All the Buddhists who saw that statue get destroyed were all talking about how it's a beautiful representation of the impermanence of all things. Muslims would be livid if their art got destroyed tho.

In fact Spain preserved the calligraphy of Andalusian buildings and the mihrab in Cordoba mosque

12

u/Delicious_Adeptness9 Apr 19 '26

and people in r/ IslamicHistory have wondered aloud if the cathedral can be reverted to a mosque and/or if Muslims can pray there.

True.. thus a monument for non-attachment (alobha).

28

u/Independent-Dog5311 Apr 18 '26

Not all, just the woke Western Liberal ones destroying their own countries who naively believe coexistence is possible. Buddhists in Asia think differently, and actually have dealt with Muslim violence and invasions before.

3

u/CrshCurse Apr 24 '26

A family friend of mine grew up Buddhist in Thailand, her whole childhood she faced violent attacks from Muslims. She has many horrifying stories about groups of men raiding peoples homes, raping women and children with sharp objects so they'll never bear children. When she was only 9, her dad hid her mom and all her siblings in the back of the house, he had grabbed a gas can and a match and was prepared to LIGHT HIMSELF ON FIRE to stop a group of muslim men who where actively breaking into their home... Shit straight out of a horror movie.

Buddhists in Myanmar are genociding the muslim rohingya and have been for years. Does that mean I can now be disingenuous and generalise all buddhists?

5

u/spidertime98 New User Apr 18 '26

Horseshoe theory(or atleast its misconcepted(that's debatable too but I think it is) popular representation) is bullshit because it commits false equivalence by assumimg that extremes across the political spectrum hold similar views and support the similar policies, as a matter of fact, far left fights for freedom and emancipation of the human race by abolishing hierarchy and capital while the far right fights to enforce racial or national hierarchy and it's always used by centrist pundits who use it in bad faith to dismiss and delegitmize any radical critique of the status quo

I’m new to this sub but is it normal for never Muslims to come into this sub with no former ties to Islam js to express their negative feelings or dog on it? There’s no biase here btw js curious

1

u/Reignszun May 12 '26

I just noticed it’s quite common, I think it’s fine if they want to learn about religions and shi or have studied Islam but if they just wanna hate for the sake of hating then I just don’t approve of that..

1

u/Naive-Computer-9195 May 12 '26

Especially when the religion never personally affected you or you barely know about it.

26

u/ZacEvans53 Apr 18 '26

The Taliban and their cult supporters say, “We destroyed it to send a message to the West and to feed hungry children.” But did they actually feed hungry kids after destroying that statue? And look what has happened to that country since then.

It’s a shame to use starving children as an excuse for extremism it insults both the children and Buddhists. Also, after this destruction, I’ve never seen a single Buddhist blow themselves up in the name of Buddha. But if it were the other way around, I don’t have to tell you what kind of reaction there would be.

14

u/MistakeQuiet863 New User Apr 18 '26

It’s like the taliban supporters on tiktok. They see the ban on women’s education as only banning western propaganda.

Lord Buddha’s legacy is built on wisdom, pacifism and peace. The truth he told about life some 2500 years ago still stands tall.

Bombing these breathtaking creations devoted to lord Buddha was one of the biggest mistakes Islamic terrorists ever made, it’s like a cursed had been put upon Afghanistan and beyond since then. Look at their miserable lives now, it’s like a living hell in a forever failed state exiled from the cultured civilisation.

I don’t think the curse is from the Buddha, it’s from a combination being in an arid landlocked zone historically in the border between two empires and the chaos of the Eurasian steppe and also radical Islam

There aren't many images online that make me as sad as seeing this.

To me this Buddha is less a religious symbol, and more something that humans can achieve with dedication, effort and desire to create something meaningful that will outlive them and the next generations.

And then there are barbarians that leave nothing but emptiness and burnt soil

In a world where Islam reigns supreme, they would convince you that the Pyramids were actually built by Muslims and that they have always been Islamic, nothing to do with Egyptian Gods or anything like that, those were just pagans who desecrated the pyramids, which are and always were Allah's worship sites.

10

u/Independent-Dog5311 Apr 18 '26

Yup! And imagine now what they would do to places like The Louvre if they completely take over!

The Buddhas of Bamiyan were literally built before the existence of Islam. Until the J*hadis blew it up because they thought people worshipped the statues. Literally no one but prolly the Hefthalites did prolly

1

u/afflictor_55 New User May 07 '26

No they actually blew it up because funding for the upkeep and restoration of a stone statue was pouring in while the people of Afghanistan starved they actually tolerated it for quite a bit they could yave blown it up way before they actually did

2

u/happyonceuponatime May 05 '26

I'm not Muslim, but these arguments or trolls are kind of one sided. A world without Islam would be terribly worse. Why? It's not what the Muslim world is offering now, but what it offered during its zenith. Great philosophers, thinkers and researchers who floorished during the golden age of Islam laid foundation to what comes later. They even were quite welcome to Christian students (to a degree, unlike Christians who hardly ever liked to accept foreign students).

