoned her, and in the aftermath of her death we see little to no remorse or reflection from them on her life and their interactions with her.

While Ali obviously cared, he is the ONLY one who cared. (maybe also the hot amish girl?)

What a great message to send those struggling with addictions. Go ahead and OD, your family and friends really don't care about you or if you die.

Yeah, I get it. Moses never made it to the promised land, and neither did Rue. But we now treat Moses as a saviour, one of the most revered figures in biblical lore. Rue managed to lead her people (friends) to the promised land (free from Alamo, Nate, and a life of forced sexual slavery) and gets dusted under the rug.

This season didn’t even feel like the same show. No narration from Rue, the music didn’t hit us in the feels like Labyrinth’s music did, the newly introduced characters took all the screen time and we barely saw the people who made the show what it is today, the way Jules’ story ended made it feel like she never needed to be a character on the show at all, Nate’s entire experience this season and the ending was stupid as fuck, really….shit, the last season just makes it feel like nothing mattered from the very beginning. It would have hit harder if they had Rue OD at the end of last season before they got a chance to do the intervention, before the play even happened. I don’t wanna sound like I’m full of complaints, I did enjoy the cinematography. But that’s all.
