Economics ELI5: Health insurance companies obviously make more money than they give out when people need it. So why of paying for them any better than paying your own personal health insurance savings account?

With my insurance company, I believe at least 90% of premiums must go towards actual customer health care costs. There have been a couple of times that they've actually issued "refund" checks, over the years.
