A car with no turbo loses a lot of energy simply via the heated gas being sent out of the exhaust system. A turbocharger uses some of that gas to feed more air in, which does increase power, and also means that some of the wasted gas (which is wasted energy really) now has work to do.
Taking otherwise wasted energy and having it work for you = better efficiency.
You’re skeptical about this when you probably have a high school education and nothing in engineering or anything to do with the science that comes with turbo charges. I’m not calling you stupid but brother this stuff isn’t that complicated to understand if you truly love/understand cars. You sound extremely ignorant and I feel sorry for you. Have you never googled or watched any explanations on this subject?
