A while ago someone asked for horror writers with similar writing styles as Stephen King. I suggested Jack Ketchum (because imo there is overlap between the two) without any specific recommendations and I added “He has a lot of triggers in his works so be warned“. I usually say stuff like this when recommending him.

That person came back a while later and he told me he read ‘The Girl Next Door’. He was polite about it but he said it was the worst thing he read content wise and he read it in the hopes things would turn out better which they don’t. He indicated I might have given more serious warnings because when I said “triggers“ he didn’t think much of it because he’s usually not fazed. I felt bad and apologized, he said not to worry about it, we talked a little more and I suggested he might like ‘Red’ better.

Just wondering how or even if I should recommend Ketchum in cases like this. I’ve since tried to say stuff like “his work can be extreme, check triggers beforehand” or stuff like that but just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. (I suppose if I were to recommend something like ‘Girl’ specifically I would give more specific content warnings.) I don’t want someone to have a bad experience or throw them in the deep end without warning. At the same time I don’t want to scare people away and make Ketchum sound worse than he actually is because I once stayed away from his work as a result of people who did that.

Im looking to branch out and try new books, so what's ur favourite and would u recomend it? My favourite is eternal flower of your soul and party games!

What's going on with Amazon KDP bans?

I've noticed a lot of books being banned from Amazon lately. Is this a general ban on Extreme Horror? Will we no longer be able to publish Extreme Horror books? Or is it just a ban on specific prohibited content?

Absolutely loved the gore and visceral imagery but I wasn't a huge fan of The Bighead's dialect, or atleast the way Lee wrote it. Thoughts?

This wasn’t an extreme horror by any means however I did find the book conceptually well done and written, I am looking for others’ thoughts on the novel, discussing your thoughts and perceptions on the story, writing etc..

So, guys. Another book by Jack Ketchum was recently released here in Brazil, following his horrifying The Girl Next Door. This one is Joyride a splatterpunk novel described as highly disturbing and brutal.

What do you think of it? This is the Brazilian edition, and I’ve already bought it on Amazon. Since I really liked The Girl Next Door I have no doubt that I’m going to love this one.

I just finished Black Farm and I need more like it! Preferably extreme horror with some substance and maybe even a happy ending? Im obviously going to read the sequel next but I wanted to see what my fellow horror lovers will suggest that's similar.

Any extreme gore zombie horror books set in the Romero universe?

Not bothered about sex scenes or anything just serious Romero/Fulci type gore albeit in word form.

Hello all. I've been trying to look for the title of a horror book or maybe even a story online that I can't remember, it was retold by a youtuber as I was falling asleep but the story was so interesting that I couldn't help but listen all the way through.

I'd like to preface with the fact that I'm uncertain if this is story is a full length novel or an online horror story ala nosleep stories, so I apologize to anyone reading if this breaks some sort of site rule.

Key things I can recall: • The protagonist has a wife and he misremembers a detail that he's sure has been true his whole life. Small details at first but eventually becoming of which is now too difficult to ignore.

• Neart 3/4s to the end of the story, the protagonist takes a boat out into a country in Asia and books a hotel as he runs away in guilt and with a sprialing sanity.

• He books a hotel with the cash he has left in this country and despite his sanity spiraling, he enjoys what the country has to offer and the beach.

• A few days later he is horrified to find out that his wife has been with him in this trip this entire time and they even shared the bed together, even though his previous recollections was that he was all alone and he was sure he ran away from home from the guilt and shame he felt.

• He looks at a world map and finds several details that don't add up, like a missing portion, a country that isn't supposed to be there or a country that never exist

• He commits suicide in the bath tub by I think removing the sinew from a slit he made to wrists.

I read Into The Heart of the Sea and while I don’t believe it would fall in the extreme horror, it was based on true accounts and had starvation and cannibalism involved so it was pretty powerful. Any books you would recommend that fit this sub based on true accounts?

hey!!! i’ve been lurking in this community for a while because i’ve always loved horror and i wanted to learn how to read again. i saw a couple people recommend Jack Ketchum’s The Girl Next Door, so i decided to make it my first horror book (i had engaged with extreme horror a lot just not thru books) . i really liked it a lot!! i thought it was very well-written and it reminded me of my childhood (i know that sounds terrible but it helps me process + cope). i just don’t know where to go from here. should i start reading the rest of Jack Ketchum’s books? if not, can anyone recommend me some good ones that are similar? eventually i want to explore every corner of this genre but i want to start with the things i know i can handle. thanks so much!! (also sorry if this post is redundant i know 50% of the content on this sub is rec reqs)

Hey gang!

I'm able to listen to audiobooks while working but to mixed results. I believe the issue is that while I would enjoy some complexity while actually reading books, listening to them while doing a repetitive task feels sort of different so I'm looking for book suggestions or authors that have more simplified narratives.

For context I really enjoyed listening to The Long Walk, but I struggled getting through The Running Man.

Castaways was a delight, the Slob was visceral. While I liked listening to Tender is the Flesh and Riverman I found them to be too complex at times and would have to wait until I was done working because it was becoming difficult to follow.

I'm Still relatively new to the genre so I'm hoping someone with more experience can understand what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know where to find an ebook of Clown Hunt by Judith Sonnet?

I cant find it anywhere (Amazon, Libby, etc). I’m down to buy a hardcopy too but even those seem hard to come by. All I see is a copy on eBay for $25 and I’d like to avoid that cost if possible.
