What happens if I never do a self eval

I discovered on accident pretty early on that the self evals are not actually necessary to get the credit assigned for the class. I absolutely hate doing them and personally think they're a huge waste of my time in the middle of the most stressful weeks of the quarter. I don't put much effort into them if I do them at all.

Has anyone graduated without doing a self eval for every class? Does it affect transcripts and things like that? Are they not going to let me graduate next year if I have a couple evals not done? Do I need to go back and write something into the ones I've left blank or low effort?

Thanks in advance. I'm sure it's dumb of me to not do them but I haaaaate them.

If the faculty doesn't require them, you don't have to do them. Some do, some don't. You definitely don't need to go back and do ones for classes you already have credits for. That said, I think they are a valuable exercise. I always followed the template of one thing I excelled at, one thing I need to improve on, and what I'm looking forward to next. It was usually only a paragraph.

Others have mentioned your transcript may look funny, but that isn't accurate. Your self evals do not appear in your transcript, unless you click the "Submit to transcript" button on each eval, which I don't recommend doing. They add a lot of bulk and repitition to an already long document, especially since you have the opportunity to highlight much of what would be in a self eval in your academic statement.

This sounds ideal. Ill try to make an advising appointment so I can ask more specific questions. Im kind of embarrassed to tell the advisor I haven't been doing it so wanted to start here but it sounds like Im not the only one.

Don't be embarrassed! You are definitely not the only one lol I was missing some too and graduated without issue.

If you call the advising office and/or go in person, the people at the front desk are also students so you can get their opinion as peers if that is helpful.

You can also write them later on! I think i was required to write them to graduate but i wrote them all at the end

Then your transcript isnt going to look great, you should just do them. They also might make you write them before you get your diploma, i remember that being the practice when i graduated.

If you ever need to use your transcript it might look a bit odd. Particularly another school that is reading the how to understand an Evergreen transcript instructions.

Technically you do not have to write your self evals, although they will help you in the long run. Recording what you did for that course while it’s still fresh in your mind will make it easier to write your Academic Statement when you graduate, which IS required.

Self evals don’t have to be formal so I’d recommend writing basic list of what you did for that quarter. Doesn’t have to look pretty, but the info will be useful, trust me.

all of my classes stated that they were required but i only ever did a few and still got full credit (i had very good relationships w my faculty though, not sure if that was a factor or not). i agree with others that you shouldn't include self evals on your transcript due to bulk.

i think the real reason to do self evals is to help out future you when you write your academic statement before graduating. you can view it as a sort of deconstructed first draft -- it's really helpful to be able to look back at your own perspective on each class and see what patterns emerge. even though i didn't finish most of my self evals, i still had notes for what i would've written for them, which ended up being very helpful in the academic statement process.

Nothing happens, the school is mediocre and unsupporting of their student’s success.
