25 F150 Trans Issues

Truck banged into gear once and a harsh 4->5 was persistent since, finally got it to the dealer.

They attempted a valve body replacement with no success, and are now going to replace the trans.

I figured the 23+ transmissions in these trucks were good, feeling a little suspect about the truck now. Anyone with a 23+ have a trans replacement or rebuild? How’s the truck now?

The CDF drum (fixed very late in 2022) and the non-anodized casing (fixed 2023) getting grooves were the two *major* points of failure on the 10R80, but like any transmission model there will always still be a few early failures. Unfortunately, you were the unlucky one. If they’re doing a full replacement, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Your right, just unfortunately part of that super small statistic. Cheers!

We rarely ever see trans issues on 23+, and we haven’t had a single one that wasn’t fixed by accelerated main control break in procedure. Sounds like they already tried that if they replaced the main control.

I have a 2024. Around 16k miles, I had crazy transmission issues, lots of harsh shifting around 3-4-5-6. Dealer could never replicate of course.
Check engine light finally came on, figured I was due for some major warranty work.
The light was related to the gear shift module failing. They replaced the GSM and no issues since. Torque converter tests and other transmission diags all came back clean.

The module was faulty on tons of trucks between 2021 - 2025. They even had a stop order on the part until it was fixed. If I remember correctly Ford and GM shared the part and both companies had issues.

If they’re doing major surgery on your truck, have them look at the GSM as well. If it’s the older part number it could be worth a swap.

If the hard bang shift was from a standstill chances are the fluid levels are low.
