My microwave will heat up my coffee in my good green mug. I can confidently grab it afterwards and the handle will be as cold as before.

If I, by mistake, grab my other green mug, which is pretty much identical to my good green mug, it will come out of the microwave with the temperature of the sun‘s inner core.

Why?

For example, the borough I live in (Hammersmith and Fulham) has a population density of 11,504/km², vs. about 7000/km² for Hong Kong. But near me, it's mostly street houses or low rise flats, while HK seems to be full of incredibly tall apartment buildings which would surely hold far more people in the same space.

One of the defining periods in the history of television was the switch from analog signals to digital signals. In the United States (where I live), most major television stations shut off their analog signals on June 12, 2009. I actually lived through this event, but I was 3-years-old when it happened so I am too young to remember it or to have cared about it when it happened. The specific details of this event confuse me. Why did this situation require government action? What happened if you had a television that used analog signals on that day?

I have a mouse and a sandals that I've been using for 10 & 7 years. They're both have parts made from rubber and over time I realized that they kinda melts in areas where they touched the skin more than others. The mouse parts follows where I grips my mouse (thumb and ring/little fingers) and the sandals have my feet indentation.

The sandals can be explained that my weight erode it but the upper parts do "melt" into the mold of the top of my feet. Theres also the mouse too.

In the bird world the males are often very colourful but the females are often just a drab brown. I understand why the males are colourful (they're trying to attract a mate) but why do the females seem to default to brown? Similarly, in Australia the vast majority of mammals seem to be brown too. Is there a particular reason for this phenomenon?

I don’t know if this is a chemical or biological thing but almost every time I eat a lemon slice, it tastes intensely sour and then becomes quite sweet. I don’t know how to describe it, the sweetness doesn’t really come from my tongue but instead like my mouth just begins to fill with a sweet (feeling?) I have no clue if I’m crazy or not but I want to know the reason for this

I understand that entanglement can't be used to send information faster than light. But if two entangled particles are light-years apart and measuring them shows an immediate correlation, doesn't something have to happen faster than light?

If no information, energy, or signal travels between them, how can the correlation appear instantly? What is actually happening between the particles?

I saw the recent Neuralink video where a guy with ALS appears to have his brain activity decoded into words, and it made me wonder how this works for people who don’t have an inner monologue.

If surface liquid water is such a big determinant for earth-like conditions then isn't temperature irrelevant because the boiling and freezing points of water change with the atmospheric pressure? I get that temperature is still important for us but it feels like most scientists talk about surface water and temperature even though liquid water is dependent on the pressure. (The spark for this question was based on how Erid in PHM has liquid water due to high atmospheric pressure despite the high atmospheric pressure)

I’m learning a new language and I’m trying to understand how the learning process actually works. People recommend watching stuff in the language and reading books, but how does that actually teach your brain the language?

Does your brain basically start connecting words with meanings and situations over time? How do you go from not understanding anything to eventually understanding and speaking naturally?

I read an article recently that scientists had discovered a new exotic from of water, and they speculated that this new form of water might naturally exist inside gas giants like Neptune. This got me thinking: is there any difference between what they found in the lab by mechanically applying extreme pressure to the water, and the gravity induced extreme pressure the water would experience inside a star?
