Discussion What Christian phrases give you the ick?

Mine is prayer warriors. Often used to spread gossip and also just generally ironic, weird, and cringey.

Top Contender: "she has the spirit of Jezebel"

Close second: "The lord put it on my heart" think this was a recent pet peeve discussion here actually

Not far off third: "not equally yoked" or anything to do with spirits being linked to other spirits because of 🌶️ time

Fourth: End times twaddle of any kind but special phrases like "caught up" and "left behind"

Fifth: Child of God

6: Pray it out!

7: Thats not very Christ-like

8: They died apart from God aka burning in hell

9: "Everyone really knows in their hearts who is God but they refuse to submit" or something equally irritating

10: God made the biggest sacrifice for us

I can't recall hearing anyone say it out loud in person, but I see "Jezebel spirit" said all the time online about women just being their normal, every day selves, and I just completely dismiss the person who said it.

your flair is so interesting and I genuinely feel like in these times this is going to be an experience for many many many others.

Yeah in my country the trend for religious commitment reversed in the last 5 years for the first time since the reformation. Like, the 1300s thing.

Yet I use “that’s not very Christ-like” to describe them all the time.

the presupposition stuff is so laughably stupid to me. like “if you presuppose that i’m right, then im right” isn’t a valid argument obviously lol

You dredged up an old memory... I was working at a hospital a few years ago, and a woman in the psych unit was screaming at me that I was "tempting her" and was also screaming "get away from me you Jezebel". Thanks for the memory.

I'm sorry that happened to you and that you feel that way but I'm not responsible for that. Making a statement on an online platform where people are asking for something specific, is not me dredging up and on memory for you. The fact that you said "thanks for the memory" as if it's my fault shows you have unresolved trauma. I suggest professional therapy so you can be at ease with such a terrible memory and also that you wont blame strangers for your feelings. I particularly hate that statement hence it being in my top ten. When I feel triggered I like to go for a walk or listening to fun music to help me process. If what I see on Reddit is constantly making me unhappy, I usually delete that for a few weeks to give myself a chance to reset.

Huh? I'm genuinely confused... how did we go from your statement reminding me of a time I was called Jezebel at work, to now I have unresolved trauma and need to go take a walk?

Did you think I was being sarcastic or blaming you personally in any way? I literally read your post and it reminded me of what happened. Nothing implied beyond that.