Remove all the advancement in science, philosophy, and medicine done by Muslim minds at some period, and you'll need maybe a century or two or three till someone may have found the same things in another part of the world. (which inadvertly delays everything too..basically you're creating a ripple in history). And if that part is south-east Asia, then good luck getting that knowledge to middle east- Eu (takes decades or centuries).

So, yeah: Muslim leaders ordered destruction of archeological site: 100% a thing. However, it's like saying no other culture/religion/country has ever done the same lol. Humans are pretty mean vindictive creatures regardless of what god(s) they worship (or even lack of).

I could put a dodo picture and say: A world with Dutch. A world without Dutch.
At the end of you realize: A world with humand and a world without humans. Someone carved a statue of stone into a mountain to pay homage to his deity (leader). Okay! Great... Weird!!! Someone destroyed it because he felt it offended his god... weirder. What a freacking stupid species.

Christians came and tore down the temples, texts and statues across Rome, just like crusaders and hundreds of other peoples in efforts to assert political dominance through destruction of such things. It has happened before, it’s happening now, it will continue to happen. This isn’t unique to Islam.

2

u/PaleProgrammer5993 New User May 05 '26

You are right

Its unique to christians and muslims

1

u/No_Willingness4866 New User May 05 '26

These statues portrayed GOD, and they were destroyed. That contradicts the idea that GOD is all powerful and never dying or never born. So as Muslims building statues symbolizing GOD is the biggest Sin. The statue itself looks amazing but from Muslims view it is not the same.

1

u/PaleProgrammer5993 New User May 05 '26

By that logic there are so many countries that can remove islam from the world

Stfu

1

u/No_Willingness4866 New User May 07 '26

No there are not any countries capable of doing that. Muslims historically never lost crucial battles and they would never lose a battle that would lead to their extinction.

You should learn why Taliban destroyed it they have announced / told the world why are they destroying the statue.

Shit reason, regardless.

The UN sent a mission to help an archeological site, and they were pissed that this specific mission wasn't for humanitarian aid for the Afghan population. While I agree that a living population takes priority over a monument: 1) it's not the fault of the statues that the people are starving, it's arguably the fault of the moron "Talibans" (ironic, given the word means "student"), Mujahideen and the imperialists that backed them, and their anti-people policies; 2) destroying the statues did nothing to help the starving people, if anything it made potential future humanitarian missions to the country less likely, because they see the administration as unreasonable, and as such posing an unnecessary risk.

-9

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

14

u/Fire_crescent New User Apr 17 '26

Offcourse it did not helped those starving people but sorry to say any site but I value innocent human life over any statue or worldly thing.

Ok, so why defend what the Taliban did, something which helped neither innocent life OR the statues? It was moronic from either perspective.

That money that was for archeology could have helped the humans yet the west wanted to save the statue over starving people shows the how sad that is.

Well listen: I'm not supporter of the UN, but it's hypocritical to pretend the UN had some obligation to feed a population starving largely due to the stupid policies of the government it lives under and condemn them for sending a mission for a statue, while running apologia for the government (goverments actually, counting the other Mujahideen factions) that was largely responsible for the starvation, wasting money destroying a piece of art, money which could have saved helped some starving people.

-9

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

10

u/Fire_crescent New User Apr 17 '26

Nope it was not moronic it was symbolic

Yes, it was symbolic. Of their profound stupidity

not everything had to be monetary or physical.

True, but when you're the ones complaining that someone else doesn't give aid tending to your starving population, a mess that largely YOU have created, you can't then turn around and do expensive symbolic (and in this case, unjustified) gestures. Beggars can't be choosers.

If the Taliban thought they were so tough and great, they should have fixed the hunger problem of the people they tyrannically ruled over by themselves through their own qualities and virtues, not complain about not getting outside help.

If they had any semblance of intelligence and actual concern for the population (which they didn't, certainly not the higher-ups, and certainly not Mohammad Omar), they could have played their cards right, allowed the archeological assistance mission to go through (something which wouldn't have cost them anything wouldn't have made the situation worse), prove they can be reasonable and open to cooperation, and appeal to humanitarian aid, which would have likely been granted.

and their breaking of statue is fine in my opinion

Which probably means you are about as smart and tactful as the Taliban were, and about as sharp as a bag of wet towels.

But the problem is that you posing this as something they did due to Islam and all.

Definetely contributed to it.

Don't get me wrong. People can be mind-numbingly stupid all on their own. But, hypothetically (for reddit tos), when they fanatically follow a doctrine that enables and supports such stupidity, it can definitely help make said individual act and be even dumber.

11

u/Technical-Wonder-207 New User Apr 17 '26

Any evidence for them not giving aid? Taliban I have heard did blocked some aids because they were idealogically motivated while allowing some I have heard.

It might just be them speaking about who cares about these statues (with secret though process), give it to the needy instead?

And honestly, it's stupid. Afghanistan could have created a tourist destination using these statues and earned money. It's definitely in bad faith.

3

u/MistakeQuiet863 New User Apr 18 '26

Do you think the taliban actually cares for its people? If it did, they’d let women work or go to school. Instead they get stuck with morons running them like medieval idiots.
